AREAS OF REGULAR POLYGONSGeometry
Regular Polygons• These are polygons with congruent sides and congruent
angles.
• Apothem: A segment drawn from the center of a regular polygon perpendicular to a side of the polygon.
• Radius: A segment drawn from the center of a regular polygon to a vertex of the polygon.
ExampleIf ABCDEFGH is a regular octagon with center J, name
2 apothems ____________2 radii ________________
Perimeter of a Regular Polygon• The distance around, or P=ns where
• n = number of sides• s = measure of one side
• Example: Find the perimeter of a regular decagon with each side = 6 m.
Area of Regular Polygons
• A = area• P = perimeter• a = apothem
Examples• Find the area of a regular hexagon with perimeter = 36 m.
• Find the area of a regular octagon with radius = 10 in.
