Dear Villagers, As this newsletter goes to print we are busy trying to find room for all of the new fabric we are receiving. Just this afternoon we received French General, that’s on top of all the fabric we received just last week, Miracle by Benartex and a few items from Cotton and Steel. As we approach the Back to School and the fall season, we have been busy planning classes that will help hone your quilting skills, help to stretch your creativity, and perhaps, help with your holiday gift giving. We are introducing Happy Hour, which is scheduled four times before the end of the year. Very simply Happy Hour is a quick visit to the quilt shop for a quick project and quick refreshments. We will post a picture of the item with its cost at least a week before the scheduled happy hour. Happy hour projects will cost between $2 and $5 dollars. You can sew your project together during happy hour or take it home to sew. Just last night I posted the project we will complete on September 21st. It is a wine bottle gift bag made in cute holiday fabric and the cost for it is $2.25. Dates for events are under classes. Once December arrives we will be providing you with gift ideas that fall into the quick, quicker and quickest categories. Of course we save the quickest projects for the Sunday closest to Christmas. Our first big event of the new season is our Day in Italy. Think about joining us for a fun day filled with everything Italian, including me! Liz, our rep from Westminster will be joining us and her sample is currently in the shop if you would like to stop by and take a look. Machine Quilting Sue Morrison ● 1 Session SMR

Skill Level: Beginner

This basic skills class teaches you how to finish your quilts using your home sewing machine. (Be aware

that not all machines were designed to machine quilt, but each machine is worth a try!) You will learn

how to start and stop your quilting threads and do basic even-feed (including stitch-in-the-ditch) and

free motion quilting. We’ll discuss different quilting threads and needles and how to adjust your ma-

chine’s tension.

Paper Piecing for Beginners Kim ● 1 session SMR

A basic beginner’s class for learning the art of paper piecing. Our project will be a block that

Make a lovely three dimensional cardinal wall hanging for the holiday! You will learn to make an oval frame border and then use Joan Shay’s 3-D Petal Play technique to create a realistic cardinal and holly leaves! The bonded fabric applique is attached to the background with a simple em-broidery stitch.

This Summer Jazz Dress is the perfect dress for any season. It can be paired with leggings for fall

or winter. For a successful outcome, it is important the you choose the correct size from extra

small to extra large. DO NOT USE YOUR READY TO WEAR SIZE. Take careful measurements as

explained in the pattern. We can help you do this before your class. We suggest soft fabrics

with good drape, such as cotton lawn, which will be available at The Village Quilter. (Note: the

pattern also suggest a knit for this dress. If you have never sewn with knit, I encourage you to

use a soft cotton instead)

Art Quilt Club All Levels

The Art Quilt Club is a monthly club for quilters/sewers/artists interested in exploring a new

style. Club meets the first Thursday of each month from 2-4 pm or 6:30-8:30 pm. Members

will sign up for a 6-month membership for $30.00 and work on projects based on the group’s

interests. No experience required - new members welcome! !

Jo’s Little Women Club There are currently 3 different sessions for this club

For the lovers of reproduction fabrics we are delighted to offer you Jo’s Little Women Club by

Jo Morton. Jo is a maker of small reproduction quilts and has numerous fabric lines. She has

developed a club with club member exclusive patterns. Each meeting begins with a short

program by Karen featuring some interesting history of the quilts of this time period.

Tea & Applique Club Tuesday 9/6, 10/4, 11/1, 12/6. Class 10:30am-12:30pm Fee $5 each class

This club meets the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30-12:30 to work on appliqué techniques

& projects. Appliqué club open to anyone interested in sharing ideas and refining appliqué

skills. We love to share with beginners. Join the fun and the fellowship & Tea!!!
