“Both drawings and paintings compound the poetic sense that something lies behind what we are seeing, some thing intangible and distinctly unfriendly. Yet on the surface all is well. We are in the tropics, the plants and leaves are beautiful, we are in a kind of paradise - what can be wrong? This is how the best Art often functions, it demands that you the audience do some of the work. It evokes things that seem like things you already knew, but did not quite find the phrase or image for. (…)Fernandez’s work in all its forms as objects, paintings and drawings has a unity and conviction. It implications and meanings can be applied to a specific situation, or can be taken universally. That’s just one of it’s many strengths.”

Welcome to ARTROOMS2015

In 2015, London will be welcoming an innovative concept of art exhibition that offers independent artists the opportunity to exhibit their artworks in the intimate dimension of 76 luxury hotel rooms. On January, art buyers will have one more reason to show up in London, as two important events will dress the capital with contemporary art during the same week. One of these is the established London Art fair, one of the UK’s leading exhibitions of the sector. The other event is ARTROOMS2015 set for the 23rd – 26th of January, a new fair that will convert the entire first floor of the Level at Meliá White House Hotel into an exhibition space. According to its organisers – Le Dame Art Gallery, Triumph UK and GEM Creative – the new art fair has been conceived around the importance of the visitor’s experience. To assure an impeccable first edition, the artworks on show are being selected by a Committee. Among its members there are Roberta Cremoncini, Director at the Estorick Collection, Greta Scacchi, Ian Rosenfeld, Curator at Rosenfeld Porcini Gallery and Arturo Galansino, Exhibition Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts www.art-rooms.org For more information about ARTROOMS2015 please email to Lorenzo Stabile – Marketing and PR Manager – [email protected]  +44(0)744 530 0859

Renata Fernandez (Caracas, Venezuela) lives and works in London since 2003. Last year Fernandez had her first solo show on a museum (Museo Alejandro Otero, Caracas, Venezuela). The main feature of this show titled “TROPICO CAMUFLADO”, was a 2 by 16 meters long mural made of 14 individual large format charcoal drawings from the ATC series. As well as an intervention of the Museum’s façade, the largest public art work in recent years in Caracas, Venezuela. Most recently her work was shown at the iconic MINT Shop in South Kensington, during the London Design Week. Fernandez had solo shows in the UK, Spain and Venezuela, and her work features constantly in this city, as well as in France, Belgium, Spain and Venezuela. Her work is in several private collections in Venezuela, Spain, USA, UK, France, Germany and Belgium.    The works on show at ARTROOMS2015 are her most recent work, such as large charcoal drawings from the compelling ATC series, as well as small drawings that go beyond certain aspects already present on the large drawings that precede them: exploring and revealing to the viewer the intricate geometry of nature. These pieces make use of the extrapolation of the minimum of elements, the humblest of techniques: line making. Also present in ARTROOMS2015 are paintings that both accompany and precede the drawings: Silas and Wife series, year 2008. These paintings, with their limited palette, come from the time Fernandez was developing her first large format charcoal drawings. In her studio practice, different techniques sit alongside each other, feeding on each other’s findings and evolution. The first drawings drained the then jewel-like palette from her earlier paintings. Her paintings became exercises on texture as well as composition, allowing no more than three colours at one time. This influence also hovered over her sculptures: the pieces present at ARTROMS2015 became tri-dimensional drawings, elements of compositions draw on the floor, also painted with the black and white tones of her drawings.
