The fantasy genre has dominated the bestsellers lists, movie theaters, and mu-seum exhibits. Fantasy provides an escape from the fast paced days, and fills the void of emotionless communication with nostalgia, surrealism, and a way for self expression.

Fantasy is a growing genre that allows people to escape from the stress of everyday life, like a sultry night.

Lingerie and jewelry are categories of women’s fashion that are purchased for the emotional connection. Women wear both because it makes them feel better about themselves and their beauty. The growing closeness of lingerie as clothing, jewelry, and high embellishment is causing designers to blur the lines of these categories and fuse the different classifications.

Sultry Fantasy: Concept/Trends

Sultry Fantasy is a luxury fantasy collection, fusing lingerie and jewelry, and filling the needs of emotion, nostal-gia, and surrealism.

Sultry Fantasy: In Depth ProcessThe chainmaille bodysuit brainstorming started with a selection of classic and modern chainmaille weave patterns. The Japanese Hodo pattern by the way it was able to be manipulated to fit the decorative style of the garment with custom sized rings. As well as, structur-ally fitting into the pattern piece shape. The Layered Chain was chosen for the necklace portion because of the decora-tive style. To connect the two is a varia-tion of the Japanese Daisy 12 in 2.

The bustier was designed with a gold colored ‘armor’ plate. This piece was created in Adobe Illustrator, and checked to make sure there were no filigree overlap lines (to keep it all one piece!). The design was then cut from brass sheet metal with a water jet, curved to fit the body, and then sewn to the garment.

Synergetic: Trend

Technology Filter:As technology continues to grow to meet a consumer expectation of new innovations we will begin to see the boundaries between what is real and what isn’t blur. With technology and social media continually growing our need to filter our world through the technology at our finger tips becomes an everyday task of documentation and proof of life.

Synergetic: Opportunity/PersonaTo design a line of jewelry that is infused with technology, as the new consumer can’t go without seeing their world through technolo-gy, sharing and documenting their lives. This new line will allow them to be even closer to their over connected and enhanced reality.

Jillian is a young professional currently working her first job at a magazine as the Assistant Art Director. She is very connected to her world through every gadget and technolo-gy device she can get her hands on. She loves to spend time in the city and continuously views the world through a camera or a video camera docu-menting every aspect of her life. Anytime she is seen out and about, her phone will be found in one hand and a camera in the other. To make her style of life easier she is constantly looking for the newest and greatest technology updates, while still keeping fashionable, that have to do with life documentation and social media.

Jewelry: CastingAll of these pieces were created using the lost wax method. A piece is designed and created in wax, then formed into a mold and cast out of metal.

The design can be created in multiple ways. This picture stone is attached to a dop stick and then dipped into a pot of casting wax (dark blue) the design was then carved on top of the stone and back closure pieces and a bail were added once the carved wax was complete.

Sprues were added to allow for the flow of the metal through the mold to the final piece.

Jewelry: Casting

This ring was created using sheet wax that was cut to shape and then bent to the ring size. It was then set with wax prongs for the faceted citrine CZ.

This agate slab necklace was created from the trends of liquid metal and the different slabs of agate found in jewelry with and without druzy.

The stone was dipped into casting wax and then slowly dripped down and around the top of the stone to form a metal cap using heat and gravity to allow for the design to take shape.

Jewelry: FabricationThese pieces were created through manipulating and soldering wire and sheet metal.

This sterling silver and opal ring was designed to be a simple setting to complement the complexity of the fire in the stone. To give stability to the long shape, the ring shank is a split double wire creating peaks in the center back of the stone setting.

The second ring has a less drastic split shank with a sphere of silver soldered between the wires. A decorative twisted wire sits tight around this stone bezel.

Page 19: ArianaBostwickJEWELRYPortfolio

The matching ring and bangle bracelet are made from a round wire that has been folded in half twisted and the hammered flat. The section of twisted wire is then cut to length and soldered to make the pattern continuous.

The ring is using the folded top to create the larger loop in the center it is soldered and filed to appear continuous.

Jewelry: Fabrication

The cuff bracelet is formed using half round wires that are wrapped and formed to shape and soldered together.

Page 20: ArianaBostwickJEWELRYPortfolio

Jewelry: Wire WrapThese pieces were designed and created with silver and gold wire, using square, round, and half round wire.

The woven bracelet was made with four larger round wires that were twisted and flattened as the center piece then four more wires woven up and down around the center section.

Page 21: ArianaBostwickJEWELRYPortfolio

Jewelry: Wire Wrap

The stone pendants were wrapped with a set of wires that are then pulled around the stone to hold it in. They are then twisted around the top and stone to create the bail and form decoration of the piece.
