FAREWELL & THANK YOU
Deacon Michael Madison and
Mary Catherine McBride
We have been so blessed to be part of Our
Lady of the Wayside Parish for 28 years.
We have raised our four children here, who
are now spread across four time zones. We
have celebrated many sacraments for them
including marriage and baptism of their
children. We have been privileged to
participate in many ministries, community
building and Christian Family Movement
(CFM). We have been ministered to when
we were in need due to job loss, sickness,
and death of family members. We were
formed at Wayside, responded to God’s
call, leading us to Diaconate Formation and
Holy Orders, with the full support of the parish. We reflected recently on my ordination eight
years ago. What a blessed day in our lives! We have been blessed to be of service to God and
His people, especially here at Our Lady of the Wayside, our home.
God has His hand upon us. We have felt it in the past and feel it again as He is calling us to new
ministry at Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana, ministering to young adults and helping them
develop their faith lives and their relationship with Jesus.
Through our interaction with young people in baptismal preparation, marriage preparation, our
youth group, school, and CFM, we are confident of the future of Our Lady of the Wayside as a
vibrant parish, responding to the needs of its community. This parish will step forward to
support a new pastor as we enter the challenge of a “new normal” of parish life. God is with us
on our journeys. Of this we can be sure. Let us encourage each other to respond to Him with
prayer and gusto.
Thank you for your love and support of our family. You are in our prayers.
Peace and love,

Holy Trinity Sunday - Reflection
My brothers and sisters, today we celebrate the feast of the
Holy Trinity. On this special day, I would like to encourage
you to reflect on two mysteries: the mystery of God’s Love
and the mystery of striving for holiness. These two mysteries
are very important for our spiritual life.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, we as Catholics and
Christians can respond to God’s Love in only one way: we
can respond by opening our hearts and accepting the gift of
His Love. To be open to God’s love means to believe in His
Love.
The second mystery of our spiritual life, which I would like
to encourage you to consider, is the universal call to holiness.
The universal call to holiness means that each one of us is called in a special way to be a
saint. God came into the world in Jesus Christ so that we might be united with Him. In other
words, Jesus Christ left His majesty and lowered Himself by becoming man.
But, my brothers and sisters, He did this so that He could elevate us to the dignity of partici-
pating in God’s majesty. In other words, He made it possible for us to be divinized, to be
sanctified. Therefore, the goal of following the path to holiness is being perfectly united with
God—perfectly immersed in His Love.
My brothers and sisters, after sharing these reflections with you, one question arises: What
does God expect from us especially in very difficult times in our country? The answer to
this question is very simple. God expects our love. God waits for us to turn away from
the darkness, evils of racism and to discover His Love. He waits for us to follow the way
of holiness—the way of discovering His Love by doing good works, helping others, and
sharing His Love. On the way to holiness and the way of responding to God’s Love, there is
no room for selfishness. There is no room for pride. There is no place for egoism. Rather,
there is room only for the humble fulfillment and faithfulness to God’s will.
My brothers and sisters, on this Sunday I would like to invite you to take some time to show
God’s Love to others. Follow the way to holiness by loving God and others. Amen.
Father Arthur Marat
A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ARTHUR
My brothers and sisters, students and teachers of Our Lady of the Wayside School, today is an
important day - the day we wait for all year long: the last week in the school! Today we have
gathered with you to hear what Jesus wants to keep in mind during the entire summer vacation.
What makes our love for God and his commands grow in us? Faith in God and hope in his
promises strengthens us in the love of God. They are essential for a good relationship with God,
for being united with him. The more we know of God the more we love him and the more we
love him the greater we believe and hope in his promises. The Lord, through the gift of the Holy
Spirit, gives us a new freedom to love as he loves. Do you allow anything to keep you from the
love of God and the joy of serving others with a generous heart? Paul the Apostle says: hope
does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy
Spirit which has been given to us (Romans 5:5).
Now students, you know what your homework assignment is for summer vacation - homework
that Jesus himself has given you. First, you must love God with all of your heart, mind and soul.
What does this mean? This means praying, or keeping in contact with God in your daily life. It
also means to remember to pray every day with your parents or Grandparents. While we might
have vacation from school, we never have a vacation from God, from His Love. Read the Bible
with your parents, especially since we have no Vacation Bible School. Read, read, read, only
good books! Read the life of the saints and, of course, read the summer reading recommended
by teachers and school.
Second, your next responsibility is to love your neighbor as yourself. This, students, means that
you must obey your parents, be kind to your brothers and sisters. If you find someone in need -
perhaps a parent or neighbor - do what you can to help others and to pray for them. Vacation is
not only a time to have fun and relax, but also a time to do good for others - to love others. Make
this entire summer vacation your own summer Bible School.
Dear students, teachers and friends, I wish you all a safe and restful summer vacation. May you
spend the next few months aware of Jesus’ love for you.
May you look for Jesus in prayer, find Him in Sunday Mass, and serve Him in your neighbors,
family and friends. And my your love for Him be worth more than all burnt offerings and
sacrifices.
God bless you, Father Arthur

SUMMER DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A SEASON OF SUFFERING
By: Carla Basiliere
Here in the Midwest, the start of warm weather is a much anticipated and welcome change. After months of
frigid cold, we are more than ready for the warm sunshine, green grass and blooming flowers. But if you suffer
from seasonal allergies, the things we love most about this time of year can bring discomfort and suffering.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the past 12 months 19.2 million adults have
been diagnosed with seasonal allergies, commonly referred to as hay fever, and 5.2 million children have re-
ported having them. So what exactly causes seasonal allergies?
“Your immune system essentially mistakes things like tree pollen and dander for harmful substances, overre-
acts and starts fighting them off with antibodies. This produces symptoms of an allergic reaction,” explains Dr.
Edmund Fernandez, a family medicine physician at the Aurora Health Center in Slinger.
According to Dr. Fernandez, common symptoms of allergies include:
Sinus congestion
Runny nose
Sneezing
Coughing
Itchy or water eyes
Hives
Dr. Fernandez warns that it can be easy to confuse allergies with a common cold since the symptoms are often
similar. In order to determine whether you have a cold or allergies, Dr. Fernandez advises you consider the
time of year. Allergies ramp up in spring, summer and fall, while colds are more common in winter. Check
your temperature, he adds. A fever sometimes comes with a cold but is never a symptom of allergies. On the
other hand, itchy eyes, nose, ears and throat often come with allergies, but not a cold. Lastly, consider the
length of your symptoms. Colds typically last three to 10 days, while allergies can stick around for weeks or
even the entire season.
If you suffer from allergies, consider these tips for managing them so that you can fully enjoy the season:
1. Monitor your local pollen counts and limit your time outdoors when the counts are high. It’s also a good
idea to keep your windows closed if you can in order to limit the amount of pollen getting inside your home.
2. If you spend time outdoors, take a shower when you get inside and wash the clothing you were wearing.
3. Take part in spring cleaning. After a long winter, your home can be filled with indoor allergens like mold,
dust and dander.
4. Use an air purifier with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. HEPA filters are also available for
some vacuum cleaners, furnaces and air conditioners.
5. If you experienced allergies last spring, don’t wait to start fighting them this year. Start taking your usual
allergy medication before pollen season begins and continue taking it consistently through the season.
6. Schedule an appointment with an allergist or your primary care provider. He or she can recommend various
antihistamines, decongestants and other treatment options to help relieve your symptoms.

OLW PARISHIONERS ENJOY BRIEF VISIT WITH JESUS DURING SATURDAY PROCESSION
While the church technically has not re-opened yet, OLW parishioners were able to enjoy the presence of Jesus Christ as
Father Arthur Marat and several OLW deacons processed around the parish grounds before the conclusion of the 5:00 p.m.
Mass on Saturday, May 30.
Father Marat, accompanied by Deacons Jerry Brennan, Pete LeTourneau and Paul Onischuk, processed around the OLW
Parish grounds, departing from the front stairs of the Church and circling the entire parish complex, including a brief stop
in the OLW School gymnasium.
An estimated 120 OLW parishioners and other observers watched the procession, which ended in the Church for the con-
clusion of the Mass.

PRAY FOR THE SICK
CYCLES OF FAITH

The Most Holy Trinity
A well-choreographed dance can be truly inspira-
tional. Each movement
and step are intercon-
nected, each contribut-
ing a piece of the un-
folding artistic story.
The beholder is caught
up in the rhythms, mu-
sic, and gestures, real-
izing that none are dispensable and all are neces-
sary. The same is true of the Divine Dance of the
Trinity. Each Person plays a part, using unique ges-
tures and movements that are connected to the other
Divine Partners. They tell a story of love. Every
movement and step is born of love and flows on
into eternity. The Divine Dance never ends.
God the Creator powerfully, yet with gentle love,
leads. Creating and recreating, birthing and sustain-
ing, He dances with the compassionate incarnate
Son, guided by the breath of the Holy Spirit. They
are three distinct Persons but move as One. On one
hand, the cascading flow of their Presence appears
motionless, yet on the other, flows and moves with
effortless attention. They share one heart, one goal,
and one purpose and invite all of creation to join in
their dance, their joy.
The energy of the Trinity flows through all created
things. It is a dance of the heart, not of the mind. It
has to be experienced, not dissected, and contem-
plated, not understood. We stand in awe of the Di-
vine Dance and find ourselves watching in amaze-
ment all that God creates and sustains. The dance
continues in the majesty of a mountain, the power
and wonder of an ocean, and the vastness of the uni-
verse. It moves in the cry of a newborn infant and in
the soul of one who has been forgiven. It flows in
the cry for justice and in the wounds of the op-
pressed. It circles through the changing of seasons,
the cycles of birth and death, and the wisdom that
one acquires when they love God.
The Dance never ends. Its movements and rhythms
go on forever. The Trinitarian Dance sustains all
things, endures all things, and brings hope. You are
invited to dance. Don’t just watch as if you were
simply a spectator. Join in the dance and move as
they move.
