Gonzo Moose TheatreTHE THING THAT CAME FROM OVER THERELundThe critically acclaimed trio are back in another rip-roaring comedy adventure. inspired by the Horror movies of the 1950’s, The Thing That Came From Over There is a fast-paced rollicking ride, mixing paranoia, suspense and hilariously gruesome deaths. It’s 1912, and as Scott and Amundsen begin their race across Antarctica, the hapless explorer, Captain Reginald Cranston Scot-t-t, has accidentally landed on the wrong side of the continent. As Cranston and his motley band set up base camp, a meteor crashes nearby. Deciding to investigate, they set out towards the crash site – unaware of the danger that awaits not just them, but the whole of planet Earth. What ancient evil lurks inside the crater? What is the dark secret of the slimy fungus? And what is the horrifying fate of those who encounter the parasitic space worms? Join 3 daring actors as they play over 15 roles in 90 minutes of shocks, spine tingling silliness, and blood curdling terror.

With comedy and thrills galore, the show features visual gags, verbal wit, giant puppetry, and even a little bit of live music.

Since exploding onto the scene in 2000, Gonzo Moose has become renowned for its accessible brand of stage comedy which combines improvisation, music, physical theatre and clowning. The company was founded by Artistic Director Mark Dawson with a strong focus on visually exciting stage comedy. Gonzo Moose use a range of techniques to keep its work at the cutting-edge of physical comedy and improvisational performance.

ShooShoo Baby THE GREAT CABARET SAFARIBeverley • Bishop BurtonJoin the “effortlessly funny” musical double act and their pianist as they embark on their Great Cabaret Safari. Indulge yourselves in some watertight close harmony singing of much-loved songs from composers as diverse as Verdi, The Proclaimers, Cole Porter & Queen. You can also expect to hear some of ShooShooBaby’s acclaimed, original “witty, razor-sharp songwriting” (The Stage). Their shows are funny, accessible, energetic, colourful, be-sequinned and camp (don’t take our word for it, read the reviews on their website).

ShooShoo Baby have earned a reputation for the quality of their singing and musicianship and have been appreciated by audiences internationally. They have sung on ice, jumped out of cakes and performed on

stilts. They have sung in theatres, concert halls, spiegeltents, cruise ships, yachts and in a front room in Enfield (once!). They have serenaded royalty, oligarchs, pop stars and lots of very nice normal people.

Target Audience: Adults and children 9+ with an interest in jazz, musical theatre (no bad language)

Tayo AlukoCALL MR ROBESON — A LIFE, WITH SONGSSwanland • North Dalton

Paul Robeson, was a world-famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner. When he gots too radical and outspoken for the establishment’s liking, he was branded a traitor to his country, was harassed, and denied opportunities to perform or travel. This is a roller-coaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable life and highlights how his pioneering and heroic political activism led many to describe him as the forerunner of the civil rights movement. It features some famous songs (including a dramatic rendition of Ol’ Man River), speeches, and a spectacularly defiant testimony to the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee.

One of the 20th Century’s most impressive but overlooked figures is revived in this powerful, compelling tour-de-force performance, performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall in February 2012. Features Ol’ Man River and other famous songs, much fiery oratory, and a defiant testimony to the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Target Audience: Adults and children 12+

Birkett & FiskTHE MUSIC OF VENUTI AND LANGSwanland • Bishop BurtonThe names of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli are familiar to many as pioneers of string based jazz. Less universally known are the names Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang, the Italian-American duo who played hot violin and guitar jazz in the 1920s and 30s until cut short by Lang’s untimely death in 1933. Joe Venuti has been referred to as ‘the father of jazz violin’ and was a leader in the development of jazz violin techniques and style, while his musical partner Eddie Lang is widely regarded as the first jazz guitar virtuoso.

Bringing together their shared knowledge and love of early jazz styles, Emma Fisk and James Birkett present an entertaining, virtuosic and informative programme of music inspired by the first great jazz violin and guitar partnership. A typical performance includes compositions by Venuti/Lang such as Cheese & Crackers, Sunshine and Black and Blue Bottom; jazz standards of the 20s and 30s; and specially composed originals that explore the duo’s soundworld. The music is interpersed with musical and biographical snippets that give audiences an insight into the lives and music of these two astonishing musicians.

Emma Fisk attracted critical acclaim for her performances of Venuti’s repertoire at UK jazz festivals and featured in the musical role of Joe Venuti with The Jazz Repertory Company at Cadogan Hall in the 2015 London Jazz Festival. James has been performing Lang’s repertoire since the late 70s and his transcriptions of Lang’s solo guitar pieces are published by IMP. Now hear the duo’s repertoire of Lang and Venuti in concert in the original duo setting.

Target audience: Any age who enjoy live music!
