New pond construction with Tilapia fish culture
( GOI No.27035-19/2015Fy VOL ll under appendix-1 innovative activities)
The project is prepared under the guidelines notification GOI No.27035-19/2015Fy VOL
ll under appendix-1 innovative activities for diversification of species to enhance
production &productivity.
Introduction Tilapia has been considered as Food Fish of 21st century and popularly known as aquatic Chicken .Therefore, it is felt at national level that Tilapia would be one of the candidate species which could be cultured to address the food security in general and cheap protein requirement of growing population. The National committee on introduction of exotic aquatic species in Indian waters approved the import of Oreochromis niloticus (nele tilapia) and guidelines for import Tilapia has been reframed in 2006. A farmer friendly guidelines for responsible farming of Tilapia was implemented during 2011 . The culture of only all male tilapia or hybrid is only permitted in India. Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) has enhanced the culture as well as market potential as it is proved to be superior then fresh water carps and would be an ideal candidate for fish culture in India. Under proper management and optimal conditions, 1-gram fish are cultured in nursery ponds to 20 to 40 grams in 5 to 8 weeks and then stocked into grow-out ponds. In mono-sex, males can reach 200+ grams in 4 to 5 months, 400 + grams in 5 to 6 months. Dress-out percentage on tilapia is low compared to species such as trout and catfish. Tilapias have a dress-out of 51 to 53 percent of live weight for whole- dressed fish (head-off) and 32 to 35 percent for fillets. Object
Incomeofindividual farmer enhanced through aquaculture and vertical expansion for fish production and diversification of species to enhance the production and productivity. Project cost Project cost is Rs 13.40 lacs ( Rs 7.0 lacs for new pond construction in one hectare & Rs 6.40 lacs is first year/batchinput cost ) in which as per the guidelines of GOI ,Rs 6.70 is

Source of fish seed The seed of Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) will be purchased by farmer
through Fisheries Department U.P. from Rajeev Gandhi Center for Aquaculture Manikoda- Vijayawada (substation of MPEDDA). The stocking density is 3/M3. Output, out comes &Indicator
