This is a comprehensive multidisciplinary palliative care education resource comprised of nine learning packages. The flexibility of this resource means that it is able to be effectively utilised in all health care settings including general practice, hospital, community and ARC facilities. The topics covered include:

Essence of palliative care

Ethical issues in palliative care

Pain and symptom management

Palliative care for people with chronic illness

Palliative care for people with dementia

Communication skills

Last days of life

Loss and grief

Caring for ourselves

Spiritual Care It is strongly recommended that participants complete the Essence of Palliative Care first, as this sets the scene for the remaining sessions. The above 10 packages have been grouped into 3 integrated workshops that will be provided in Palmerston North, Horowhenua (Levin) and Tararua (Dannevirke). These workshops will run throughout 2017, as per the outline on the following page. Please note that for each of the workshops you may be required to do some pre-reading. A post learning activity and feedback form will also need to be completed and returned to Arohanui Hospice. Certificates will be provided on completion of the above requirements following each workshop, and after completion of the 3 workshops you will receive a HNZ Fundamentals of Palliative Care badge. Workshop 1: Essence of Palliative Care, Ethical Issues and Communication Skills Workshop 2: Pain and Symptom Management, Dementia and Chronic Illness Workshop 3: Last Days of Life, Loss and Grief, Caring for Ourselves and Spiritual Care
