Itching ears can drive hearing aid wearers crazy!
Most likely caused by a form of dermatitis that develops from bacteria or allergens
deposited on the aid, dealing with the itch by
using a Q-Tip to scratch it can make the situation
worse.

The best way to avoid itching ears is to address the
cause of the itching.

Make sure your ear canals are completely dry before
inserting your hearing instrument.
Don’t insert them immediately after
showering or swimming. Dry your ears thoroughly.

If you DO develop “itchy ears,” don’t use a
Q-Tip to relieve the itch. Too much
scratching can only irritate the ear canal and make the itching
worse.

A few drops of olive oil every day or two may
help keep the ear from getting too dry and also protect it from water.

With minor adjustments, your
hearing aids could fit better and your symptoms could
disappear.
