‘Gorillas of Uganda’ - 5 day tour

• Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is one of the richest biological and botanical regions in the world. This UNESCO Natural World Heritage site is home to around 350 wild and endangered Mountain Gorillas, and many endemic birds and butterflies.

• After a trek of between 1 and 5 hours, sit in the forest amongst the gorillas and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male: the Silverback.

• Overnight Silverback Lodge (left)

• En route back to Entebbe, stop for a picnic lunch (and photos!) at the Equator. If time, you may visit the Botanical Gardens, on the shore of Lake Victoria.

• Drive through Fort Portal set against the backdrop of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains to magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park. Overnight at Katara Lodge (below left).

• Early morning game drive, on the search for lions, Uganda kob, giant forest hog.

• Water safari on the Kazinga Channel that connects two Rift Valley lakes: Edward and George (named after Queen Victoria’s heirs). View hippos at close range, 100+ species of Water Birds, Elephants and Nile Crocodiles.

• Pass through Ishasha, famed for its tree-climbing lions, game-viewing en route to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site is home to around 350 wild Mountain Gorillas, and many endemic birds and butterflies.

• After a trek of between 1 and 5 hours, sit in the forest amongst the Mountain Gorillas and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male: the Silverback. Overnight Mahogany Springs (full board).

• A day room is booked in Entebbe so you can relax before your flight home.

• Overnight at Lake Victoria Serena Hotel (B&B).

• Drive to Fort Portal and visit the Rwenzori Mountain Sculpture Foundation.

• Visit Kibale Forest National Park, home to over 13 species of primates including Red Colobus, Blue and the rare L’Hoest Monkeys; butterflies, 335 bird species and the elusive Forest Elephant. Overnight Kyaninga/Primate Safari Lodge (full board).

• Track the habituated Chimps - watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees.

• Early morning game drive in magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park: lions, Uganda kob, giant forest hog. Water safari on the KazingaChannel. View hippos, 100+ species of water birds, Elephants and Nile Crocodiles. Panoramic views of from your lodge Mweya/Katara Lodge (FB).

• Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (time allowing) en route to Murchison Falls, home to 76 mammal species and 451 bird species. Overnight at Murchison River Lodge (full board)

• On an early morning game drive look for crocodiles, hippos and water birds, lion, buffalo, rare aquatic Sitatunga antelope, topi, waterbuck, elephant and leopard. Take a boat ride to the Nile Delta in search of the incredible Shoebill.

• An evening game drive at Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve looking for antelopes (Hartebeests, Kob, Bushbucks and Duikers) and primates; admire the Blue Mountains of the DR Congo. Overnight at Lake Albert Lodge (full board).

• Track the habituated Chimps of Kibale Forest National Park. Visit the memorable Bigodi Wetlands. Overnight Kluges Guest farm (full board).

• Early morning game drive in magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park: lions, Uganda kob, giant forest hog. Afternoon water safari on the Kazinga Channel. View hippos, 100+ species of water birds, Elephants and Nile Crocodiles. Panoramic views of from your lodge Katara Lodge (FB).

• Take an early morning game drive to spot crocodiles, hippos and water birds, lion, buffalo, rare aquatic Sitatungaantelope, topi, waterbuck, elephant and leopard. Take an unforgettable boat ride to the base of the famous Falls.

• Track the habituated Chimps of Kibale Forest National Park. Visit the memorable Bigodi Wetlands. Overnight at Primate/Kyaninga Lodges (full board).

• Early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park: lions, Uganda kob, giant forest hog. Afternoon water safari on the Kazinga Channel. Up close view hippos, 100+ species of water birds, Elephants and Nile Crocodiles. Overnight at Mweya or Katara Lodge (full board).

• Hike Kyambura Gorge, a forest which - extraordinarily -extends into the wide savanna grassland and is home to hippo, elephant, chimpanzees and other primates. Overnight at Mweya or Katara Lodge (full board).

• Pass through Ishasha, famed for its tree-climbing lions, en route for the Rwanda border for gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. After the rangers’ introductory talk, the guides will take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth to track the gorillas, a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

• Uganda’s Lake Bunyonyi gets its name from the many ‘little birds’ in this area. From here, take a scenic drive through Kabale Highlands – ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ -to Lake Mburo. The topography is mainly green, interlocking and heavily cultivated hills with spectacular valleys.

• Lake Mburo National Park is a compact gem, and home to 350 bird species as well as zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck.

Okech has exceptional knowledge of East African wildlife, history, geography and culture. He is:

Yvonne is one of the few German-speaking guide in Uganda.
