Bunnings BBQ

Our first Bunnings BBQ for the year raised over $1300 in profits to go towards school resources, such as the new laptops being introduced into the Computer Hub. It was wonderful to see parents and staff working together to support the school from early Saturday morning (15

th June) until late in

the day. It was also lovely to meet with many local community members who are past parents or students from ARPS whilst we were at Bunnings; such an interesting way to find out more about the history of the area and of the school. A huge thanks to the following members of our community who helped out during the day: Gordon Mathieson, Gary Peel, Jane Capon, Mel & Brett Towers, Lorraine Eade, Bronwyn Clarke, Glynn Ford, Mark Harding, Asanga , Adriana Costa. Thanks also to all the families who came down to the stall and supported the team by enjoying a well cooked sausage!

Mid-year reporting: On Friday 21

st June, students will be taking home a printed copy of their mid-year reports. All parents/carers

will also be able to access student reports via the Compass Portal. Our teaching staff have been very busy over the past month writing mid-year reports for each student. It’s an extremely busy time for teachers, the task taking around 40-50 hours. However, we know that this is an im-portant opportunity for parents to be updated on their child’s progress so it’s undertaken with a high degree of diligence. The reports will be ready for distribution on Friday, 21st June.

When you receive your child’s report, please remember that we have begun the process of writing reports in May. This is especially pertinent for parents of Foundation children, where learning outcomes begin the ‘Pre-Foundation’ phase of the Victorian Curriculum continuum. A Foundation child has been with us for 4 months, so unless we are totally satisfied they have made 6 months growth in their learning progression, we won’t move them up the graph. It doesn’t mean your child hasn’t made growth, it could be they might not have shown 6 months growth in the 4 months they have been with us. This is but one example why parents should take advantage of the parent teacher interviews on offer.

Spotlight on Teaching and Learning:

This week has been planning week for all Year levels. The changed timetable allows staff to meet for prolonged planning sessions to ensure the curriculum designed for Term 3 is target-ed, robust and engaging. Staff have also planned some wonderful learning experiences, in-cluding activities relating to ‘STEM week’; ‘STEM week’ will replace ‘Literacy and Numeracy Week’ in term 3. However, we still will incorporate our Book Character parade, Maths ‘Step Back’ competition and Spelling Bee.

Dance, Dance, Dance

What a delight to see all of the students in Years 4-6 dancing in unison as part of their Physical Ed-ucation session last Friday. The dances were part of the learning for our whole school Musical; ‘Lights, Camera, Action’. The students have almost completed their 5 weeks of dance lessons, with work to continue in the classroom during Term 3, as we head towards the ‘big event’. Details relat-ing to tickets and other aspects of the Musical production will be available to families early next term.

School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) Values Survey:

There is still time to respond to our SWPB values survey. It is four quick questions and your re-sponses will help direct the actions of the group developing consistent behavioural practices across the school. We encourage all parents/carers to complete this survey: https://forms.gle/4iY9j1RHquM48J7J8 Year 6-7 Transition Timeline: Key Dates

ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 We are currently experiencing a number of prospective enrolments from outside out school zone. Whilst we currently have the capacity to accept enrolments outside our zone, we are eager to ensure all fami-lies intending to enrol from within our zone, have already done so. This helps ensure our class sizes and resource planning for 2020 are equitable and effective. If you have yet to enrol a sibling for 2020, or know of any families yet to enrol, please encourage them to contact the office. Judy Drew Principal [email protected]
