Course Description: Students will develop the pre-employment and human relation skills necessary for job success, including how to identify career choices and employment opportunities; how to prepare a resume, job applications, cover and follow-up letters; and how to develop human relation skills. The student will select, prepare and be interviewed for jobs which match his/her skills identified through a self-assessment inventory. Instructional Methods: Lecture, case studies, exercises, discussion, blackboard response, audio/video aids. Goals & Objectives: Students shall be able to identify and demonstrate basic job etiquette skills. Students shall be able to identify the basic office skills currently used in industry, as well as identify whether they possess these skills, and how they can attain them. Students shall be able to successfully complete a job interview by using the following skills:
1. Making a good impression – through appearance, manners, punctuality 2. Demonstrating knowledge of the business 3. Communicating clearly their ability to meet the skills necessary for the job 4. Demonstrating their wants/needs 5. Demonstrating their desire to be hired in that specific position
Students shall be able to write a resume and cover letter that meet the basic standards of professional resumes and cover letters. Students shall demonstrate the ability to find jobs through a variety of means – on the internet, word of mouth, bulletin boards, etc.

Student Learning Objectives: Students should meet the above course goals to at least an 80% level of attainment when asked to perform those functions on demand to receive UAF credit. Pass/Fail: YFSD students must achieve a 70% or better to pass this class for YFSD. Course Policies:
