The Edge Detecting Sensor is used for guiding vehicles along

an edge or the scanning of non-refl ector targets

q Edge detection of the EDS is based on the principle of a

distance measurement with an infrared beam (time of flight)

q The EDS is protected by a highly robust housing. It is possible

to deploy the sensor under severe environmental conditions,

e.g. rain, dirt, varying temperatures, shock, vibrations etc.

q EDS sensor is able to detect edges at both sides of the

machine within an operating range from 7 m to 40 m

and a horizontal orientation of ± 6.38° ±0.8°

q The inclination of the sensor (vertical orientation) is adjusted

automatically within a range of ± 3.5° ±0.5° to correct

unevenness of the area, where the edge is detected

as well as movements of the machine

q EDS will provide data to steer the machine automatically along

the next pass of crop between two opposite headland turns

q The area in a confi gured distance is scanned permanently from

left to right and vice versa with a scan rate of 1.98 Hz ± 0.2 Hz

This system measures distance, relative velocity and

provides three warning thresholds

q The rugged AKL 500 G3 sensor simultaneously

measures distance, relative velocity and the relative

acceleration of targets with or without a reflector

indoor and outdoor to different distances

q A special feature of the device is that data can be

transmitted along the infrared measurement beam

q When certain pre-defined risk parameters are

exceeded during a motion cycle, the AKL 500 G3

and other components activate the anti-collision

system in order to prevent an accident
