For more than 35 years, the people and businesses of our region have invested in the Arts Center.

We’re doing our best to give back. Here’s how:

CreativeMN.org recently conducted a comprehensive study of the creative sector’s impact on the state’s economy. South Central Minnesota fared well—the report says we’re “punching above our weight.”

The Arts Center of Saint Peter is proud to be part of that achievement! And we’re confident that we’ll continue to play a role in the region’s strength and growth.

We draw UP TO 80 PATRONS EACH MONTH for concerts spotlighting a variety of genres. Concerts are $10 at the door and include a 30-minute pre-show reception catered by Patrick’s on Third, with product provided by Morgan Creek Vineyards. The early hours (7:00-9:30 p.m.) encourage pre-event dinners and post-show gatherings at downtown establishments.

We’ve CHANGED OUR GALLERY HOURS to align more closely with the hours of local retailers.

FREE MONTHLY OPEN STUDIOS in the Clay Center and drop-in groups for artists and writers draw out-of-town visitors, many of whom spend time and money downtown.

Our gallery shop draws SHOPPERS WHO KNOW THEY CAN RELY ON US for locally made artisan goods that can’t be acquired anywhere else—pottery, leather, weavings, prints, jewelry and more.

Our major fundraising and outreach events are ALIGNED WITH CITY-WIDE HAPPENINGS. Souper Bowl takes place in conjunction with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Holiday Fare is locked into the Saturday of the deer hunting opener and we host popular arts activities at St. Peter’s Old Fash-ioned Fourth of July and Rock Bend Folk Festival. These alignments benefit the Arts Center and support the local economy by adding publicity and traffic.

From the Director

At the recent reception for Wood & Wool, wood and fiber artist Mark Traxler said this:

What is the appeal of hand-made things? My hunch is that textiles and wood art—with their tactile, visual and technical appeal—unlock an archetypal connection to the spirt and to joy. Whether we have made an object ourselves, or absorb it as observers, we benefit from its beauty. We recognize the effort reflected in creative objects. We see a form of inspired labor. We discover aspects and qualities we hadn’t seen before. And the Arts Center exists for this purpose, as a means of consciousness raising, where beauty strikes a chord with us, raising us up and serving a greater—creative—spirit.

He said it well. The Arts Center is a special place with an exciting purpose. Over past year, our staff, instructors and volunteers felt that, week after week. People walked in seeking inspiration and renewal. We did our best to give it to them via classes, performances, retreats, tours—sometimes just conversation about the work on the walls, or about the art they used to make and would love to get back into, someday.

It’s a joy and a privilege to manage that kind of resource. And thanks to a strong 2015, we look forward to offering the people of this region even richer and more plentiful ways to stay inspired, refreshed and renewed.

Ann Rosenquist FeeExecutive Director

From the President

We hear it all the time, from out-of-town visitors: “It’s rare for a community this size to have an arts center like this.” It’s true. And we know what makes the difference—it’s the support we’ve received for more than 35 years from the businesses and individuals of St. Peter and the surrounding area. We’re grateful to our community for investing in us, and we’re doing our best to give back. I’m proud to share this report on our programming and finances in 2015. And I’m proud to say the Arts Center is well on its way to becoming an even more prominent and vital source of inspiration and growth for the people, businesses and organizations of our region.

Minnesota Valley Action Council (MVAC) Family Investment Program/Diversionary Work Program Employment ServicesThrough MVAC, the Arts Center served as a 12-week job site for youth who assisted with clerical tasks, facility upkeep and outreach events.

Nicollet County Community Work Service Program & Saint Peter Volunteers in the Park ProgramIn partnership with Nicollet County, the Arts Center was a work site for youth assigned to community service. And in partnership with the City of Saint Peter, the Arts Center was a volunteer site for young people selected for the City’s summer VIP program. All participants had the chance to view the exhibitions and talk about their interest in the arts.

Third Floor Youth CenterBeginning in November, and continuing every week throughout the 2014-2015 school year, the Arts Center hosts free arts activities at North Intermediate School’s Third Floor Program. Activities are developed and facilitated by students majoring in art education at Minnesota State University, Mankato, primarily using materials donated to the Arts Center. Our involvement is made possible by funding from the Thalia & Larry Taylor Arts Scholarship fund.

Morgan Creek Vineyards & Patrick’s on ThirdMorgan Creek Vineyards and Patrick’s on Third provide catering services at all Arts Center live music events, readings, and evening exhibition receptions, creating a festive and welcoming environment.

This remarkable year was made possible by remarkable volunteers!Docents and special event volunteers continued to be the backbone of the Arts Center. More than 40 docents served more than 1,500 hours in 2015,

greeting guests and ensuring that the Arts Center is a welcoming place for all. Volunteers included retirees, high school and college students from Saint Peter and Mankato and professionals from throughout the region. Thank you, volunteers!

Work. Play. Both!Book a private event at the Arts Center.

Our classroom makes excellent meeting space for groups seeking a “non-office-like” environment. While we’ll certainly share our wi-fi password, you’re welcome to go technology-free and take advantage of the classroom’s ample paper, crayons, scissors, glue, etc. We’d be glad to facilitate a project, or you can simply spread out supplies and see what happens. Catering is available upon request. Classroom rental: $35/day.

We do portraits. Quick ones. Many of our member-artists enjoy speed-sketching and welcome opportunities to draw a variety of models in five-minute poses. The Arts Center will happily organize up to four speed-sketchers to attend your event, to sketch as many models as they can for up to two hours. Models may keep the portraits. Speed sketching fee: $100/hour, materials included.

We do parties. Parties in the Clay Studio include 90-120 minutes of studio time with an instructor who will guide participants through basic throwing techniques, resulting in 1-2 pieces of pottery per participant. Pieces will be ready for pickup by the host or assigned representative one week follow-ing the event. Flat fee: $100 (covers up to five participants (ages 8+) and all materials). Additional participants, up to a maximum of 10: $15/person.

We do retreats. Business and organizational retreats may include:A guided tour of the current exhibition.90-120 minutes of studio time with an instructor who will guide participants through basic throwing techniques, resulting in 1-2 pieces of pottery per participant (ready for pickup 2-4 weeks following the event).Up to two hours of meeting time in the Arts Center’s studio classroom, with access to coffee, tea and myriad art supplies!Organic meals catered by neighboring River Rock Coffee.Retreat costs begin at $135 for five participants, not including catering. Additional participants, up to a maximum of 10: $15/person.

We’ll come to you. Arts Center Executive Director Ann Rosenquist Fee and member-artists are available to provide on-site arts activities at meetings, retreats and office parties. None of our proj-ects require artistic skill or a specific outcome. Instead, we like to focus on the pleasure of the cre-ative process without worrying about the end result. That’s what makes our activities a refreshing break from work-as-usual! Coloring, collage, black-out poetry (think: Sharpie, magazine, choose the words you like and black out the rest) and crafts with torn-up t-shirts are popular favorites. On-site activity fee: $35/hour, materials included.

We sell art. Original artwork is always for sale at the Arts Center, thanks to year-round exhibitions by regional and national artists. Artists keep 70% of the proceeds; 30% benefits the Arts Center. We also welcome requests to find artwork and artists to meet specific needs. Got an office to decorate? Interested in custom pottery? Give us a call.

To inquire about a private arts event or purchase, contact Executive Director Ann Rosenquist Fee at [email protected], 507-351-6521.
