Record companies Arista, Sony Music and Zomba sue United Airlines and Rightscom for copyright infringement of sound recordings and music videos. The labels allege that the defendants make unauthorized reproductions of the copyrighted sound recordings and transmit to passengers. Plaintiffs also sue for infringement of pre-1972 sound recordings, which are covered only under state laws and not by the United States Copyright Act.Note: The Copyright Act does not provide a performance right for sound recordings.
