Alice McGuinness
I am entirely self-taught. I initially learned the basic methods for leaded windows and tiffany [copper foil]
glasssome twenty years ago and, with the purchase of a kiln in 2004, became totally immersed in learning all
I can about fused glass. Lead and copper foil techniques are pretty straight forward, you learn the basics and
perfect them. Kiln formed glass however is a whole different ball game with many different techniques that
can be used and combined to make up the final piece.

Statement
Anna Donovan is a visual artist whose mixed media practice includes a wide spectrum of disciplines, encompassing
sculpture, and wall mounted work. In her more recent work she plays with the human form both in terms of the
physical body and that of the phenomenon known as pareidolia.
To realise her ideas Anna enjoys exploiting the expressive nature and potential of using different materials together
such as clay, fabric, metal, found and autobiographical objects. This provides her with a way to manipulate textures
and form through layers, exploring different techniques and experimentation. Anna credits her time working as a
prop maker and scenic painter for many years as a huge influence on her artist practice.
Artist Biography
Anna graduated with a BA Hons in 3D Design (Ceramics) from what was then the University of Wales Institute,
Cardiff in 1995. After returning to Northern Ireland in 1999 she became the first dedicated Props Master and Scenic
Painter appointed by the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. Since 2010 Anna has returned to her studio practice joining the artist
community at Conway Mill in Belfast (known as Artists @ the Mill).
Recent exhibitions have included ‘#WORKINPROGRESS’ solo exhibition at Framewerk, Belfast; ‘ForM’ outdoor group exhibition at Bangor Castle Walled Gardens, Bangor, N. Catherine Quinn
Artist Statement/Biog
After studying Textile Design for Fashion at Manchester School of Art, Catherine Quinn moved to Japan to study
Japanese textile crafts. She became inspired by handcrafts and began studying indigo dyeing with an indigo master,
learning the traditional Japanese techniques of Shibori and Katazome. She is inspired by using techniques and
textiles that have a history and a strong connection to the past. Upon returning to Northern Ireland she wanted to
combine her love of Japanese and Irish textiles and set up Mottainai studio in 2014.
Mottainai is a creative craft studio making contemporary Irish linen homewares hand dyed using traditional Japanese techniques. Combining the minimalist aesthetic of Japanese design with enduring quality Irish linen we produce timeless unique designs for the home. Our range includes table runner, napkins, wall hangings and scarves. She promotes Japanese indigo dyeing by teaching workshops in her Belfast Studio.

Sally Young: Artist Statement
I am a painter and mixed media artist, with an interest in the human psyche and mental health and well being. As in life, my work starts off cheery and bright, but as time marches on is slowly weighed down with layer upon darker layer. Sometimes a flower struggles through, a few oddly arranged human bones, a heart. Human nature can flourish with only the slightest of encouragement.

Karen Daye-Hutchinson Website: www.karendaye-hutchinson.com
Since the early 1990’s, my work has reflected my interest in habitat, architecture and Literature. Using line and colour as a language to explore the perimeters of print making and painting with symbolism as an allegory. I deconstruct situations, fairy tales, nursery rhymes or poetry that are part of our childhood and adult culture. Scribbling/text give the viewer additional information to view or provoke the underlying subject or concept. Stories told that are either autobiographical or historical. Print making has become an important element of my practice over the past 10 years, in particular my exploration of a hybrid mixing of techniques to include Etching, Mono, Collograph and Lithography.
