ART EXPLORERS IS A CAMP FOR 6-12 YEAR OLDS TO EXPLORE ART MUSEUMS AND TRY AWESOME

ART PROJECTS DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

Art Explorers is a holiday camp for children 6-12 run by artists, art historians and museum educators.

Each day we plan a different Art-venture to explore London's cultural scene. From galleries to museums, from artists studios to small Art venues, from famous artworks to handmade crafts by artisans.

AT ART EXPLORERS WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT ART!

We also make loads of amazing Art projects! Trying new techniques and materials that you don’t usually have at home or at school.

ABOUT THE CAMP

Museums are awesome spaces for children, you can learn a whole lot from their collections and have a great time exploring their galleries.

Art is a language you need to learn to understand, as you would do with any other language in the world. We try to teach Art in a child-friendly and engaging way, each day they get to live a different Art-venture .

At our camp you will learn how to have fun in a museum, how to play Art games in the galleries and find hidden artworks. You’ll become an expert in Art museums!

Camp starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm (or 5.30pm if you're staying for the extended camp) There’s also an early drop-off option starting at 8.30am (you’d need to book it in advance) There’s some free play in the morning and when everybody arrives, teachers run a short meeting to share the schedule of the day and some safety tips for the trip. Children can add ideas and suggest changes on the daily schedule.

Activities usually start at 10am, with a break for a snack, and continue until lunch time. You’ll have some free time after lunch as well to play or do crafts.

As each day is different we don’t have a tight schedule, we do little variations each day depending on the weather, type of activity, mood of the group and children’s suggestions.

Our small group of teachers is fun, engaging, playful and DBS checked. They love museums and spend time

with our art explorers, they love playing and doing crafts. Meet our

awesome team!

Teachers are here to help you have a great time at the camp. Go find them if you feel hungry, tired or lonely, if you want someone to push you on the swing or if you need a hand on an Art project. We want to ensure that each child feels comfortable and happy during their time with us.

But… not all the teachers are as you expect. Jose loves to tell silly stories and try to make you believe they are true, Leo loves to be pushed on the swing but doesn’t like pushing, Susana knows a lot of secrets about Art and loves playing hide and seek, Nathalia is super caring and warm and is the one you want to go if you hurt yourself in the playground. On the day you might also meet Maria, or Victor or Anita, all of them are great fun!

No need to say that this camp is for you to have fun and live awesome Art-ventures. The teachers will make sure you have a great day BUT (yes, BUT) we expect from you to:

• be an active part of the group

• help others (teachers and kids) and be friendly

• pay attention to the teacher’s instructions

• be curious, ask questions

• learn as much as you can

• be responsible and behave, specially during trips

• don’t be shy or afraid to try new things

• share your knowledge with others

• help to create a fun, relaxed and friendly atmosphere

• bullying or bad behaviour will not be tolerated

At 10.30am we take a healthy snack wherever we are at that time (sometimes base camp, sometimes the bus, sometimes a park, sometimes a museum) Lemon Art Lab provides this snack as well as another one at 4.15pm for the children staying at the extended camp. This snack is often vegetarian and we cater for allergies and other food options on demand.

We usually have lunch between 12.30 and 1.30pm

Most weeks we schedule a trip to an artist or artisan studio, they will show us around and tell us about their trade, their work and the materials they use and why.

We have already met ceramists, painters, sculptors, neon artists, glass blowing artists, tattoo artists, bookbinding artisans, woodworkers, print makers, performance artists…and many more!

Meeting point: at the church’s community hall on Lavender Grove

Parking available on the street for drop-off and pick-up. Bikes and scooters left on street at your own risk.

Remember that we're an Art camp so your kids most likely will get stained...at some point. We provide aprons and use washable paint trying to keep clothes clean but...we try not to put too many limits to creativity so we recommend to bring old clothes that can get dirty even the days we're on a trip. We encourage kids to explore and think out of the box, this means dirty clothes at the end of the day I'm afraid.

Don't forget that some days we're on the move and unless the weather is really bad we try to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. We walk, take public transport and move around quite a bit, so comfy shoes, light backpack and weather appropriate clothes are highly recommended.

Books or toys are welcome but we don’t recommend bringing them to the camp unless the child can really take care of it, as we move around quite a lot it’s very easy to loose things during the day. We have plenty of activities, toys and crafts to do during the day.
