Principle 1.2: Teachers treat their students with courtesy and dignity

7.2 Comply with legislative, administrative and organisational requirements

An understanding of the relevant legislative policies and processes required for teachers according to school stage is demonstrated. This is achieved through ensuring children's health and safety through knowledge developed and implementation of 'duty of care'. I stick to the 'duty of care' in the way I respect and treat students in my care.

7.3 Engage with the parents/carers

As a teacher I recognise that families are the child first educator and “one of the most influential factors on children’s learning and development”. The research also deepens my understanding on the affect of family involvement on children academic and social outcomes.

This demonstrates my understanding on strategies to involving family in their child’s education especially immigrant families whom found language as a barrier that disengage them from school. Strategies to improve the communication between families and teachers in order to increase family involvement in school activities include:

- Seeking interpreter service - Bilingual hotline/ bilingual phone tree- Written communications like excursion forms or newsletters should be translate in different

languages

7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

This is another area I would like to develop more as I have starting to establish my own little professional teaching network (friends who are now graduated teachers, some associate teachers from last placements and some teachers at the university). However, I would like to be more involve and engage with the broader community as well as joining some teaching community network associations to enhance my teaching practice.
