HOMELESSNESSRELIEF ORGS YOUNEED 2 KNOWABOUT

Each year, Covenant House Florida reacheshundreds of kids in Fort Lauderdale and Orlandovia street outreach, crisis shelters, transitionalhousing projects, and aftercare, making us one ofthe largest private agencies serving runaway andhomeless youth in the state of Florida.

The demand for emergency shelter currently ex-ceeds our financial capacity, and we have waitinglists in both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. We askall referral sources, e.g. law enforcement person-nel, social service representatives, pastors, teach-ers, and guidance counselors, as well as youthand parents seeking help to call ahead to deter-mine if a bed is available.

In Fort Lauderdale, call 954-561-5559.In Orlando, call 407-482-0404.

Covenant House Florida relies primarily on part-nership from over 40,000 individuals from through-out Florida to reach out and respond to troubledyouth. You can help.

Contribute financially — every dollar makes a dif-ference.Donate essentials, especially hygiene supplies, baby items, and clothing — most of our kids wearadult sizes, and they need casual items like jeansand sneakers plus business attire for job inter-views and work.Volunteer — opportunities are available in bothprogram and support areas.

Here is a cool idea. Donte’K Haye of Kennesaw State (GA) de-signed a template for us to use for homeless awareness. Thattemplate is on the following page. The idea is to print it out, col-or it and make it your own. You can sell it to raise funds for ei-ther Art4TheHomeless or choose another homeless relieforganization in your area. The only cost is really printing it outand the cost of makers which you can pick at any dollar store. It’s a fun project for the family and will help make a difference.

How you can help a homeless shelterwithout spending any of your money

Follow Leoni and the kids as they strive to overcomeone failed system after another. Watch as theystruggle to create a better life and free themselvesfrom their tragic pasts. Their powerful stories andunrelenting hope and determination to create abetter life shine through, in this true tale of love, friendship and the triumph of the human spirit.

“The very first momentwhen I realized whatabstract art is, was themoment when my fathercame to my exhibitionand he said: – Okay, butwhere are the pictures?”

Oliver Sin is an Eastern-European contemporarypainter. In his style aremixing Neo-expressionism, Street Art,Dadaism, Conceptual andPolitical Art together withscience, as spices in atasty French soup. Hesays that his only need isto have enough paint. Ifhe doesn’t have enoughcanvas, then he used topaint his scientificformulas on guitars, girlfriend’s shoes etc. Justthe lazy people needinspiration.

“My first memory withvisual arts is from 1988,when I was about 3 yearsold and everybody in myfamily started to talkabout my sister’s talent indrawing. I wasn’ttalented, but I have neverbelieved that talent exits,so I started to paint. But Ihad to experience manythings in my life to realizethat I instinctivelygravitate towards the arts.It is a great fortune thatI’m loving it. I always tryto live my life as honestas I can and I try to paintas less conscious as Ican. I didn’t choose thismethod, but that’s theonly way I can work.

Hopefully it will bringsome development.

Everybody has a uniqueperspective to sense andcommunicate. Mine ismostly comes from mymusical heritage. It’s likeimprovising in music, science and futurologyare all parts of my style.Making art is the same asspeaking, just usingcolors and shapesinstead of sounds.Creating art is natural, ifyou practice it enough. The most themes I useon my works come to mymind subconsciously. When I start to paint thepainting simply becomesa print of mysubconscious beliefs, maybe political beliefs.

I wouldn’t say that I’minvestigating science andfuture, I am just notinterested in investigatingpast and history. One daymaybe I will be the nextNostradamus.

Science and art searchthe answer to the samequestion. That answerexcites me.”

Through all the rotting cardboardher hands sadly yet hopefully feel. She no longer thinks of happinessit came and went a long time ago.

Survival’s such a long, hard journeywhen your feet are so very sore. There is nothing in the bins todayas she turns, she sheds no tears.

She cried them all many years agoall that is left is hunger and fear.

One Black Eye Too Many

She put some old clothes into a bagThen she walked out the front door. She tip-toed along the garden path

Her face it still felt so very sore. This time she was actually doing it

She was leaving the Bastard for good. She was sick of all his promises

All his drunken lies were now no good. She’d put everything into that marriageShe wanted love but did not find any.So she left feeling weak and weary

After getting one black eye too many.

Welcome To My WorldUnexpected Appreciation

Art appreciation can be applied to alltypes of arts. Painting, drawing, photography, music and writing isgenerally found under this subject. There is one art form that isgenerally far from being on this list. Itis the art of tattooing.

I have spent most of my lifeprejudice towards tattooing. I couldnot understand how anyone wantedart they might regret later down theroad. The repeated needle stickingwas not appealing as well.

Last year I started watching a showabout a bunch of tattoo artists. Theircommon goal was to be the best intheir field. At first I watched for thehilarity of some of the participantsbut over time their work started tostand out. I watched as the peoplewith the best skills and work ethicprogressed towards the top. Thosewho had heart and passion for theirwork took the time to make sure theirwork was neat, the texturing wasawesome, the colors worked for thepiece and the person they wereworking on.

I soon decided to get my own tattoo.Something personal that fit my

personality and style was the onlyway I could do it. I researched andcompared tattoo shops in theShreveport/Bossier City, Louisianaarea. The shop that stood out to methe most was Sacred Temple. I hadnever heard of them but they had alot of great reviews for their customwork. When I went in for aconsultation they were happy to takemy original work and turn it into awork of art. The artist took his timewith the details of the work. The factthat he stated that he was proud ofthe works he's done had meconfidant that he would do a goodjob. When the work was done mytattoo looked awesome. Going to ashop that saw the body as a templemeant that they only wanted to putworks of art on you worthy of beingworn and shown.

My advice is to not look down on aform of art you're unfamiliar with.Make sure you study it before youcreate an opinion. Also, make sure ifyou're getting something permanentput on your body make sure it's awork of art that's tied to yourpassion, heart or soul.

The Gem Diva’s Guide To Starting

Your

Let’s Get

Stoned!

Page 17: Art4TH Webzine

Thank you for downloading my free gem and min-eral’s collection guide! I am the Gems and Miner-als Diva and I blog about various gems andminerals I come across, wire wrap, or am fasci-nated with. I am not a geologist but a wire artistwho makes jewelry. I first got into wire wrappingby wanting to create my own jewelry and once Iopened up to the energies of different gem-stones, I was amazed and am still learning moreabout myself everyday. You will be too, if you sochoose.

Crystals, gemstones, and minerals are the themagic of the Earth. For eons, humans have usedthem in many ways from healing to protection.Ancient apothecaries would combine herbal rem-edies with certain crystals to enhance the powerof their healings. Shamans would go on spiritualjourneys with grounding journey stones for pro-tections. Even the Bible talks about gems andcrystals. Crystal healing and therapy have beenaround for ages. Of course, you don’t have to be-lieve in that if you don’t want to. You could just bea collector or someone who wants to indulge in anew hobby. I will promise you this: once you startworking with crystals and begin to open yourmind, you will experience the magic of the Earth–you have to have faith.

In many religions, the writers of religious textstalks about God’s power and how He (Or Shedepending on which religion you may follow) usesthe power to heal and love. God has gifted all ofus with this energy and not just us–but it’s in ev-ery stone, breath, ounce of coffee, smile and ev-erything else around us. We refer to people whotap into this energy as “psychics” but in actuality,we all have these gifts. It is up to us to decidewhether or not we want to use it. If you do, pleaseuse it for the right purposes.

If you are a first time gem collector and want tostart your own collection, there are some thingsyou need to know. Some gems and minerals canbe toxic , and they all have different structures.

I recommend going into a gem shop and brows-ing around. Some gems are cheap and othersare expensive. They come in many different col-ors and each one is unique in it’w own way.

Go to the shop, pick up the stones and ‘feel’ it’senergy. Does the color speak to you? What is thetexture like? Is it rough, smooth? Is it cut and fac-eted or tumbled. Is it wire wrapped or soldered?

Earth Magic

Page 18: Art4TH Webzine

There are many shapes to crystals but they naturally occur in seven geometric forms: triangles, rectangles, hexagons, rhomboids, parallelograms, or trapeziums.

Many are fragile and some are even water soluble–meaning they will melt. If you are not displayingthem, the wrap them in a silk or velvet material for protection. Some crystals need energetic cleansing. All Quartz crystals are self-cleansing but some like Malachite absorb negative energy and can’t releaseit. Depending on the stone and whether or not it’s toxic or water soluble, usually running water is greatfor washing away dark or stagnant energy. For the others, I recommend smudging them with sagewhich clears out all negative energy.

Meditating with crystals is the best way to bond with it. All you have to do is hold your stone in yourhands and sit quietly with it. Focus on your breathing and breathe slow deep breaths. You can listento music, or soft, rhythmitic drumming and breathe to the beat of the drums–deep breath in, hold for abeat, slowly release, pause before the next in breath.

Page 19: Art4TH Webzine

Crystals are often categorized by their elements and what Chakras they work with. For those of youwho are not familiar with Chakras, I will explain. A Chakra is simply an energy portal in your body. Youhave seven along your physical body, one beneath your feet and three above your head. They are alldifferent colors. Your Earth Star Chakra is the one beneath your feet. Then you have your Root Chakrawhich is at the base of your spine. Your Sacral Chakra is just below your navel, your Solar PlexusChaktra is in the center of your body, then you have your Heart Chakra which is by your heart. Followedby it is your Higher Heart Chakra which is directly above your Heart Chakra. Then there’s your Throat,Third Eye (pineal gland) and Crown Chakras.

Crystals are often used to clear energy blockages within Chakras to help you live a better and morespiritual life. Each of your physical Chakras have a color and what is really cool is that they havematching colored gems to work with each chakra.

Red Stones: Base ChakraBrown Stones: Earth Star ChakraYellow Stones: Solar Plexus ChakraOrange Stones: Sacral ChakraGreen and Pink Stones: Heart ChakrasBlue/Indigo: Throat and Third Eye ChakrasViolet: Third Eye and Crown ChakrasClear/White: All Chakras

Some gemstones work with one or more or sometimes all Chakras.

Elements

Each Gem is given an element. There are five Elements. Usually, the color of the gem will give a goodhint to it’s element as well as the Chakras the gem works with.

Earth (Stones such as Jasper and Smoky Quartz)Fire (Heliodor, Citrine, Ruby)Water (Aquamarine, Emerald)Air: (Blue Calcite)Storm (Moldavite)

Super Seven and Cacoxenite

You will come across a few gemstones and minerals that have been trademarked and unfortunatley, there are those who will trademark a regular quartz and name it and hike up the price. Supers Seven, however, is not such a stone, in my opinion.

When I bought the above piece, it was a Super Seven. Now, due to Trademark laws, the person whotrademarked it only wants the cut and polished gems to be called Super Seven and the rough version iscalled Cacoxenite. However, Since I bought it as a Super Seven before the trademark of the gem wentinto effect, I am listing the properties of all the seven minerals.

Super Seven opens up all the senses and is considered an important stone for stimulating and develop-ing all types of psychic abilities, including telepathy, clairvoyance, clairaudience, channeling, telekenesisand more. It is called Super Seven because it’s composed of seven minerals:

Amethyst (see Amethyst)

Clear Quartz (See Clear Quartz)

Smoky Quartz (See Smoky Quartz)

Cacoxenite-facilitates spiritual awakening, promotes new ideas and understanding, It helps you to seethe positive, side of life.

Rutile (See Rutilated Quartz)

Lepidiocrocite-stimulates intellectual pursuites and helps promote grounding, centering, clear thoughts, expanding your knowledge.

Goethite-is hydrated iron oxide and opens communication. It amps up your psychic abilities and helpslessen the distractions while meditating.

Page 23: Art4TH Webzine

AmethystAmethyst is a powerful and protective stone. Itguards against psychic attack, transmuting theenergy into love and protecting the wearer fromall types of harm, including geopathic orelectromagnetic stress and ill wishes fromothers.

Amethyst relieves stress and strain, soothesirritability, balances mood swings, dispelsanger, rage, fear and anxiety. Alleviatessadness and grief, and dissolves negativity.Amethyst activates spiritual awareness, opensintuition and enhances psychic abilities.

It has strong healing and cleansing powers.Amethyst encourages sobriety, having asobering effect on overindulgence of alcohol, drugs or other addictions. It calms andstimulates the mind, helping you become morefocused, enhancing memory and improvingmotivation.

Amethyst is a great sleep aid because it re-lieves insomnia. Place under a pillow for a veryrestful sleep.

Apophyllite soothes the mind and reducesstress by releasing negative thought patterns. Itinstills divine and universal love on all levels.

Page 24: Art4TH Webzine

Moldavite

When you are buying Moldavite, I must warn you that there are a lot of fakes flooding the market. Thebest way to tell them apart besides a microscope is simply this: Experience the “Moldavite Flush” or awarming sensation. Real Moldavite will react with you. You will feel a buzz and intense heat–dependingon how open you are. I’ve seen people turn bright red and have experienced it myself. Different pieceshave different levels of energy–the more heavier in weight they are, the more intense they are (and thedarker they are)

Moldavite is a gem that came from the stars. It is extraterrestrial in origin and enhancesangelic/extraterrestrial communication via telepathy. It hit the earth around 6 million years ago with animpact so strong that it would have taking at least 6 times the amount of force of the atomic bombing ofHiroshima. The meteor that struck and left behind the Moldavite went through to the core of the earth, some scientists are still debating that fact.

Moldavite is the only gem/mineral that is known for curing homesickness. If you move a lot, or just lefthome for the first time, it’s a great companion to have but be warned, this gem will transform your life. Itwill flip you upside down and make you go, “Whoa!” if you are not grounded. Grab a rose quartz to gen-tly ground you.

Some people actually break out when handling Moldavite, so be very careful when handling this gem. Ifyou purchase, always do it from a reputable dealer. Several ways to spot a fake are:

Do they have seams? Real Moldavites do not have straight lines running through them. Do they have texture–real Moldavites have texture and do not feel like plastic. Many counterfeiters incorporate fakes into wire wrapped jewelry. As a wire artist myself, I only

purchase my Moldavites either from Crystal Blue (Atlanta, GA) or Power of the Rainbow (DFW,TX) and both get theirs straight from the source. Clear as glass–Moldavites are not clear unless you hold them up to the light. Only then are they

transparent and you can see on the inside the textures. Price. Currently, Moldavites are $25 a gram and will be going up. Unless you know the person

selling the gem, I wouldn’t buy. I have one listed for sale just barely over that price but I man-aged to grab that Moldavite from my source just before the price went up.

If you wish to have a wire wrapped Moldavite, it is best to purchase the stone and have the artist wrapon commission.

Smokey Quartz dissolves cramps, strengthensthe back and fortifies the nerves. Along withthe healing properties of Quartz, which is themaster healer, Smoky Quartz also relieves painand soothes away depressions.

AgateAgate balances the physical body and harmonizes itwith the mind and spirit. It stabilizes the aura and notonly transform negativity, but eliminates it. It’s your allin one energy recycling center.

If you have issues with a close friend or familymember, meditating with Heliodor will help youunderstand the situation better. Hold it or wear itwhile you are around this person but be carefulbecause it will also, as stated above, help youempathize with them. You don’t want to cordthem–cording is simply attaching an ethric cord(unintentionally or intentionally) to another per-son’s chakras.

If you have corded with them, use Red Jasperand Quartz to gently release the cords andground yourself. Black Tourmaline will helpshield you from cording.

Herkimer DiamondHerkimer Diamonds are a unique type of Quartz. They are found in the Herkimer mines up in NewYork and like Diamonds, nothing can scratchtheir surface. They are always double terminat-ed–meaning that they have two points.

Herkimers are great for the ascension processand will take you to your highes spiritual vibra-tion possible while still being in your body. Beprepared for a rush. They are great for astraltravel will link you quickly–sometimes too quick-ly–to the astral plane.

Like all Quartz, these are are powerful amplifiersand self cleansing. They will super charge anystone/atmosphere around them.

Herkimers will open up all of your chakras andwill stimiluate and open you to psychic experi-ences if you meditate with them. Again, ground-ing is important so I advise to use a SmokyQuartz or Black Tourmaline to keep you ground-ed.
