Realism• After Romanticism• People realized the problems of
society were not going away, so they decided to face them head on
• Show the real problems of society and offer solutions
• Art reflecting the poor, slaves, problems in society, harsh life in cities
Impressionism• Took place in response to the invention
of the camera• Artists were seen as not needed when
the camera was invented• In response, artists created a new
artistic style to appeal to those who loved art
• This art was intended to be…– What you feel– Unrealistic– Portray the first fleeting glimpse that the
eye catches
Assignment• Make your own art work!
– The art work must represent one of the art movements previously discussed.
– You may write a poem, a short story, or draw a picture.
– The only requirement is that I must be able to look at your art work and automatically tell what movement is represents.
