Display panel/measurement configuration� 4-digit rear panel LED display has

Through-the-lens or laser sightingThe parallax-free through-the-lens sighting with targetmarker and wide field of view makes it easy to align thepyrometer to the target. The target mark image in theviewfinder indicates the exact location and actual size ofthe measured spot. Broadband antireflection-coated lensesprovide an identical image in both the visible and infraredspectral ranges.

The focussing ability facilitates precise adjustment of therequired distance between sensor and target. The inter-changeable optics (close-up, standard, telephoto and wide-

angles lenses) can be mounted at the pyrometer's M42x1screw thread. The additional use of supplementary lensesyields more than 50 combination options, offering a highdegree of application versatility. Thus, one basic unit canaccommodate both very small and large target objects froma wide variety of distances.

Alternatively, the pyrometer is available with laser sighting.

Fibre opticsFor pyrometers with fibre optics, the electronics are housed separatelyfrom the fibre optic sensor head. A fibre optic cable conducts theinfrared radiation to the electronics assembly. The optical sensorhead can withstand ambient temperatures up to +250 °C withoutcooling. Due to their compact size (Ø 30 mm or 16 mm) thesesensor heads can be installed in cramped, hard-to-access locations.The fibre optic cable can be unscrewed on both sides for easydetachment. The sensor heads are focusable. A laser sighting showsthe true size of the measured spot and indicates correct focussing.An assortment of precision lenses is available for this model toaccommodate target sizes as small as 0.66 mm.

ARDOCELL PZ with Profibus Temperature measurement of a pour stream

Profibus InterfacePROFIBUS is a multivendor compatible fieldbus standard for a broad range of applicationswithin the fields of measurement engineeringand automation. Due to EN 50170 standardi-sation, PROFIBUS enables flawless data com-munication between a wide variety of networ-ked devices, regardless of manufacture. TheARDOCELL PZ Series pyrometers support thePROFIBUS DP and have been approved by thePROFIBUS User Organisation.With RS 485-connection, data is transmittedat speeds of up to 12 MBit/s. Up to 32 PROFI-BUS DP stations can be interconnected withina network segment. The use of RS 485 repea-ters enables the connection of up to 127 sta-tions, including masters.

A connection box with screw terminals, moun-ted to the back side of the ARDOCELL PZ,serves to connect the power supply line andthe fieldbus cable. The termination resistor isprovided in the connection box, therefore,removing a pyrometer from the bus systemduring running operations will not interruptthe bus line.

Spectral or two-colour pyrometerThe pyrometers of the ARDOCELL PZ Seriesare available both as spectral and as two-colour pyrometers. Whereas spectral pyrome-ters detect thermal radiation at one singlewavelength, two-colour or ratio pyrometerspick up the infrared radiation at two differentwavelength channels. The ratio of these twointensities is a function of target temperature.When the radiation detected is equally reducedat both wavelengths e.g. due to vapour ordust in the field of view, a fogged or dirty lens,or changing surface characteristics of thetarget, the ratio signal will remain unchanged

and the two-colour instrument willcontinue to provide a stable measu-rement.

The two-colour ARDOCELL PZ alsofeatures an integrated contaminationdetection function. The pyrometerdetects when the lenses of the opticalsystem become too dirty or the sigh-ting tube is impaired. If signal attenu-ation exceeds a user-defined thres-hold, an alarm will trigger.

CellaCast for pour streammeasurementCellaCast records the temperature atcontinuous and noncontinuous pourprocesses in foundries. The systemconsists of a two-colour pyrometerand a specially programmed digitaldisplay unit. A casting temperature isrecorded for each pour. The pyrome-ter's feasibility check as well as thedisplay's innovative program ensurethat disturbances such as steam, dust,flame formation or molten drip areignored.

A large display in the production hallcan concurrently show the tempera-ture values. The collected data canbe transmitted to a central data ac-quisition system. Alternatively, Cella-Mevis PC software enables tempera-ture profiles to be viewed in real-timeand saved to memory. TheCellaCast system is rounded off by aspecial mounting assembly which ser-ves to protect the pyrometer againstexcessive ambient heat and soiling.

Laser measurementThe ARDOCELL PZ 27 model wasdesigned for laser heat treatingapplications employing diode la-sers or Nd:YAG lasers. A purpose-built blocking filter prevents thelaser beam radiation from affectingthe pyrometer signal. With its high-resolution precision lenses, thePZ 27 achieves the tiny measuringspot which the application callsfor.

CellaMevis is a Windows based industrial softwaresystem for data capture and visualisation. It supportsthe ARDOCELL PZ pyrometer for real-time monitoring,analysis and archiving of recorded temperatures. Theuse of an RS 232 or USB interface enables communi-cation to a PC and allows the temperature data to besaved in ASCII file format. Measurements can be in-stantly displayed as a table or plotted online as atime/temperature curve. Data can also be exportedinto MS-Excel or other spreadsheet program for furtheranalysis.

PC CommunicationThe VK 01/C PC connection box can be easily insertedinto the pyrometer's connection cable during initialinstallation or field service. The simple plug connectorenables on-site connection in a matter of seconds withoutinterrupting operations.

To check if peripheral equipment such as the signalconditioner or analogue scaling is functioning properly,an output signal can be simulated.

With CellaMevis, remote configuration at a PC duringrunning operations is an alternative to setting parametersdirectly at the instrument via control buttons. Parameterchanges are effective immediately. Measurement datais not only displayed at the pyrometer, but transmittedand recorded at a PC.

The connection box is especially convenient when per-forming on-site test measurements because it enablesconnection to a PC in a matter of seconds. To providethe pyrometer with an electrical current, the powersupply is simply connected to the box, thus creating amains-independent data acquisition system.

FunctionThe CellaCap video monitoring systemprovides remote target monitoring andpyrometer adjustment from the controlroom.The basis of the modular system is aCCD video camera. The camera moduleis screwed onto the rear of the pyro-meter and views the target throughthe pyrometer’s sighting. The opticalpaths for measuring and sighting areon the same axis. The measuring envi-ronment as well as the exact targetspot become visible in the video imageon the monitor as a ring-shaped mar-ker. The system enables continuousmonitoring of the target area as wellas an alignment check in order to de-tect disturbances as soon as they occur.The swivelling/tilting device allows theoperator to adjust the pyrometer fromthe control room. This greatly facilitatespyrometer alignment in cramped ordifficult to access locations.

The camera module can be moun-ted on all pyrometers of the PZ serieswith through-the-lens sighting. Evenalready installed pyrometers can beeasily retrofitted.

The camera is equipped with anautomatic gain control (AGC) so thatit automatically adapts to the bright-ness of the measurement environ-ment. The aperture can be adjustedmanually in order to optimise theimage qualities.

The modular camera system can belinked up to the pyrometer as anautonomous video unit or as a com-plete measuring and visualizationsystem operating in connection witha PC.

Due to their modular design, the PZ Seriesaccessories enable a wide variety of com-binations, thus creating customised assem-blies to meet the requirements of specificmeasuring tasks and serve specialapplications.

The assembly PZ 20-024 provides totalpyrometer protection.

The PZ 20/B cooling jacket guards the instrumentagainst high ambient temperatures andmechanical forces.

The PZ 20/A air purge, the PZ 20/C intermediatetube, and the PZ 20/T dust stop combine toprovide an airflow which keeps the optics freeof dust and dirt.

The PB 08/K offers robust mounting and enablespyrometer alignment towards the target in anydirection.

Assembly PZ 20-007 has a flange mounting andprovides complete pyrometer protection. Thetarget can be sighted through-the-lens. Thepivot bearing of the PB 08/I ball flange facilitatesproper pyrometer alignment.

This assembly serves to install a pyrometersystem onto the outer shell of a kiln, furnaceor combustion chamber.

Even in severe industrial conditions, theseaccessories will guard against environmentalinfluences so that the pyrometer's "vision"remains unobscured.

The PZ 20/A air purge creates an air cushion in the PZ 20/Cintermediate tube. The air flow clears dust and vapour fromthe PZ 20/I quartz window. The hinge allows the quartz windowto be quickly and easily cleaned when necessary.

The PZ 20/M sealed cooling jacket guards the pyrometer againstheat, soiling and other environmental factors. The viewingpanel on the enclosure allows the operator to view thetemperature reading at all times.
