What is the Service?

Art Shop Direct provides a professional, quick and convenient after sales service which will allow you to hang you painting directly on the wall as soon as you receive it in the post. We’re offering this service to our customers only at a fraction of the cost you would have to pay at your local art shop.

1 – Your un-stretched painting

The art work is painted with oil paints on canvas. In order to hang it on the wall you will need to get it professionally stretched onto a wooden frame. This is a service Art Shop Direct only provides to its customers and so we can provide you with this service at a fraction of the cost a gallery would charge.

2 – Constructing the stretcher bars

First of all, the correct sized stretcher bars for the painting are laid out on a flat surface and the corners are gently pushed together. At this point they are gently tapped together at right angles (90 degrees). A set square or square is used to get the perfect corner. Once we’re confident that each corner is at a right angle the two pieces are joined together with a staple gun. Two staples in each corner hold it in place. 1

3 – Aligning your painting

Your painting is laid out face down on a clean surface and the wooden frame is placed over it – staple side up. An equal distance around the edges is left and the sides of the canvas are gently folded over the edge of the wooden frame.

4 – Pulling and stapling the canvas over the frame

The painting is lined up so the horizon is horizontal. The straight lines on the picture are parallel to the edge of the painting. When it’s in position the stable gun is used to staple the canvas to the top edge of the frame.

The canvas is pulled tightly and staples are gunned into the opposite. This procedure is repeated with the other two sides making sure the canvas is pulled tight over the stretcher bars.

5 – Ready to hang

At the corners, the edges of the canvas are folded neatly and stapled on top of the other. Keys are inserted into the corners of the wooden frame to finish make the canvas tight. Your painting will be sent to you in a safe and secure parcel. All you have to do is open and it’s ready to hang up straight away!

All the best, Richard
