ARTARTISTIC ICING DESIGN! Do you have a sweet tooth? Create works of art using decorator’s icing and various tips and techniques to decorate cupcakes, cakes and cookies. You will decorate a cookie each day to take home and show off. Your work will also be featured (and eaten!) at the Friday Showcase reception.

CARTOONING! Explore methods of creating your own cartoon characters. You will learn to understand simple concepts from what makes a hero or a villain to what is funny or serious. At the end of the class you will have your own cast of characters for you to imagine your own story.

DRAWING! Drawing with pen and ink creates artistic confi dence as mark-making processes are explored. Stippling, cross hatching and sgraffi to will be used to create personal marks which distinguish differences among artist! This class focuses on mark-making to create value and defi ne form. A reverse monoprint will also be created by mark-making into an inked surface.

JAPANESE KITE MAKING! Create two to four kites in the rich tradition of Asian kite making using imagery based in Japanese folklore or unique personal designs. These artful fl ying forms in a variety of sizes will be assembled, painted and ready to launch!

JEWELRY AND ORNAMENT MAKING! Here’s your chance to create original pendants, buttons and ornaments using glass, clay, wood, metal, paper, wire and more. Learn about glass fusing, ceramic glaze and fi ring techniques and how to create custom cords for your wearable art!

LEATHER MASK MAKING! Participate in a magical masks experience. Learn to make creative, hand designed and painted leather masks including animal-based designs and wearable half-masks. Become a leather craftsman and stitch beads and feathers into your unique creations.

OIL PAINTING! By painting colorful transparent layers, you will create three-dimensional forms on two-dimensional surfaces. Vibrant oil color combines with a fast drying solution to produce striking images. You will add sheen with a varnish to seal the fi nished artwork!

TEXTILES! We will make art to wear, hang on the wall or stuff for a pillow using both ancient and fun new techniques to dye, paint, print and otherwise make art with cloth. Learn creative ways to customize fabric and even design your own. Tie-dye, Shibori and more.

TOTEM SCULPTURE! Totems tell stories. Build a found object totem sculpture and tell your own story in a two-to-three foot vertical sculpture. You will work with materials such as clay, leather, paper, plastic, wire, yarn, string, glue and your own special found objects. Get ready for totem-time at camp!

PAINTING WITH WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE! Pigment dances with water as you create in color! You will explore many experimental painting processes as a means of expression. You will use texture to generate organic form.

WILD AND WOOLLY! Learn how to create any creature you can imagine by using colored wool and a special barbed needle. Campers will make realistic or imaginative animal and character sculptures. No experience needed, just a little patience and a lot of imagination.

COMPUTER & VIDEO

VIDEO PRODUCTION/COMPUTER GRAPHICS 101! This day-long class will combine the Arts Adventurer’s two loves of Video Production and Computer Graphics. In the morning session you will build a visual storyline for a story created by the group. You will learn how to operate a video camera and editing software. In the afternoon, you will create your own version of computer graphics to go with the morning’s visual story. The group will create titles and credits for the video and will also utilize green screen techniques in fi nishing your group project. Make an awesome video with a group and have it shown on the big screen at the Friday Showcase.

DANCE AND DRAMAAUDITION LIKE A PRO! Auditioning for a part can be scary, but this class will give you the tricks and tips to nail the audition. Students even hold their own auditions!

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE? Sign up for SYTYCD if you want to learn to turn, leap, perform and choreograph! You can explore dance techniques and performance elements in either the beginning or the advanced contemporary dance class. No experience is required for the beginning class. To qualify for the advanced class, students must have completed at least one year of studio training. Dancers of all levels are welcome.

STAGE MAKE-UP! You will experience hands-on beginning theatrical make-up techniques. Each day will focus on a different aspect: basic application techniques and tools, old age, clown, monster, face appliances (noses, scars, crepe hair, etc.) Latex allergy alert: face appliances and make-up adhesives all contain latex.

THROUGH THE STAGE DOOR! Gain special access through the Stage Door! Enter a world of light, sound and stagecraft as we tour the technical side of the theatre world. Hands-on experiences will result in an all-youth stage crew for the Friday Showcase in the Kinzer Performing Arts Center.

MUSICDRUM CIRCLE! You will explore the drums and rhythms of Africa and learn how to play various drums and shakers common in African drum circles. In addition the class will explore how this music has been incorporated into American popular music from Ragtime to present day Rock and Roll. No previous drumming experience is required.

JAZZ IMPROVISATION! Do you love to make up the music as you go along? Do you want to know what notes will sound great with music you love to listen to and play? Using jazz improvisation principles, this course will teach you how to build a jazz solo, play in a jazz combo or play along with your favorite songs without needing everything to be written down. This course is designed for intermediate to advanced musicians of all instruments.

SOUND RECORDING AND MIXING! Record yourself and your friends, using computer software such as GarageBand. The class is a great introduction to the process of recording live music and mixing prerecorded sound.

VOCAL MUSIC EXPERIENCE! Come sing with us and prepare for a showcase performance with different styles of music: show choir, vocal jazz and traditional choral music! Performance techniques, choreography, scat singing and listening to professional artists will also be included in the week. Fun for everyone!
