ART INSPIRING ACTION is the social and cultural pro-gram of the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the United Nations. This includes the event” A Unique Ex-hibition of Young Art Students from El Salvador in New York.”

Forty five paintings by fifteen students from “Distrito Ita-lia School in Tonacatepeque,” are the window to see the spirit of the young Salvadoreans who deal with very difficult circumstances. These kids are very talented ones and they started to express themselves through art since their early years, under the guide of Mario Perez, the art teacher at the school. They create artworks al-most from nothing and become creatives because they want to express their feelings and their most deepest emotions. These children are capable to see beauty in the heart of poverty and danger.

ART INSPIRING ACTION program and this Unique Ex-hibition of Young Art Students from El Salvador in New York are possible by the fine support of Mr. Cal Dash; Mrs. Kaushalliya Siriwardana, President and Founder of Helping Hands Inc.; Mr. Rob Raylman, Executive Di-rector of Gift of Life International; Mrs. Emma Arauz, Director of International Affairs and the staff of FUDEM, Mrs. Bircan Unver of Light Millenium, and Goya Food Inc.

We want to express our most deep thanks also to Eli-zabeth de Martínez, Ruben and Emerson Martínez of Open and Design, José Guerrero of Radio Clasica and Krishna Manuel Elias of Arte y Fe Network.

And a very special gratefulness to all the people who make the difference between hopelessness and a bet-ter future for the children around the world.

Kaushaliya Siriwardana President and Founder of Helping Hands Inc.

In my capacity as Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations, I’ve been asked frequently what would be my most important task in this prestigious position? My answer is clear, I have to build brideges between what the Permanent Mission of El Salvador is doing with regards to the broader agenda of the United Nations and the Salvadoran people, in order to contribute to a better understanding of the international relations in the Twenty-First Century. In other words, to make come true the Preamble of the United Nations Charter ...”We the Peoples of the United Nations determined....” These sentences always caught my imagination because I felt deeply in my hearth that its meaning goes beyond a representation of any government and outreach the soul of the humanity.

Children from El Salvador in New York clearly reflects this dream. I believe in El Salvador as a middle income country, rich in human sustainable development. It’s true, maybe this is an aspiration for the time been but also it is a goal that can be achieved if we consciously works towards a “critical mass” for the good. This art exhibition comes from one of the most vulnerable group studing at “Centro Escolar Distrito Italia - Tonacatepeque, El Salvador” is more than a painting...it’s really “Art Inspiring Action”.

My deepest gratitude to all individuals, civil society organizations and United Nations Member States that have contributed to the sucess of this outstanding initiative.

Please join us in turning this vision into reality, as part of a small contribution for building a better country...our country...El Salvador.
