ARTIST STATEMENT: The East Side Coffee Company is a website created for a more family-friendly

environment. It provides catering, free recipes, and also weekend classes to people

in the area. It has one location in Dallas, TX. Most of the inspiration for my website

came from The White Unicorn Agency and Latitude. White Unicorn Agency has

always had a more diverse, but modern feel when it comes to most of their

advertisements and clients, and that was a feeling that I wanted to present through

the website. However, Latitude has a bit more organization when it comes to their

layout, so I wanted a theme that could be repeated and still maintain visually

appealing when it comes to the users of my website.

The website was created using HTML5, CSS3, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,

and JavaScript. Photoshop was used in making sure my images would be

compatible within the website, whereas Illustrator was used when I had designs that

needed to be iconic and such, like my logo for the website. CSS3 was used for

making sure the website had the design that was needed for my audience, and

HTML5 was used for the overall layout. JavaScript was specifically used for the

Sliding Gallery on my Home and Menu Pages.

So this was something I added way in the beginning stages of the website and with

each new update, it felt as if it went more and more along with the idea I was

SLIDING GALLERY:

At first I had this huge boring, and bulky image within my website that needed to be

changed. So I added an automatic sliding gallery in the website so that it would give

it a little more life.

POLAROID IMAGE GALLERY:

This I was really excited and worked hard adding into the website. I saw the galleries

that many people tend to have in their websites and I found that stiff and boring if

nothing was happening with them, since I am just standing at an array of still

pictures. I literally looked through hours of code and ended up using this code to

add into my website. I tweaked it a little bit so the images would fit properly into my

website in a fashion that I liked.

SLIDING STICKY CONTACT FORM:

So this website needed some kind of contact form, so while I did add a catering

page, I also decides to add a stickily slide out contact form in case anything with my

actual contact form broke.

COLOR SCHEME:

This specific color scheme was chosen because I know that if used right, brown is a

very social, modern, and powerful color. The only color I rarely got to use was the

rain color, which was one I was actually excited to use. So instead of forcing the color

in, I added these blue watercolor floral images on pages that had too much empty

space, to add in so shades of that color.

This website was a lot more personal to me for many reason. Every time I take web

design classes, I basically end up re-teaching myself web design, and I wanted to

see how far I could push myself this time around. Also because I know there are

many place people cannot go because of how disruptive children can be

sometimes, and I feel that this is a quality that needs to be embraced rather than

chastised. There is also a hefty amount of people, around my age, who do not know

the basics of cooking. Many want classes and cannot take them because they either

don’t have time, or the money to do so.

I feel proud of where this website has gotten so far. I feel like as a designer it pushed

both my imagination and skills as a designer.
