Traditional fundraisers still have their place

They:  raise valuable funds for Zonta causes;

provide members the opportunity to socialise and/or introduce new people to Zonta;

help to raise the profile of Zonta in the community

Limitations

DGR 1: a "doing" DGR public benevolent institutions Universities environmental organisations cultural organisations…and more.

DGR 2: a "giving" DGR exist only for the purposes of providing donations to "doing" DGRs Includes public or ancillary funds.

A DGR 2 may not fund another DGR 2.

As a Community Service Organisation, Zonta would need to apply via a charity that has DGR status. Consider grant writing as a community service.

The pitch: making the ask

Personal solicitation far better than letter of request.

Research the company/person prior to meeting (why this project is a good fit).

Know what you are asking for: build a solid case for support/fit.

Prepare a written sponsorship proposal. (Check website for terms of reference.)

Outline the benefits to the company

What can you offer in return?

o Logo placement on promotional materialo free seats at evento company rep to present prizes etc

The most effective way to solicit a BIG GIFT

Person-to-person

Person-to-group

Telephone conversation

Direct marketing

Via the internet

In person-to-person fundraising, the ASK must be carried out

by someone with a relationship with the prospect to maximise the gift size.

The ‘best’ person is the one the donor will find it hardest to say ‘no’ to.

Host one or more small cocktail parties for up to 25 guests.

Ideally, invitation comes from Patron/Chair who will be in attendance.

Best case scenario: sponsor/supporter pays for catering so no cover fee.

Handouts: brochure/pledge forms.

The power of personal testimony! Client presentation or field worker.

Emotional fundraising

Provide enough information to allow the

prospective donor to respond emotionally first

…then logically.
