Editorial
The world of work has changed considerably in the past few years!
Today, it is estimated that 59% of employees work at home at least occasionally (*). For one employee in three from the younger generation of Millennials, priority is placed on the flexibility of the equipment, freedom on social media and mobility rather than on salary (**).
At the same time, the workspace is being transformed…
Since 2010, according to CoreNet Global, office space has shrunk by more than 30% and almost 75% of companies are organising themselves in a way that favours working in virtual teams.
Today, it is becoming vital to anticipate and accompany these changes.
To do so, consideration must be given to several developments:
• User experience: Working methods must be designed around the employee. Particular attention must be given to the availability of a personalised work environment that allows employees to use their experience to produce business results rather than simply accomplish specific tasks.
• Workspace: Changes to working practices also includes a change to the space devoted to work. Offices will gradually be reconfigured to provide open spaces and meeting rooms that facilitate face-to-face collaboration, rather than individual work spaces.
• Technology: As part of the digital transformation, technologies of course play a decisive role. Their adoption must include an approach based on mobility and ease-of-use. Employees will have easier access to personal and professional networks, knowledge bases, decision-making help and to the analysis of personal performance.
With this analysis of your situation, we hope to provide you with some avenues of thinking and some recommendations allowing you to build the workstation of the future, tailored to your business sector, your environment but also the challenges that lie ahead.
We hope you enjoy reading it.

Management & control
Value creation is not an important priority for your organisation.
Despite this, key measures have already been established and contribute to value creation. This approach goes in the right direction to the extent that all the analyses conclude that IT departments will increasingly adapt to changes to the business and facilitate or even anticipate new working methods. Why not go a little further and consider the following measures: strengthen the time devoted to innovation (vs support) by using simple and reliable support technologies, equip the most mobile users with hybrid technologies for enhanced productivity
The management and control of your IT assets are not among your priorities.
For many businesses, IT management and increased control of equipment have become important issues. Indeed, to deal with the multiplication of mobile tools and new uses, IT departments are adopting new approaches to save time and efficiency. Within your organisation, several measures have been undertaken in this respect. Why not continue this approach by implementing the following measures: optimise equipment management by standardising your IT facilities , strengthen data backup strategy
The user experience is not a priority for you.
However, the development of new working patterns and methods (anywhere, collaborative work, etc.) is transforming the relationship users have with their IT tools. An efficient experience is becoming a real productivity factor for organisations. You have established the initial foundations of an action plan to facilitate this change. Why not go further by using additional levers: analyse the reasons for dissatisfaction with respect to devices, give staff the opportunity to work from home thanks to mobile devices

Consumerisation of IT tools
With the “consumerisation” of IT tools, organisations are facing a real step change in the relationship employees have with their productivity tools. Increasingly, employees want to have tools that are as powerful and user-friendly as those that they use in their private life.
•To address this change, the IT department must learn to give more importance to the user experience and to consider employees as real “consumers”.
IMPLEMENTING GOOD PRACTICE
Facilitating work anywhere
The idea of employees sitting at their desk from 9 to 5 is now almost a thing of
the past. Indeed, thanks to new technological solutions and greatly improved
communications, working methods have undergone fundamental changes.
Employees increasingly organise their work virtually and remotely. They work in
different places at different times (home, hotels, etc.) and must be contactable at
any time.
The IT department is thus faced with a huge challenge: implementing mobile and
flexible working spaces while guaranteeing security of the equipment and
administrative simplicity.
User experience
Understanding Millennials’ needs
The term “Millennials” refers to people born between 1980 and 2000. This
generation has particular expectations of the organisations that employ them.
They want to be able to use media with which they are familiar in their personal
life. The technologies that are made available to them, become criteria of choice
when they are recruited and move up in the company. The IT department will
have to take into consideration this new attitude of a working population who
will account for 75% of resources by 2025.
The user experience and understanding uses have become essential for
developing new working methods.
They require the mission of the IT department to evolve. It is no longer a supplier
of technologies only but it must transform itself to provide support to users. In
this area, three underlying trends must be now be planned for: “Consumerisation”
of the IT tools, the arrival of a new generation of employees (“Millennials”), the
dematerialisation of the workspace, etc.
User experience
Reinforced mobile use
Innovative formats
Traditional IT is now giving way to “agile” IT. A pioneer in this area, Lenovo provides support to organisations by integrating the “consumerisation” of equipment, adapting to new forms of work, facilitating activity at any and all times…

Thanks to the new ranges of Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga,
mobile users can benefit from a new experience.
Particularly light, the ThinkPad Yoga allows you to work
anywhere for very different uses: work, customer
presentations, connections and creation.
Particularly suited to the new type of users (“Millennials” in particular), the computer can
switch easily between four ways of use: laptop, easel, tablet, and tent. The system
automatically changes the settings and locks the keyboard in place. The unique design,
the improved hinge and the touch screen of the ThinkPad allow you to rotate the screen
360 degrees and choose the mode of use depending on needs.
Power Manager manages the power settings to achieve
the best balance between performance and energy
savings while obtaining as much autonomy as possible
from the battery. This technology also allows energy
consumption to be controlled remotely.
The Rescue and Recovery function helps the user to quickly repair their laptop after
a crash without having to call IT support. They simply have to press a button. The user
benefits from self-recovery tools to help them make a diagnosis, get help and repair
the problem quickly.
The new Lenovo laptops include USB type C technology. This technology allows
connected equipment to be recharged more efficiently and provides faster data transfer.
Combined with a Lenovo docking station, this technology simplifies connections,
reduces space and can be used to connect to 4K monitors, etc.
Value creation
Value creation
Value creation and the contribution of IT to transforming working methods are not a priority for you, at this stage.
A proactive approach has been undertaken to strengthen how this issue is addressed. It is strongly recommended you go further in order to make tools and IT processes real factors of differentiation for your business.

(-) The level of satisfaction regarding personal computer equipment is too low
(-) No strategy exists to reduce power consumption
Provide support for the transformation of working methods
For several years, the development of mobile tools and access to networks under all
circumstances have had a tremendous impact on employees’ productivity and have
opened up new opportunities for organisations.
Today, the IT department must no longer consider the development of these new
working methods as a threat (management, security, etc.), but on the contrary as a
great opportunity to create value.
This approach must rely on two stages:
• Understand employees’ new needs and uses
• Integrate new technologies and services: tablets, smartphones, social media and
Cloud applications
This strategy will help transform the operational processes.
IMPLEMENTING GOOD PRACTICEIT departments are increasingly being asked by the business lines to provide more
value, provide support for the transformation of working methods, etc. Besides
making a workstation available (hardware and software), the IT department can today
contribute effectively to creating value by increasing employee productivity,
optimising the workspace and developing a green strategy.
Optimising the workspace
Current work spaces do not yet take into
account the transformation of working
methods (mobility, collaboration, etc.).
However, different ways of working imply
different spaces. Companies are currently
reducing individual workspaces. It is currently
important to change these spaces so that they
make discussion easier, encourage employees
to regularly change workstation, are designed
as a collaborative space, etc.
Favouring an
ecologically responsible
way of working
As a supplier of
technologies to employees
and business lines, the IT
department is responsible
for choosing green
equipment which offer
corresponding use and
performance.

TO BUILD
Société ABC
The digital workspace brings new potential for users (mobility and work anywhere, reduction of space, etc.) and is supporting business transformation. This workstation must be quick to deploy and simple to maintain and control. It must gradually release the IT department from time-consuming tasks which have no real added value (maintenance, support, etc.). IT can then focus on business-line and innovation needs.
Equipment management
IMPLEMENTING GOOD PRACTICE
Standardise hardware and software
Standardisation and ensuring personal equipment is uniform will, of course, make maintenance easier. Indeed, uniform IT equipment will be more easily controlled and, as such, faster and easier to maintain. It is therefore essential to regularly renew workstations ensuring that the hardware and software technologies are uniform and controlled in full by the IT department
Select the most robust models and brands
Maintenance and support account for a significant proportion of the overall cost of an IT department’s budget: the user’s call to the IT department, identification of the problem, work carried out under the warranty (or outside of warranty), etc. It is therefore essential to ensure that the selected workstations meet the most stringent criteria in terms of quality and ease of maintenance.
Automating software and update deployment
The deployment of workstations is an important part of workstation administration. The establishment of deployment processes and technologies can simplify and automate installations, allow remote management and configuration and improve workstation recovery after an incident.
Establishing a specific plan for managing mobile equipment
The accelerated development of technologies and mobile uses means that the IT team must implement plans dedicated to mobile users. This plan must be based on two main focuses: security and support.
•Today, mobile devices contain both professional data and also personal applications, so security risks are becoming greater. At the same time, mobile devices are more lightweight, and can be lost or stolen. Security must be strengthened and taken into consideration in a specific way: strong authentication, making Bluetooth access secure, etc.
•IT support must be based on the new issues facing mobile users and offer them an appropriate level of service: remote control, procedures adapted to the mobile equipment, etc.
Lenovo is recognised for durability and security as well as the ease of maintenance of its solutions. Released from low-value tasks (support, maintenance, etc.), the IT department can focus on innovation and business line demands.
The range of ThinkPad products is designed to deal with extreme environmental variables,
in particular temperature, pressure, dust, moisture and vibration tests. Each ThinkPad
undergoes 10 rigorous tests to provide a reliable system for various actual use scenarios.
ROBUSTNESS
