ARTICIPATION IN PYKA BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

Five students of APS Birpur participated in Pyka Boxing Championship held at Parade Ground, Dehradun on 23 Nov 2016. The Apsians performed well and brought laurels to the school. The medal tally is as follows:-

CHOOL QUIZ LEAGUE 2016

APS Birpur took part in School Quiz League -2016, India’s Fastest Growing School Quiz

Programme. In phase I, classroom round was held in which classes IX to XI participated and 40 students

qualified for phase II city round.

Phase II city round was organized at Hotel Solitaire in Dehradun where 2 students qualified for city

round finale.

NTERACTION WITH AUTHOR As a part to promote reading of program a special session was held where renowned author Dr

Aporva Kala introduced and emphasized the need to read good books alone, ‘as these are marry-a –

looks”, was how he put it .He agreed with the German philosopher, Schopenhauer that everyone should

read the following four books:-

(a) The Life and Opinion of Tristram Shandy- by Steve.

(b) Don Quixote- by Cervantes

(c) Julie-by J. J. Rousseau

(d) Mister Weimer-budding

The next session saw the would be: authors reading from Dr Aporva Kala’s book ‘Alchemist of the

East’ The author himself read the poems:-

(a) Daffodils- by William Wordswoth

(b) Spring- by T. Nash

The session ended with Dr Aporva Kala answering questions put forward by the students on the ‘Art of

Writing’ and ‘How to Read a Book?’

It was an interactive; fruitful discussion on the need of literature in particular and the arts in general.

UTREACH PROGRAMME: School runs a number of outreach programme in the

school to make its students sensitized towards the needs of the deprived and unprivileged and to

make them empathetic.

(a) APNA GHAR VISIT ON 26 NOV 2016: Under the outreach programme, class XI D of

visited APNA GHAR, a home for needy on 26th Nov 2016. They donated dry ration collected by the

students of the school. Students danced and sang with the children and women there. They rejoiced

and had a very good learning experience. Many children became emotional listening to the stories of

the deprived.

(b) UNAYYAN SHIKSHA KENDRA : On 19th Nov 2016, a group of students comprising of

Asawari, Rohini , Sumit, Raghunath, Sristi , Rhea , Riya , Sakshi, Abhishek & Rishabh of class XI

along with Mrs Manisha Dogra visited the Unnyan Shiksha Kendra as a collaborative project under

the design thinking model . Their motive was to help these children, who live in denied conditions

yet have a will to study and to learn. Our students went to each class to teach them basics of

English, Maths and Science and generally talked to them about their fears, insecure problems and

how we can help them, how they can be benefitted by them. This project aims to benefit both the

schools and we aim that apsians them learn humility from those students.

On 26 November, 2016 in continuation to the Edu-tech Project with Unnayan Shikha Kendra, the

students of APS Birpur along with Mrs Manisha Dogra went to teach the students. This time they

decided to teach them English. The whole process of planning things had been done by students

there and then. This helped our students to enhance their management skills. Our students thought

of teaching them English because the when last time they visited as the students there impressed

them they told us that they wanted to learn we got desire to learn English. Students made

presentations, designed games to combine learning and enjoyment and the students requested to

make frequent visits to their school.

NTER HOUSE PPT COMPETITON UNDER IT WEEK

On 28 Nov 2016 APS Birpur held on Inter House PPT Making Competition on the topic “Gender

Sensitization”. It was conducted by Manekshaw House. Students participated enthusiastically and

researched well to gather information on the said topic. It had two categories Senior IX-XI, Middle VI-VIII.

The students presented their PPT as a team. The purpose of this competition was to instill IT skills,

important of teamwork, research based approach communication skills in students along with uplifting their

moral.

NDIAN WOMEN OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION

APS BIRPUR participated in Taekwondo Championship held on 29 Nov 2016 at Gorkha Sudhar

Sabha, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun. Five students took part in the championship and bagged 4 Silver Medals.

OTIVATIONAL SESSION BY PRINCIPAL

CLASS IX STUDENTS

To motivate students and gear up for Term II of the session, the Principal Mrs. Bindu Sharma

addressed the students of class IX .She stressed upon the importance of discipline and regular and

continuous studies with fixed schedules and strict following of timelines. The other points discussed in the

session were recapitalizing the passing criteria as per CBSE norms. It was emphasized that the full

dedication and hard work are the key for the further improvement. It was suggested by the Principal to

make the best use of remedial classes being run in the school and to improve during the Pre-Summative &

SA-II.

To motivate students and gear them up for Term II of the session, the Principal Mrs. Bindu Sharma

addressed the students of class X as well. The major points discussed in the session were- analysis the SA

I result, take healthy diet for healthy days, Some guidance was also provided by the Principal to excel in SA

II and to understand their weakness and strength and regarding the choice of friends.

CLASS V STUDENT

A session of class V students taken by the Principal Mrs. Bindu Sharma. The main points discussed

were discipline, cleanliness, bullying and use of abusive language. Students interacted and discussed their

problems with the Principal. Remedial measures were given to the students.

NTERNATIONAL AIDS DAY

“Run for health” was organized by Raina House to mark the International AIDS Day on 1st Dec

2016 in APS Birpur. The students of class XI enthusiastically took part in the run. Mrs Bindu Sharma,

Principal flagged off the rally. She motivated the cause of the run and also stressed upon the fact that they

need to be empathetic towards aids sufferers and should help the society to understand the myths

regarding AIDS.

PECIAL ASSEMBLY On 2nd Dec 2016 a special assembly was conducted by the students of Raina House related

to the theme of the school Gender Sensitization. A speech was delivered on the topic “Equality in

Gender Polarization” by students of class X. Being ‘ the Nutrition Week’ too a small poem on Nutrition was

delivered by a student of class VI. After this, a role play was performed based on Health and Nutrition

showing that “gender equality involves the condition conducive for both the genders. They should have

equal care, education and opportunities to take decisions. The students thus understood the importance of

nutrition irrespective of the gender.

LOGAN AND PAINTING COMPETITION APS Birpur student participated in “Slogan and Painting Competition” Organised by City

police to sensitize students towards Drugs 9 students participated in the competition on 01 Dec 2016. The competition was held at Police Line Race Course Dehradun. In the above competition 1500 students of 70 schools of Dehradun participated. APS, Birpur team was declared as the winner in this competition. They were given the prize for them achievement on 11th Dec 2016 by the Chief Minister Mr Harish Rawat of Uttrakahnd during cross country marathon race.

ARATHON-11 DEC 2016 Half marathon was scheduled at Police line Race Course on 11 Dec 2016. For this event

27 students of various classes of the school participated.

AVY DAY EXHIBITION & QUIZ COMPETITION. On invitation from National Hydrographic Office, Dehradun Apsian were invited to witness an

exhibition and participation in quiz, 24 students of this school from various classes ie from Cl VII to XII attended the same. Five schools (ie Bajaj Institute of Blind, KV Hathibarkala, Aryan School, DPS and APS, Birpur) participated in above quiz. Out of five schools, our school team comprising Rohini Sharma of XI-D and Ankit Yadav of XI-A bagged 1st position in this quiz. Needles to mention we were 2nd last year.

OSTER MAKING COMPETITION To enhance the creativity and create awareness on the topic “Gender Sensitization”, a

poster making competition and collage making competition was held on 5th Dec 2016 Inter house.

The students of class VI-VIII participated in collage making showing their innovative ideas. The students of

class IX-XI took part in poster making actively with great zeal and enthusiasm. Thimayya House stood first

in ‘Poster Making and Collage Making’.

NTER HOUSE NEWS READING & ADVERTISEMENT

COMPETITION An Inter house competition was conducted by Thimaya house at the Mini Stadium on 19th

December 2016.The competition was divided into two categories:-

Category I for juniors i.e. class VI (Adevrtisment enactment) and Category II for seniors i.e., class IX (News

Reading) each house did in its best to bring laurels to their House. The two judges appreciated their

performance and no doubt had a tough job to decide the winners. The advertisement topics were given on

the spot. In News Reading competition (IX-XI) Raina House stood first, In Advertisement enactment (VI-VII)

Vaidya House stood first.

NTER HOUSE KHO-KHO & BADMINTON COMPETITION

These competitions were divided into categories: Junior (VI- VIII) & Senior ( IX-XII) . Venue for badminton

competition was Mini Stadium & Football ground for KHO-KHO. Ms Suman & Mrs Durga guided the

participants and judged as well.

On 20th December all the junior players of all the house played for semi finals. On 21st December all the

senior participants of all the houses played for semi- finals. The final matches among the houses were

conducted on 22nd December.

HRISTMAS CELEBRATION

Christmas celebration was organized by the Thimaya house on 24th December ,2016 at Assembly

ground. Students of all wing witnessed the show along with their teachers. Sakshi Srivastav (XI-B|) began

the programme with speech. Carols were presented by primary sectionstudents. Master & Miss

Communication title were given to the students by Mrs Archana singh Chhetri (Senior Co- ordinator).

Results of inter house activities of primary wings were announced by Mrs .Reeta and at the last but not

least entry of APS SANTA (Mr .Anuj Lakhani) in the campus on his bike spread joy, laugh and curiosity

among students.Gift and cake were distributed to all the students.

COMPETITION On Dec 16, 2016 Inter Class Santa Making /New Year Card Making Competition was held in

Primary wing to enable the little hands come up with their superb creativity. All the children participated with

COMPETITION

On Dec 22, 2016 Interhouse Christmas Carol /Patriotic song competition was held in Primary

Section. Each house showed their mastery over voice modulation, rhythm and other important aspects of

singing. All the students were eager to emerge as victorious. The competition was divided into two

categories-

N EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO POST OFFICE AND

LALGATE

On 17 Dec, 2016, Children of Primary Section (Class IV and V) were taken to Post

Office and Lalgate respectively. The children of Class IV visited Post Office, a customer service

facility forming part of a national postal system and offers mail-related services such as

acceptance of letters and parcels etc. The children of Class V visited Lalgate War Memorial. The

children had very enjoyable time. It was certainly an informative experience for the students.
