About This Manual

Aria 1.2 software supports the Octel Overture 250 and Octel Overture 350 message servers.These servers provide telephone answering and voice messaging to the Global Business Solutions(GBS) marketplace.

This Aria 1.2 Release Manual describes the capabilities introduced with Aria 1.2 as they affectservice personnel. It consolidates information that historically has been included in a ServiceNote and in Service Manual updates for a new software release. Most of the information isapplicable to both the Octel Overture 250 and the Octel Overture 350, but wherever there aredifferences in the information for these products, the Release Manual describes those differences.

The four chapters in this manual provide the following:

1. An introduction to Aria 1.2 as it affects system managers and service personnel

2. Procedures to upgrade to Aria 1.2

3. New Aria 1.2 system utilities and procedures for use by service personnel

4. Field-identified Product Change Requests (PCRs) that are addressed by Aria 1.2

A general table of contents is included at the beginning of the manual. An index at the end of themanual allows you to locate information about specific subjects rapidly and easily.

Compared with the original Aria 1.2 Release Manual, P/N 101–1477–000, this edition includesthe following updates:

INTRODUCTION

Aria 1.2 software introduces support for new hardware, features, and utilities that are described inthis Release Manual. Some of these features are used by service personnel, and others areadministered by system managers.

Features for Service Personnel

New Aria 1.2 considerations for service personnel include the following:

� New FLT-A card for Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T) integration in the OctelOverture� 250 (with new line types)

In addition to English TDD/TTY, Aria 1.2 supports the same languages as Aria 1.0 and Aria 1.1;namely, American English, American Spanish, British English, and Canadian French.

Administered AMIS

Subscribers with mailboxes on an Octel Overture 250 or 350 server can use AMIS analognetworking to exchange messages with subscribers on non-Octel voice-messaging systems.Messages can be sent to any voice-messaging system that supports the AMIS analog standard.This optional feature extends voice messaging from the voice processors of one manufacturer tovoice processors at many locations from many manufacturers. AMIS analog networking can beenabled on any Octel server.

Administered AMIS enhances the standard AMIS analog networking feature. When usingstandard AMIS analog networking, subscribers must know the message-addressing sequencerequired, the access number of the destination system, and the mailbox number of the recipient.With administered AMIS, as with OctelNet networking, subscribers need only know thedestination addresses; that is, the node and mailbox numbers of the recipients. Also, a node namecan be recorded for an AMIS node, so address confirmation is reduced from a 10-digit numberstring followed by a mailbox number to a short node name followed by the mailbox number. As aresult, administered AMIS is the simplest messaging solution for subscribers to send messages tonon-Octel voice-messaging systems.

With administered AMIS, the system manager can schedule messages for delivery at anypredetermined time. With standard AMIS, messages are queued for immediate transmission.

When an AMIS message comes into an Octel server, it includes a telephone number to which areply can be sent. The system manager enters this telephone number in CCITT format in the newSite ID: field of menu 15.1.3. Whenever the server receives an AMIS message, it compares thetelephone number included with the message to the server’s list of administered AMIS site IDs. Ifa match is found, the server recognizes the sending system as an administered AMIS node. In thiscase, if a subscriber plays the message’s envelope information, it includes the name that thesystem manager recorded on this server for the remote node.

In the Node Phone Number: field, the system manager specifies the number the server calls tosend messages and replies to the AMIS node. Usually, this should be the same number entered inthe Site ID: field. However, dialing-plan irregularities sometimes prevent delivery of replies tothe telephone number that the sending node included with the AMIS message. In this case, thesystem manager specifies the correct number for the server to call in the Node Phone Number:field.

As with standard AMIS, administered AMIS does not support messages more than 8 minuteslong (including any prepended sender’s name), delivery options (urgent, private, future delivery,confirmation of delivery), operator-assisted networking, line turnaround (allowing remote noderesponse in the same call), fax messages, NameNet entries, or multiline networking.

When the following actions are attempted, the server plays new prompts to indicate that theactions are not permitted:

� A subscriber tries to send a fax annotation to an AMIS node.

� A subscriber tries to forward a fax message or fax annotation to an AMIS node or to afollow-me-forward mailbox that has been forwarded to an AMIS node.

� A caller tries, in telephone-answering mode, to leave a fax message in a mailbox that hasbeen forwarded to an AMIS node.

For administered AMIS to work, both feature option 44 – Networking and feature option 49 –AMIS Analog Networking must be enabled.

Multiline Networking

With Aria 1.0 and Aria 1.1, the OctelNet networking feature allows only one telephoneconnection to a specific remote node; some customers create multiple alias nodes to permitmultiple, simultaneous transmissions.

The multiline networking feature of Aria 1.2 allows up to 12 simultaneous connections, asspecified in the Node Profile (menu 15.1.3). Before each additional line is seized, criteria for boththe total number of messages to be networked (0–500) and the total duration of these messages(0–120 minutes), as specified by the system manager, must be met.

With multiline networking, there is still only one networking queue per node. Messages aretransmitted from that queue one by one, on a line that is currently transmitting, or on a new line ifthe multiline thresholds are met. All lines that have been seized for transmission remain dedicatedto networking until all messages are transmitted, even when the remaining numbers of messagesand minutes fall below the criteria by which a new line is seized.

If any ports that are enabled for networking in menu 4 are also used for other tasks such asaccepting incoming calls, outcalling, or paging, heavy use of multiline networking could affectthose tasks. If the system manager expects that multiple lines will be used heavily for networking,he or she may wish to dedicate particular ports to networking.

In addition to the Maximum Number of Simultaneous Transmissions: field, the actual numberof lines used simultaneously for networking can be limited by whether any ports enabled fornetworking in menu 4 are available.

Whenever a line is seized for networking, a CDR event 66 (BN_MULTILINE) is generated. Youcan use the Online CDR utility to search for these events and determine whether appropriatethresholds have been set for each node. Refer to the Online CDR User Reference Guide, P/N 101–1479–000.

Established message-delivery schedules also apply to multiline networking. That is, multilinenetworking takes place only during established delivery windows.

Octel advises against enabling multiline networking to any nodes that do not have Aria 1.2software, because this could create a traffic imbalance. For example, if many messages were sentsimultaneously by multiple lines from an Octel Overture 250 or Octel Overture 350 to an Aspenor to a server with Aria 1.1 software, there could be significant delays in transmission of repliesto those messages, because such receiving nodes without Aria 1.2 have only a single lineavailable for replies.

ASCII Name Verification

When subscribers use NameNet to send messages to a mailbox on a remote node, the server alsosends an ASCII representation of the name of each receiving mailbox owner. As a securitymeasure, the remote node checks that each destination mailbox exists and verifies that the ASCIIname assigned to that mailbox has remained the same since the last networked message wasdelivered. This ASCII name verification adds significant time to network message delivery whenmessages are sent to group-distribution-list destinations on a remote node.

With Aria 1.2, the system manager can choose to enable or disable ASCII name verification fornonprivate messages to personal-group or system distribution lists, at the risk that some of thedestination mailboxes were reassigned to new owners, who would be unintended recipients. Thesystem manager makes this choice in the Node Profile (menu 15.1.3); the choice could bedifferent for different nodes. Regardless of the choice, the remote node still checks that eachdestination mailbox exists, and the sender is told which messages, if any, cannot be delivered.ASCII name verification is always performed for private messages and for messages to individualmailboxes.

Control of MWI

With Aria 1.2, using a new field in menu 1.2, Configuration Parameters, the system manager canchoose to disable or enable subscriber control of the message-waiting indicator (MWI) for allsubscribers on the server. If disabled, subscribers are not prompted with options to turn MWI onor off. This feature can help isolate problems with message-waiting indication, becausesubscriber error can no longer occur if subscribers cannot control the setting.

If the system manager disables subscriber control of MWI, the most recent settings chosen byeach subscriber are retained. If a particular subscriber’s MWI is off and the system manager hasdisabled subscriber control, the system manager can use menu 9.1, Change Mailbox Profile, toturn that subscriber’s MWI on. Refer to the System Manager Manual, Addendum II.

Messaging Tutorial

Many subscribers use the server only for telephone answering, rather than also using it to sendmessages and reply to messages. With Aria 1.2, the server has two tutorials, one that describessending and copying messages and another that describes replying to messages. The systemmanager can configure the server to play the appropriate tutorial to any subscriber automatically,under the following conditions:

� The subscriber does not use rapid prompting.

� The subscriber’s class of service allows sending messages.

� The subscriber has accessed his or her mailbox a consecutive number of times that the systemmanager specifies (up to 100) and has not used the following options:

� The tutorial describing sending and copying messages plays when the subscriber has notused the send message (2) option, the send copy with introductions (6) option, or the sendcopy without introductions (6–6) option.

� The tutorial describing replying to messages plays when the subscriber has not used thereply (8) option or the call sender (8–8) option.

Whenever one of the tutorials is played, a CDR event 30 (TUT) is generated. You can use theOnline CDR utility to search for these events. Refer to the Online CDR User Reference Guide,P/N 101–1479–000.

TDD/TTY Support

TDD/TTY as a mailbox language is supported in Aria 1.2. When this language is installed,hearing- and speech-impaired subscribers can use voice mail and messaging. They use aTelecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) to display text that is equivalent to voiceprompts and to process messages.

A TDD has a keyboard and a display. Like a TeleType (TTY), a TDD receives Baudot tones sentto it over standard telephone lines and it translates the tones into the corresponding characters fordisplay. The TDD also generates and transmits Baudot tones for each character typed on itskeyboard. (Octel does not supply TDDs.)

To communicate by telephone with someone who can speak and hear but does not have a TDD, ahearing- or speech-impaired person with a TDD works with a special operator who has a TDDand who serves as an “interpreter.” The text typed by the hearing-impaired person is transmittedas Baudot tones and displayed on the operator’s TDD; the operator then reads it aloud to thehearing/speaking person. The operator also types the hearing/speaking person’s speech fortransmission to and display on the hearing-impaired person’s TDD. If both people in the call haveTDDs, the TDDs are connected directly to each other during the call, without using an operator.

Messages in the form of Baudot tones can be stored in voice mailboxes and subsequentlyretrieved by hearing-impaired people for display on their TDDs. However, when they call theserver, their hearing impairment can prevent them from hearing its voice prompts. To address thislimitation, Aria 1.2 software supports Baudot tones as a new “language” that the system managerestablishes in the subscriber’s mailbox profile. For this language, all phrases supported by Aria1.2 are recorded in Baudot tones so that, when hearing-impaired subscribers reach theirTDD/TTY mailboxes or a TDD/TTY application, they see the prompts on their TDD displays.No operator interaction is required to access the message server.

Aria 1.2 software does not translate voice messages to text or text to voice. Hearing- andspeech-impaired users still need assistance with voice messages recorded in their TDD/TTYmailboxes.

Some TDD/TTY devices use acoustic couplers that allow users to send touch-tones by pressingkeys on the standard telephone set. Other TDD/TTY devices have a special “tone” key thatdetermines whether numbers pressed on the TDD keyboard are to be transmitted as part of text or as touch-tones. Users of TDD/TTY mailboxes need to know that numbers in the body of amessage must be typed as text, and numbers that are responses to server prompts must be sent astouch-tones in “tone” (DTMF) mode. Users who do not have acoustic couplers might havedifficulty using dial-by-name; they would need to determine and enter the touch-tone digit thatcorresponds to each letter in the name.

Language type 24 has been redefined as American English (TDD/TTY) in menus 20.4.1, PhraseTable Initialization and 20.4.3, Set Language Type.

Servers must have Aria 1.2 software installed before you can add the TDD/TTY language. Use amaster drive to add the TDD/TTY language. If several languages are to be added, add TDD/TTYlast.

Application Easy Access

With the Application Easy Access feature of Aria 1.2, outside callers can access an application bypressing the 1 key during subscriber greetings. The application must recognize the subscriber as avalid system user. In their mailbox personal greetings, subscribers should briefly describe thefunction of the 1 key. For subscribers who have recorded extended-absence greetings, the 1 key isignored if callers press it.

A new field in menu 1.2 defines the type 40 mailbox number for the application that is accessedwhen callers press 1 while listening to the personal greetings of subscribers. If the systemmanager leaves this field blank, the 1 key is ignored, and normal mailbox functions are availableto the caller.

Depending on the application, subscribers might need to access the application and specifyparameters for it before their callers can use it. For example, the function of the application couldbe to transfer outside callers who press 1 while listening to a subscriber’s greeting to a telephonenumber that the subscriber has specified to the application.

Call Processing Enhancement

With Aria 1.2, leading (first-digit) zeroes are permitted for a variety of call-processing functionsof the telephone interface. For example, when a caller reaches an automated attendant that isconfigured for transfer by number, the caller can enter an extension number that begins with azero; with previous Aria releases, callers were transferred to an operator as soon as they pressedzero. Refer to the System Manager Manual, Addendum II for Aria 1.2, P/N 101–1476–000, fordetails.

The system manager can now prohibit callers from transferring from an automated attendant tonumbers beginning with 0, by entering a 0 in the Block Automated Attendant Transfer: field inmenu 6.1, Transfer, Outcall, and Pager Sequences on the SMT.

Port Traffic Statistics Utilities

The Port Traffic Statistics utilities introduced with Aria 1.2 are part of the Port Testing Utilitiesoptions that are only accessible online, in menu 20. They are available to service personnel andsystem managers. Refer to Chapter 3 for details on these utilities.

Node Expansion

With Aria 1.2, the maximum number of network nodes has been expanded from 500 to 999. The server can have up to 999 OctelNet or administered AMIS nodes in any combination.

Broadcast Messages Blocked from ApplicationMailboxes

With Aria 1.2 software, bulletin-broadcast and system-broadcast messages are not distributed toapplication mailboxes. The mailbox types that are affected by this change are types 1–7, 10, 12,29–35, 40, 45, and 61.

With all Aria releases, bulletin-broadcast messages are blocked from mailbox types 11, 20, 21,28, and 41; system-broadcast messages are blocked from mailbox types 20, 21, and 41.

Administrative-Options and FaxResponsePrompt Enhancements

Clarifications have been made to the prompts that subscribers hear for the voice-mail and faxmailbox administrative options after the subscribers select Personal Options, then AdministrativeOptions.

When callers access FaxResponse and request that a fax be sent in a separate call, the promptthey hear to specify a fax-machine telephone number has been clarified (in all languages exceptBritish English).

Feature Option 33 Name Changed from “MitelLimited” to “Set Emulation”

On menu 13.7, Display Software Features Installed, the name of feature option 33 has beenchanged from Mitel Limited to Set Emulation. This feature option is required for an OctelOverture 250 with an FLT-M or FLT-A card.

ONLINE UPGRADEINSTRUCTIONS

Overview

An online upgrade uses a PC with Octel-proprietary software and phrases. Equipment required toperform an online upgrade is listed in this chapter.

Consider the following before beginning an online upgrade:

� You cannot run a tape backup at the same time as an online upgrade. If the online upgrade isrunning, a scheduled backup will not begin until the upgrade is complete. If a scheduled tapebackup is running, the online upgrade will remain at the System Manager Terminal (SMT)Main Menu until the backup is complete.

� The Octel Overture 250 or Octel Overture 350 server must function correctly at its currentrelease. Resolve any errors in the status log or other problems.

� Octel Overture 250 servers in the United Kingdom and Ireland must be at Aria 1.1 softwareto upgrade to Aria 1.2. Elsewhere, customers may upgrade directly from Aria 1.0 or Aria 1.1to Aria 1.2.

� System drive 0, area A, must be redundant with system drive 1, area A. System drive 0, areaB, must be redundant with system drive 1, area B.

� If any IVR phrases are recorded, make the software and phrase areas A and B redundant priorto performing the online upgrade.

� Servers must have Aria 1.2 software installed before you can add the TDD/TTY languagethat is introduced with Aria 1.2. Use a master drive to add the TDD/TTY language. If severallanguages are to be added, add TDD/TTY last.

� If you use the PC’s COM 2 port rather than its COM 1 port for the online upgrade, and if andonly if the PC has Windows 95 installed, special utilities described in Product Alert 92 mustbe installed. The Octel Technical Assistance Center (TAC) provides the diskette that has theseutilities, along with installation instructions. Do not install the utilities from TAC if the PChas Windows 3.x installed.

� Online Help is available during the upgrade. Press the F1 key from any screen to access theonline Help.

If you are performing an online upgrade remotely, consider the following limitations:

� You cannot use the RDAC for a remote online upgrade of the Octel Overture 250.

� You can use only Hayes V-series ULTRA Smartmodems, 9600 baud.

� You must use a good-quality telephone line. If the telephone line is too noisy, you might needto stop and restart the upgrade.

� Transmission problems could occur during error correction (checksum/receipt) between thePC online tool and the server. For example, the PC and the server might lose synchronizationand require that the connection be reestablished.

� You must use the SMT port on the Octel Overture 250 or 350, an ASYNC port on the OctelOverture 250, or a flex port on the Octel Overture 350; however, you must reboot the serverwhen using an ASYNC or flex port, if the port is not already established.

� A service person at the remote site must connect and configure the remote capability.

� The service person performing the upgrade must monitor the upgrade while it is in process. If transmission or error-checking problems cause the upgrade to stop, the service person mustrestart the upgrade manually. However, the upgrade tool will start the procedure where it leftoff.

Check the Major Steps

The following major steps are required for performing an online upgrade:

1. Make sure that the correct equipment is available.

2. Have the engineering option enabled.

3. Clear the AMIS queue.

4. Verify the system boot area.

5. Disconnect the SMT, and connect the PC to the server.

6. Install the online-upgrade tool on the PC hard drive.

7. Verify the values in the PC Setup Menu.

8. Load software and phrase diskettes on the PC hard drive.

9. Perform the automatic upgrade.

10. Verify the upgrade.

11. Reset AMIS networking, if necessary.

12. Reset the boot area, and boot the new software.

13. Have the engineering option disabled.

14. Make software and phrase areas redundant.

These steps are described in the following sections.

Caution!If the online upgrade fails at any point during the procedure, callthe Octel Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for assistance. Donot attempt to resolve problems by yourself.

� A PC, preferably an 80386, 80486, or Pentium portable PC with a 33-MHz or fasterprocessor. The PC must have at least one serial COM port, 8 MB of RAM, and at least 20MB of free space available on the hard drive.

For direct connections between the PC and the server, you need the following:

� One female/female DB25/DB9 gender-changer adapter, P/N 003–1091–000, if the PC COM1 port has a 9-pin male connector

� One female/female DB25/DB25 gender-changer adapter, P/N 003–1092–000, if the PC COM1 port has a 25-pin male connector

For remote connections between the PC and the server, you need the following:

� Two external Hayes V-series ULTRA 96 Smartmodems, 9600 baud

� One modem cable

Software

Names of software and phrase diskettes depend on the server type, the configuration, and thelanguages supported. Each X in a part number in this chapter can be any number from 0 through9. Each X in a software or phrase file name can be a letter or a number. Specific diskette partnumbers change with each new release of diskettes. The following software is required toperform an online upgrade for an Octel Overture 250 or an Octel Overture 350 server:

� Online-upgrade-tool diskette, P/N 116–XXXX–XXX, at version 1.22A or higher

� Software diskettes; for example, A0120XXX.SU, P/N 316–XXXX–XXX

� Phrase diskettes; for example, XXXXXXXX.SPU, P/N 316–XXXX–XXX

� DOS 5.0 or higher, installed on the PC, if Windows 3.x is installed on the PC

� If Windows 95 is installed on the PC and you are going to use the COM 2 port rather than theCOM 1 port, diskettes with the utilities described in Product Alert 92 if these utilities have notalready been installed. (If installed, the Windows 95 desktop has an icon named Pcupgrdw.)

� TDD/TTY master drive, if installing this new language (which can be installed only afterAria 1.2 is installed)

Have the Engineering Option Enabled

Call the Octel Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to have the engineering option turned on. Beprepared to provide the pilot number of the hunt group assigned to the server. Wait forconfirmation that the engineering option has been enabled.

Clear the AMIS Queue

Clear the AMIS queue before beginning the upgrade, as follows:

1. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 7 to access Menu 7 – Class of Service Profile.

2. In the Class of Service: field, enter the number of a class of service that has AMISnetworking enabled.

3. Change the Type of AMIS Networking: field to 0 – None, and press Send.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each class of service that has AMIS networking enabled.

5. Press Ctrl–C to return to the SMT Main Menu.

6. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 20 to access Menu 20 – Service Operations.

7. From menu 20, enter the number for the SMT Debug Utilities. The > prompt appears.

8. From the > prompt, type amisdir, and press Return. If the reply reads Call EntryHead:FFFF, skip to the next section and continue with the upgrade. If the reply has anyother information, continue with step 9 to clear the AMIS queue.

9. Continue to check the AMIS queue by performing steps 6 through 8 until the AMIS queue iscleared. The amount of time required to clear the queue depends on the number of call entriesin the queue, the number of messages per call entry, and the retry schedule. This processcould take from a few minutes to a few hours.

To make the process faster, access menu 15.2.1 and set the Number of Attempts BeforeGiving Up: and Minutes Between Attempts: fields to 1. Make sure to return these values totheir original settings when the upgrade is finished.

10. Press Ctrl–C twice to return to the SMT Main Menu.

Verify the System Boot Area

Verify the system boot area, as follows:

1. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 20 to access Menu 20 – Service Operations.

2. Enter the number for the Miscellaneous Utilities option.

3. Enter the number for the Set System Boot Area option.

The System Boot Area: and Drive Next Boot Area: fields appear.

4. If the current System Boot Area: and Drive Next Boot Area: fields are the same, pressCtrl–C three times to return to the SMT Main Menu without changing anything.

or

If the boot areas are not the same, do the following:

a.. At the Enter area (A or B): prompt, enter either A or B, then press Return to make theboot areas the same.

b.. At the Set Boot Area Complete...Press any key to continue prompt, press Ctrl–C threetimes to return to the SMT Main Menu.

You can connect the PC to the server directly with cables or remotely through modems. Use oneof the following subsections that describes the connection you will be using between the PC andthe server.

Connecting the PC directly to the server

Place the PC next to the server. Figure 2-1 shows direct connections between the PC and an Octel Overture 250 server. Figure 2-2 shows direct connections between the PC and an OctelOverture 350 server.

1. With the server on line, disconnect the SMT cable, P/N 057–1335–000 for the Octel Overture250 or P/N 057–1174–000 for the Octel Overture 350, from the back of the SMT. Set theSMT aside.

2. Plug the disconnected end of the SMT cable into a null-modem connector, P/N 278–1083–000. Refer to Figure 2-3 for the Octel Overture 250 or Figure 2-4 for theOctel Overture 350.

3. Plug the cable and connector into the modem’s DTE interface port.

4. Leave the other end of the SMT cable plugged into the server’s designated SMT port,normally the CONSOLE connector on the CCF card for the Octel Overture 250 or J50 on thedistribution board on the back of the Octel Overture 350.

An alternative connection method (but one that requires rebooting the server if the flex portsare not already enabled) is to plug the other end of the cable into an ASYNC port on theOctel Overture 250 or a flex port (J43, J44, or J46) on the Octel Overture 350, then configuremenu 6 and reboot the server. Refer to the System Manager Manual for information aboutmenu 6 and configuring flex ports or ASYNC ports.

5. Plug an analog telephone line into the LINE port on the modem.

6. Plug the other end of the analog telephone line into the appropriate RJ11 telephone jack.

7. Plug a power cord into the AC jack on the modem, and plug the other end into a power outlet.

8. Configure the modem parameters as described in the manual provided with the modem. Referto the Peripheral Equipment manual for the parameters required by the server.

Connect the other modem to the PC, as follows:

1. Plug one end of the modem cable into the modem’s DTE interface port.

2. Plug the other end of the modem cable into a PC COM port, preferably the COM 1 port. Ifthe port has a 9-pin male connector, use a DB25/6-wire adapter, P/N 046–1576–000. ThePC’s COM ports are usually located on the back or side of the PC, and they usually have9-pin male connectors.

3. Plug an analog telephone line into the LINE port on the modem.

4. Plug the other end of the analog telephone line into the appropriate RJ11 telephone jack.

5. Plug a power cord into the AC jack on the modem, and plug the other end into a power outlet.

6. Configure the modem parameters, as described in the manual provided with the modem.Refer to the Peripheral Equipment manual for the parameters required by the server.

Install the Online Upgrade Tool on the PC HardDrive

If you are certain that the online upgrade tool at the level defined in the section “Make Sure Thatthe Correct Equipment is Available” has already been installed on this PC, skip to the next sectionof this procedure. Otherwise, install the online upgrade tool, as follows:

1. If the PC has Windows 3.x (rather than Windows 95) installed, do the following:

a.. Make sure that DOS 5.0 or newer is installed on the PC hard drive. It must be installedbefore you can load the upgrade tool. For assistance, refer to the DOS software manual.

b.. If screen-saver software is installed in the autoexec.bat file on the PC, disable thesoftware by modifying the file. For assistance, refer to the screen-saver software manual.

c.. For PCs that can run screen-saver software installed in Windows 3.1, exit Windows (or do not start it in the first place) so that you do not need to disable the screen-saver.

d.. If power-management or battery-conservation software is installed on the PC, disable thesoftware by modifying the autoexec.bat file on the PC. For assistance, refer to thesoftware manual.

Caution!Do not run an online upgrade on a laptop PC using a battery. ThePC must be plugged into an electrical wall outlet. Otherwise, theconversion might fail because of loss of battery power.

2. If you are using a laptop PC for the upgrade, make sure that the laptop PC is plugged into anelectrical wall outlet. Do not run an online upgrade when a laptop PC is running on a battery.

3. Boot the PC to the C:\> prompt. (For a PC that has Windows 95 installed, click on Start,select Shut Down, and select Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode.)

4. Place the online-upgrade-tool diskette into diskette drive A: (or drive B:, if appropriate).

5. At the C:\> prompt, type a: (or b:, if appropriate), then press Enter.

If no diskette is in the diskette drive when this step is performed, the Not ready reading driveA: Abort, Retry, Fail? message appears. Insert the diskette into drive A:, type a (for Abort),and repeat this step.

6. At the A:\> prompt, type install a: c:, then press Enter to specify the hard drive as thedestination for the online upgrade tool software. The PC’s ONLINE UPGRADE InstallationProgram screen appears, as shown in Figure 2-5.

8. Press any key. Remove the diskette, as instructed.

9. If the PC has Windows 3.x installed, at the C:\PCUPG> prompt, type pcupgrd and pressEnter to run the upgrade procedure from the hard drive. The Online Upgrade Main Menuscreen appears, as shown in Figure 2-7. Skip to the next section of this procedure.

10. If you are using the PC’s COM 2 port and if and only if the PC has Windows 95 installed,special utilities described in Product Alert 92 must be installed. Call the Octel TechnicalAssistance Center (TAC) to obtain the diskette that has these utilities; follow the installationinstructions provided with the diskette. Installing these utilities establishes two new icons onthe desktop. After you install the utilities, close any open applications, double-click on thenew icon named Pcupgrdw, and click on Yes to restart the PC in MS-DOS mode and launchthe online upgrade tool. The Online Upgrade Main Menu screen appears, as shown inFigure 2-7.

Whether the SMT is connected to the SMT-allocated port (CONSOLE on the CCF card in theOctel Overture 250 or J50 on the distribution board in the Octel Overture 350) or to anASYNC port on the 250 or a flex port on the 350, the SMT baud rate is set to 9600; the PCbaud rate must also be set to 9600.

When all fields are correct, press Enter. The Online Upgrade Main Menu reappears(Figure 2-7).

Load Software and Phrase Diskettes on the PCHard Drive

An online upgrade from Aria 1.0 or 1.1 to Aria 1.2 uses 31/2-inch Octel-proprietary software andphrase diskettes. These diskettes contain files to upgrade a server from one software release toanother. Phrase diskettes contain language data and phrases specific to a particular language. If aserver has multiple languages, phrase diskettes for each language are required. Upgrades fromAria 1.2 to later releases may not require phrase diskettes.

The software and phrase diskettes are labeled with file names, part numbers, and the number ofdiskettes in each group if more than one diskette is required.

The procedures for loading software and phrase diskettes onto the PC hard drive are identical.However, each diskette group is loaded independently. Load software or phrase diskettes, asfollows:

1. From the Online Upgrade Main Menu, select the Utilities Menu option, then press Enter. TheUtilities Menu appears, as shown in Figure 2-9.

Perform the Automatic Upgrade

Phrase upgrades and software upgrades are independent of each other. However, the upgradeprocesses are identical. Both upgrade processes require using the Begin Automatic Upgradeoption from the Online Upgrade Main Menu.

Caution!Make sure that you upgrade the phrases before you upgrade thesoftware. If the entire upgrade is not completed for any reason,the system can work with new phrases and old software, but itmight not work with new software and old phrases.

Phrases have changed for Aria 1.2. You must perform a separate phrase upgrade for eachlanguage to upgrade to Aria 1.2.

Upgrade the phrases before you upgrade the software. Perform the following steps to upgradephrases or software:

1. At the Online Upgrade Main Menu, select the Begin Automatic Upgrade option, then pressEnter. The names of previously loaded software and phrase diskette groups are displayed inthe UPG Directories menu, as shown in Figure 2-15.

2. Select the appropriate software (or phrase) UPG name, XXXXXXXX.SU (orXXXXXXXX.SPU, if appropriate). Press Enter.

If you are unsure which UPG name to select, check the UPG number on the labels of thediskettes that you loaded on the PC hard drive. If you are still unsure, contact the OctelTechnical Assistance Center (TAC) for assistance.

3. The Is This A Remote Upgrade? (Y/N): N prompt appears. If you are performing theupgrade through a direct connection, leave the default of N and press Enter, then skip to step5. If you are performing the upgrade remotely, type Y and press Enter.

4. The Modem Setup Menu appears, as shown in Figure 2-16. In the Dial String: field, enter thetelephone number of the remote modem, and press Enter twice.

5. The Erase Upgrade Log File? (Y/N): Y prompt appears. Leave the default of Y and pressEnter to delete the current log file, or type N and press Enter to maintain and append thecurrent log file.

The Upgrade Log File tracks all operations performed by the upgrade tool during an onlineupgrade. If the log file is erased, a new one is created. If it is not erased, the existing log filecontinues and is appended with new log file information. The log file can be viewed byselecting the Display Upgrade Log File option from the Utilities Menu.

6. At the Enter System Manager Password: prompt, enter the system manager password, thenpress Enter. Status Messages scroll until a screen similar to Figure 2-17 appears.

9. The upgrade continues for 45 minutes or more for phrases or 2 hours or more for software.The time depends on parameters such as system size, baud rate, and languages. When the upgrade is complete, the Upgrade Complete – Press <Enter> To Continue promptis displayed on the Online Upgrade Status screen, as shown in Figure 2-20.

The screen returns to the Online Upgrade Main Menu.

11. If additional phrase upgrades are required, repeat steps 1 through 10 for each of the otherphrase sets, then repeat steps 1 through 10 to upgrade the software.

Verify the Upgrade

Verify that the upgrade was successful, as follows:

1. Reconnect the SMT to the server, as it was before the upgrade.

2. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 20 to select Menu 20 – Service Operations.

3. Enter the number for the Drive Copy Utilities option.

4. Enter the number for the Display Drive Info option.

5. For an Octel Overture 250, at the Enter position of source drive [0–1]: prompt, enter 0 todisplay drive information about system drive 0. For an Octel Overture 350, at the Enterposition of source drive [S0–S1]: prompt, enter S0. The Drive Serial No: field is displayed.

6. Verify that the drive serial number is correct, then type Y and press Return at the Is this thecorrect drive? (y/n): prompt.

Drive information is displayed, showing the current software version in the System BootArea: field and the new software version in the nonactive area.

7. Press Ctrl–C and repeat steps 3 through 6 for system drive 1, if desired. Enter 1 or S1 at theprompt in step 5.

8. Press Ctrl–C twice to return to the SMT Main Menu.

Reset AMIS Networking, if Necessary

Reset AMIS networking after the upgrade, as follows:

1. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 7 to access Menu 7 – Class of Service Profile.

2. In the Class of Service: field, enter the number for a class of service that had AMISnetworking disabled in the “Clear the AMIS Queue” section.

3. Return the Type of AMIS Networking: field back to its original setting, and press Send.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each class of service that was changed.

5. If menu 15.2.1 was changed in the “Clear the AMIS Queue” section, return the Number ofAttempts Before Giving Up: and Minutes Between Attempts: fields to their original values.

Reset the Boot Area, and Boot the New Software

Although the upgrade is complete, you must reboot the server to enable the new software tooperate. Reset the boot area, and reboot the server, as follows:

1. Access the status log (menu 13.2) and make sure that all errors have been corrected.

2. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 20 to select Menu 20 – Service Operations.

3. Enter the number for the Miscellaneous Utilities option.

4. Enter the number for the Set System Boot Area option.

The System Boot Area: and Drive Next Boot Area: fields appear.

5. At the Enter area (A or B): prompt, enter the letter for the area not currently used as thesystem boot area.

6. At the Set Boot Area Complete message, press any key to continue, then press Ctrl–C twiceto return to the SMT Main Menu.

7. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 13 to access Menu 13 – System Maintenance.

8. From menu 13, enter 1 to select Shut Down with Dump.

9. At the Enter “1” – allow lines to clear, “2” immediate shutdown, “Break” – Cancel:prompt, enter 1 to allow the lines to clear before shutdown.

For an Octel Overture 250, if the upgrade loaded onto the system drive included newfirmware for the “flash” EPROMs on the CCF card, the EPROMs will be automaticallyupdated immediately after the PIPL. The upgrade of the flash EPROMs can take severalminutes and it causes a message to be presented on the SMT informing you of the CCF cardupgrade. It does not require any action on your part. The server then reboots using the newfirmware and continues with the software upgrade.

10. When the ENTER BOOT COMMAND: prompt appears, enter A. The server reboots, usingthe new software.

Have the Engineering Option Disabled

Call the Octel Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to have the engineering option turned off.

Reactivate screen-saver software on the PC, if necessary.

Make Software and Phrase Areas Redundant

Having two software areas on the server allows an upgrade to be performed online and allowsnew software to be run on a trial basis, with the option of returning to the previous release.

The server should now be running with the new software. The old software should still be in thenonboot area. Octel recommends that the server be run with the new software for approximately 1week, to ensure that the server is running smoothly.

Caution!If problems arise with the new software, call the Octel TechnicalAssistance Center (TAC) immediately. Do not attempt to correctthe problems yourself.

If the server is running smoothly with the new software, make the software and phrase areasredundant, as follows:

1. Call the Octel Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to have the service option turned on. Be prepared to provide the pilot number of the hunt group assigned to the server. Wait forconfirmation that the service option is on.

2. From the SMT Main Menu, enter 20 to access Menu 20 – Service Operations.

3. Enter the number for the Drive Copy Utilities option.

4. Enter the number for the Make Drive(s) Redundant option.

5. Enter the number for the Make Software Areas A and B Redundant option.

6. A screen appears, showing the current System Boot Area: field, the Drive Next Boot Area:field, and the software versions of these two areas. At the Make Software area [destination]a redundant copy of area [source]? (y/n): prompt, make sure that the source area containsthe newest software, then type Y and press Return to make the software areas redundant.

7. At the Software areas now redundant...Press any key to continue prompt, press Ctrl–C. The Make Drive(s) Redundant menu reappears.

8. Enter the number for the Make Phrase Areas A and B Redundant option.

9. A screen appears, showing the current System Boot Area: field, the Drive Next Boot Area:field, and the phrase versions of these two areas. FLT-A Card and its Removal and Replacement

Aria 1.2 supports the new FLT-A card for Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T) integration withthe Octel Overture 250. This card eliminates the need for a separate integration device. The FLT-Acard provides eight ports; three FLT-A cards can replace three FLT8 cards and their associatedAT&T integration device. All FLT cards in an Octel Overture 250 must be of the same type.

The FLT-A card uses line type 145 if the U.S. standard of pulse-code-modulation (PCM)encoding is used, and line type 149 if the European standard of PCM encoding is used.

Refer to the Configuration Note for the FLT-A and the Installing an FLT-A Card in an OctelOverture 250 Installation Instructions, P/N 181–1190–000.

When the Temporary Bridged Appearance feature is enabled in Lucent (AT&T) System 75Version 3 and later, Definity G1, Definity G3i, and Definity G3r PBXs, after a call is forwardedor covered to the message server, the called party can pick up his or her telephone and be bridgedinto the call. Some customers might consider this a privacy issue, because anyone could pick upthe called party’s telephone and begin conversing or just listen to the message being recorded.

Setting the Keep Held SBA at Coverage Point? parameter to N in the FEATURE-RELATEDSYSTEM PARAMETERS Page 1 screen in the Lucent PBX software is supposed to disable theTemporary Bridged Appearance feature; however, setting this parameter to N does not successfullydisable the feature in Definity G3i and G3r PBXs that are running software versions 3 and 4. Octelhas identified this to Lucent as a software inconsistency.

However, in Definity G3i and G3r PBXs that have Vectoring, assigning the FLT-A ports in aUCD or ACD group to a Vector eliminates the potential privacy issue, because when calls areforwarded to a Vector, the Temporary Bridged Appearance feature does not apply.

The FLT-A card is hot-pluggable. In other words, you can remove and replace it when the serverpower is on. Remove and replace an FLT-A card, as follows:

1. Access menu 4.1 from the SMT Main Menu, and disable the ports associated with the card tobe removed.

2. Access menu 13 from the SMT Main Menu.

3. Select option 11 – Review Card Management. Menu 13.11, Review Card Management,appears. Figure 3-1 is an example of menu 13.11.

4. At Enter Card Slot:, enter the slot number for the card you need to replace. If you arereplacing a malfunctioning card, skip to step 6. If you are replacing an active card, thefollowing prompt appears:

6. Open the front door of the server, and locate the FLT-A card to be replaced.

8. Disconnect the TELCO cable from the card to be replaced.

9. Unscrew the captive thumb screws at the top and bottom of the card.

10. Remove the card by pulling up on its upper card extractor and pushing down on its lowercard extractor. Only handle the sheet-metal stiffener attached to the card and the card’s topand bottom edges. Do not touch the components or the edge connectors. Place the removedcard in an antistatic bag. Do not attempt to repair it.

(If the removed card is not going to be replaced at this time, make sure that the fields in allcolumns of menu 4.1 for all ports on this card are set to N.)

Caution!The card slot must remain empty for at least 30 seconds to allowthe server to recognize that the card has been removed. Insert thenew card carefully to prevent damage to the card, card extractors,and backplane pins.

11. After at least 30 seconds, carefully install the replacement card with its card extractors fullyopen. Do not force the card into the card slot. Press the card extractors firmly to make surethat the card is correctly seated in the backplane.

12. Tighten the thumb screws at the top and bottom of the card.

13. Connect the TELCO cable to the replacement card.

14. Remove the antistatic wrist strap.

15. At the SMT, press any key (except Q) to continue. The following message appears:

Card upload initiated...

If the upload is successful, the following prompt appears after a few minutes:

Card Slot XX uploaded. Status: OKUndo the “BUSY OUT” of the disabled card.

REMINDER: Use Menu 4 to change port assignments if necessary.

Card upload completed. Press any key to continue:

If the upload is not successful, press the Break key to cancel the upload, then remove thereplacement card. Leave it out for at least 30 seconds, reinstall it, and press any key to try theupload again. If the upload still fails, refer to the Octel Overture 250 Service Manual.

16. Observe the LEDs on the FLT-A card during startup.

Normal startup of the FLT-A card occurs as follows:

a. If the server has only one FLT-A card, the software selects two of its ports for primaryand secondary clock synchronization with the PBX.

If the server has two or more FLT-A cards, the software selects one of the ports on theleftmost FLT-A card as the primary source and one of the ports on the next FLT-A card tothe right as the secondary source for synchronization with the PBX.

b. When the diagnostics on an FLT-A card are completed successfully, all the SI and SOLEDs for all of that card’s ports flash together; as each port synchronizes with the PBX,its pair of SI and SO LEDs turns off.

If either the primary or secondary synchronization source loses synchronization with thePBX, the software generates a new type of non-service-affecting (NSA) alarm called “FrameSync Lost” and turns on the NSA alarm LED on the CCF card. You can use menu 13.8,Review Current Alarm Status, to display information about NSA alarms. A CDR event 118(GEN_ERR) is also generated; it defines which synchronization, primary or secondary, waslost. You can view the event in Online CDR. If the primary synchronization source fails, allFLT-A cards automatically switch to the secondary source, without affecting normal serveroperation.

17. Press any key to return to menu 13.11. This screen should show that all line cards are active.

18. Enter Ctrl–C until the Main Menu reappears.

19. Access menu 4.1 and return the ports associated with this card to their former configuration.

20. Test the ports, on line. From the SMT Main Menu, access Menu 20 – Service Operations,then enter the number for Port Testing Utilities. Refer to Chapter 10 in the Octel Overture250 Service Manual for testing procedures.

If you call an individual port on the FLT-A card directly from a test station that has a mailboxon the Octel Overture 250, you hear the personal greeting of the calling party, rather than thecalling party’s recorded name and the password prompt. If you call the pilot number directly,you hear the calling party’s recorded name and the password prompt.

21. Enter Ctrl–C until the Main Menu reappears.

22. Close the door of the server.

23. Return the original card to Octel Communications. Refer to Appendix A in the OctelOverture 250 Service Manual for procedures.

Conversion of Branch, Aspen, or Maxum to OctelOverture 250 Using PC Tape

With Aria 1.2, you can convert a Branch, Aspen, or Maxum source server at Release 1.5, 2.0, 3.0,4.0, or 4.1 software to an Octel Overture 250 server by performing (1) a backup from the sourcesystem to a tape in a special PC, and (2) a restore on the Octel Overture 250 using that tape in theOctel Overture 250’s tape drive.

If the source server is at Release 1.5 or 2.0, this new procedure makes an FCP (file-cardprimitives) upgrade unnecessary. In contrast, a conversion that uses the O250 Conversion Kit(called the “silver suitcase”) does require an FCP upgrade beforehand if the source server is notalready at Release 3.0 or newer.

Use the Tape-Based PC Database Conversion Installation Instructions, P/N 181–1187–000, toperform the PC tape conversion.

Conversion of Octel Overture 250 to OctelOverture 350

With Aria 1.2, you can convert an Octel Overture 250 at Aria 1.2 to an Octel Overture 350 atAria 1.2. Both servers must have tape drives installed. You perform the conversion by backing updata from the Octel Overture 250 onto tape and using that tape to copy (restore) the data to theOctel Overture 350. Up to 350 message hours can be converted using this procedure.

Use the Converting an Octel Overture 250 to an Octel Overture 350 Installation Instructions, P/N 181–1189–000, to perform this conversion.

Port Traffic Statistics Utilities

The Port Traffic Statistics utilities introduced with Aria 1.2 are part of the Port Testing Utilitiesoptions that are only accessible online, in menu 20. Without placing any test calls, they assist indiagnosing port problems by showing the numbers of incoming and outgoing calls on each port,either as a snapshot or as a continuously updated display. Each time a call is made on a port, acounter for that port is incremented. The maximum counter value is approximately 4 billion callsper port. The counters can be reset by using one of the utility options or by rebooting the server.Hot-plugging logic cards does not reset the counters. Use these utilities as follows:

To reset the counters for all ports to 0, select option 3 – Clear Port Traffic Statistics. (Thisdoes not affect reporting, CDR, or maintenance statistics.)

Mixed 1-GB, 2-GB, and 4-GB Message Drives,and the Upgrade Message Drive Utility

Aria 1.2 supports mixed 1-GB and 2-GB message drives, but not 4-GB message drives, on anyserver that does not have Global Message Redundancy (GMR). Aria 1.2 supports mixed 1-GB,2-GB, and 4-GB message drive pairs on any GMR server. Both message drives in any pair musthave the same capacity; however, a GMR server can have any combination of 1-GB drive pairs,2-GB drive pairs, and 4-GB drive pairs.

All Octel Overture 250 and Octel Overture 350 servers are shipped with 1-GB system drives.System drives of larger capacity should not be used. (In non-GMR Octel Overture 250s, they donot provide increased message capacity as compared to 1-GB system drives.)

Aria 1.2 includes a new Upgrade Message Drive utility for upgrading message drives from 1 GBto 2 GB, from 1 GB to 4 GB, and from 2 GB to 4 GB. This utility is one of the Drive ReplacementUtilities accessed from menu 20. The advantage of the Upgrade Message Drive utility over theReplace Message Drive utility is that it allows you to reinstall the original drive if the new drivefails during the upgrade.

The Upgrade Message Drive utility is used in the Installing 2-GB or 4-GB Drive Modules in an Octel Overture 250 Message Server Installation Instructions, P/N 181–1184–001 and in theInstalling 2-GB or 4-GB Drive Modules in an Octel Overture 350 Message Server InstallationInstructions, P/N 181–1185–001. These instructions describe how to use this utility to upgrademessage drives to larger capacity and how to consolidate messages from multiple smaller drivesonto larger drive(s) so that the smaller drives can be removed.

Reset Mirrored Drive Status Utility

The Reset Mirrored Drive Status utility converts a GMR server to a non-GMR server.

This utility checks that all primary drives in the GMR pairs are running, then disables anddeinstalls all the secondary drives in the GMR pairs, and resets the GMR flag. However,reestablishing GMR requires a complete reinstallation, including system reboot, using theappropriate Installation Instructions.

Caution!Use this procedure to disable GMR only under the specificdirection of the Octel Technical Assistance Center. ReestablishingGMR requires a complete reinstallation, using the appropriateinstallation instructions.

Disable GMR, as follows:

1. Contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center and have the service option enabled.

2. From the SMT Main Menu, access Menu 20 – Service Operations.

3. Enter the number for Drive Install Utilities.

4. Enter the number for Global Message Redundancy.

5. Enter the number for Reset Mirrored Drive Status.

The utility checks that the primary drives in the GMR pairs are running, then disables anddeinstalls all the secondary (mirrored) drives, resets the GMR flag, and reminds you to rebootthe server.

6. Reboot to have the disabling of GMR take effect.

7. Use the Drive Install Utilities to enable and reinstall the drives that were secondary drives, as necessary.

8. Enter Ctrl–C until the Main Menu reappears.

9. Contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center and have the service option disabled.

Collapse Nodes Utility

Some customers establish and use multiple node profiles for a server to speed up networkmessaging to a remote server. The multiline networking feature of Aria 1.2 makes this unnecessary.The offline Collapse Nodes utility allows you to consolidate multiple OctelNet (non-AMIS) nodesthat have the same node serial number and number of mailbox digits into one master node, if thetotal number of prefixes in the master node and nodes to be collapsed is 200 or fewer.

Collapse nodes, as follows:

1. Contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center and have the service option enabled.

2. Coordinate with the system manager to take the server out of service.

3. The Collapse Nodes utility returns to senders any outbound network messages left in thequeues of nodes that are to be collapsed.

If you know which nodes are to be collapsed, make sure that the networking queues on allnodes to be collapsed are empty, as follows:

a. From the SMT Main Menu, access Menu 20 – Service Operations.

b. Enter the number for the Network Management option.

c. Enter the number for the OctelNet Administration option.

d. Enter the number for the List Valid Node Numbers on the Network option.

e. If any nodes to be collapsed show messages awaiting transmission,wait until thosemessages are transmitted before you collapse that node, or use menu 15.1.3 to change theType of Transmission: field to 2 – Temporarily Disabled/Messages Returned. Use menu15.1.2 again to verify that the queue is empty. Contact the Octel Technical AssistanceCenter if you cannot make the queue empty.

f. Enter Ctrl–C until the screen returns to the Main Menu.

4. From the SMT Main Menu, access Menu 20 – Service Operations.

5. Enter the number for the SMT Debug Utilities option.

6. At the > prompt, type reformat, and press Return.

7. From the Reformat menu, enter 1 to select the Collapse Nodes utility. A screen similar toFigure 3-5 appears.

8. In the Master Node Number: field, enter the number for the master node that will remainafter the utility is run.

The server displays the Node Name:, Node Serial #:, and # of Digits: fields, with entries forthe master node and its mailboxes. Then, under the Collapsing Node Number(s): heading, inthe Node Number and Node Name columns, the server lists up to 20 potentially collapsiblenodes that have the same serial number and number of mailbox digits as the master node. (Ifthere are more than 20 such nodes, you need to run the utility again later.) To the left of eachentry in the Node Number column, a default Y appears, indicating that this node is to becollapsed.

The server checks that the total number of prefixes in the master node and all nodes to becollapsed is 200 or fewer. If more than 200 prefixes would be consolidated in the masternode, an N appears to the left of those node numbers that cause the total to exceed 200. If youspecify node collapse (Y) for a set of nodes that would consolidate a total of more than 200different prefixes, the utility will not run.

9. Change Y to N for any particular node or nodes that you do not want to collapse into themaster node, and press Return.

If any node to be collapsed has messages in its network queue, a warning is displayed on theSMT, indicating that messages will be returned to senders when the Collapse Nodes utility isrun.

10. On the SMT, answer Y to the prompt that allows the utility to proceed. The server collapsesthe nodes that have the same serial number and the same number of digits for their mailboxesas the master node.

The prefixes for the collapsing nodes are moved to the master node. Addresses of NameNetentries in the collapsing nodes are changed to reflect the master node. System andpersonal-group distribution list members having node numbers for collapsing nodes arechanged to reflect the master node. In voice mailboxes, all networked, returned network, and fax network messages that include node numbers from collapsing nodes are updated.Follow-me-forward mailboxes that forward to collapsing nodes have their node numbersupdated.

11. When the Node Collapse utility is complete, the SMT displays a completion message andgoes blank. Press any key and reenter the system manager password.

12. Repeat steps 4 through 11, as necessary, if more nodes remain to be collapsed into the samemaster node.

13. Remove any network diagnostic messages in the primary system-manager mailbox to deleteany associated collapsed nodes from the server.

14. Remind the system manager to establish multiline networking parameters to allow multiplelines to be used for network messaging.

15. Contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center and have the service option disabled.

Revised Enable Drive Utility

When you run the Enable Drive utility on a system drive in an Octel Overture 250 or 350 serverthat has two system drives, in order to ensure that the system drives remain redundant, the utilitycopies the software and database from the other system drive to the system drive you are enabling.With Aria 1.0 and Aria 1.1, even if the other system drive is not running, the utility tries to copy to the drive you are enabling; this could make both system drives unusable.

With Aria 1.2, if you try to enable a system drive when the other system drive is not running, thecopy is not attempted and the following new prompt appears:

Can’t enable drive... No valid system drive available.Press any key to continue.

If this prompt appears, you should press any key, enter Ctrl–C repeatedly to access the MainMenu, and attempt to shut down and reboot the server.

Revised Replace System Drive Utility

On any Octel Overture 250 or 350 server with Aria 1.0 or Aria 1.1, if the Replace System Driveutility cannot read the serial number of the system drive to be replaced, the SMT displays thefollowing prompt:

When you press any key, the Drive Replacement Utilities menu reappears.

On any Octel Overture 250 or 350 server with Aria 1.2, this prompt is not displayed, and theutility automatically disables and deinstalls the failing system drive, then proceeds with systemdrive replacement as it did for Aria 1.1.

On a non-GMR Octel Overture 250 that has two system drives, the SMT prompts you totemporarily move the system drive being replaced to another slot so that the utility can try tocopy the messages on this system drive to the replacement drive. The copy might not succeed,depending on the failure mode of the original drive. If the failing system drive cannot be enabledin its new temporary slot, the ERROR – Failed spin control. Press any key to continue. promptappears. After you press any key, with Aria 1.2 the following new prompt appears:

WARNING – Unable to spin up the original System Drive X in slot Y. If you continue all messages from the original System Drive X will be lost.y – Continue and install the new System Drive.n – Re-insert original System Drive into slot Y and try to spin up again.Continue? (y/n):

If this prompt appears, you can reinsert the original system drive into its temporary slot, type N,and press Return to try to enable the original system drive. You can type Y and press Return toproceed with the installation of the new system drive; if you choose this option, the messages onthe original system drive are lost.

(The Replace Message Drive utility is unchanged from Aria 1.1.)

Hot-Plug Replacement of Tape Drive in OctelOverture 250

Aria 1.1 supports an optional tape drive. After a tape drive is removed and reinstalled or replaced,the server must be rebooted for the drive to become active again.

With Aria 1.2, you can physically install the tape drive in drive slot 6 in an Octel Overture 250while the server is running. The tape drive is available as soon as it is installed. Rebooting is notrequired as it was for Aria 1.1. This capability also applies to a hard-disk drive installed in slot 6.

The tape drive’s red light remains on until the drive is accessed; this is not an error condition.

When you install or replace a tape drive on an Octel Overture 250 that has Aria 1.2 software, use the Installing a Tape-Backup Drive on an Octel Overture 250 Installation Instructions, P/N 181–1173–001; do not shut down or power off the server.

Hot-Plug Addition of a Second System Drive inOctel Overture 250

With Aria 1.2, you can add a second system drive to an Octel Overture 250 that has only onesystem drive without shutting down the server. This is similar to the procedure used with Aria 1.1to add message drives. Add a second system drive to an Octel Overture 250 as follows:

1. Contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center and have the service option enabled.

2. Insert the new system drive into the empty system-drive slot (0 or 1).

3. From the SMT Main Menu, access Menu option 20 – Service Operations.

4. Enter the number for Drive Install Utilities.

5. Enable the drive, as follows:

a. From the Drive Install Utilities menu, enter the number for the Enable Drive utility.

b. At Enter drive to be enabled [0–6]:, enter the number of the new system drive to beenabled. The server copies software to the new system drive.

c. At Enable drive complete. Press any key to continue., press any key to return to theDrive Install Utilities menu. The green LED on the drive should light.

6. From the Drive Install Utilities menu, enter the number for the Install Drive utility.

7. At Enter the drive to be installed [0–5]:, enter the number of the new system drive to beinstalled.

8. At Is this the correct drive? (y/n):, enter Y if the serial number shown is correct.

9. If this is not the first time a drive has been installed in this slot, the server runs garbagecollect on the drive. If the first pass of garbage collect reports any scramble codes or I/Oerrors, contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center. Do not continue.

10. When the installation is complete, press any key to return to the Drive Install Utilities menu.

11. Enter the number for the Drive Status option, and use the Drive Status screen to verify thatthe new system drive is running.

12. Enter Ctrl–C twice to return to the Main Menu.

13. Contact the Octel Technical Assistance Center and have the service option disabled.

Flash EPROMs on CCF Card

Before Aria 1.2, upgrades to EPROM firmware (code) required physically changing theEPROMs. With Aria 1.2, new firmware for the CCF card in the Octel Overture 250 is providedwith a software upgrade. The firmware is automatically upgraded at the same time as thesoftware, without changing any hardware. The CCF card and its EPROMs must be at levels thatsatisfy the prerequisites of Aria 1.2 (refer to the “Hardware and Firmware” subsection of the“Make Sure That the Correct Equipment is Available” section of Chapter 3).

If new firmware is included with a software upgrade, during the software upgrade process, thefirmware is automatically loaded to the system drive and, immediately after PIPL, to the flashEPROMs. The upgrade of the flash EPROMs can take several minutes and it causes a message tobe presented on the SMT informing you of the upgrade. It does not require any action on yourpart. The server then reboots, using the new firmware, and continues with the software upgrade.

If you ever install a replacement CCF card that meets the minimum hardware-level requirementsfor Aria 1.2 and that has firmware different from the level on the system drive, the serverautomatically installs the firmware from the system drive into the flash EPROMs and activates it.

This automatic upgrade means that the version of firmware that is actually in the EPROMs maybe different from the version printed on the EPROMs themselves.

Two separate areas are available in the flash EPROMs for two different firmware levels. If forany reason you need to revert to the prior level of firmware on the CCF card EPROMs, do thefollowing:

1. Shut down the server using menu 13.1.

2. Power off the server.

3. Remove the CCF card.

4. Move switch 3 on its DIP switch at location S2 to the ON position.

5. Reinstall the CCF card.

6. Reboot the server.

Once you have reverted to the older firmware, the next upgrade loads the firmware into the“new” EPROM area again, but this new firmware does not become active until you do thefollowing:

1. Shut down the server using menu 13.1.

2. Power off the server.

3. Remove the CCF card.

4. Move switch 3 on its DIP switch at location S2 back to the OFF position.

5. Reinstall the CCF card.

6. Reboot the server.

Aria 1.2 introduces the following new error messages for tape drive operations in the OctelOverture 250 and the Octel Overture 350, as seen in menu 21.5, Review History of Last Event:

Tape Drive Offline The tape drive was pulled out during a backupor restore operation.

Tape Drive Reset The tape drive caused or received a reset.Retry the operation.

Tape Write Protected The tape cannot be recorded on, because itstab is set to write-protect the tape.

No Tape Drive No tape drive is installed.

Feature Option 33 Name Changed from “MitelLimited” to “Set Emulation”

With Aria 1.2, the name of feature option 33 in SMT menu 13.7, Display Software FeaturesInstalled, has been changed from “Mitel Limited” to “Set Emulation.”

International Code Merge

Aria 1.2 international software (United Kingdom and Ireland) and domestic software (UnitedStates and Canada) have been merged onto a single master drive, eliminating the need to maintaintwo separate master drives.

24315 A second warning was added during the Reset Mirrored Drive Status utility to ensure thatthe utility is not performed inadvertently.

24491 The system now correctly handles the addition or deletion of a mailbox in a community thathas a damaged community record.
