• Born in Macedonia• Father- Nicomachus, a doctor near Macedon• Not a poor family• Soon moved to Athens

Early Days

• A young man- 350 B.C.- went to Plato’s Academy• Did very well• Was not chosen to lead after Plato’s death• Moved back to Macedonia to tutor Alexander the Great• Went back to Athens and opened Lyceum• He was really into science- biology• Putting man-made control over the “chaotic natural

world”• Created classification system- governments (monarchy,

oligarchy, etc.)

Later/Death Days

• Wrote aboutethics, psychology, economics, theology, politics, and rhetoric

• Classified most animals• His definition of Meteorology was much more broad

than the modern definition • Alexander died- everyone accused him of being on

the side of the Macedonians• Went back to Macedonia to avoid all the accusations• Few years later he died
