Our VisionArchway Programs enjoys a premier reputation throughout New Jersey for quality programming, sound business practices, integrity and ethics in providing educational, therapeutic and human services at or above national standards. We embrace a philosophy of excellence with caring. This is measured through quality assurance and improvement; human resource development; process and outcomes assessment; and professional affiliations.

Our HistoryFounded in 1965, Archway Programs is a private, non-profit human services organization serving people with special needs as well as typical clients, ranging from infants and young children through adults and senior citizens. Archway is comprised of three divisions:

With a staff of 500, Archway currently operates 16 programs, annually serving up to 2,500 students and clients in Southern New Jersey.

A Day in the Life...

As a member of the Board of Trustees and its current chair, as well as a trustee on the Archway Foundation Board, I am intimately familiar with and supportive of the services we provide to those in need. I am honored to serve this organization and bring a unique perspective to my experience as a volunteer and business partner.

More important, it is through my personal experience with Archway that I understand A Day in the Life of an Archway

consumer. My sister, Mary Beth, is a resident at one of the Archway group homes. As her guardian, I interact frequently with the staff of the home and those interactions have reinforced my belief in the immeasurable benefits and breadth of services this organization provides to individuals of all ages and their families.

My experience with Archway, both as a consumer and a business partner, provides me with a rare perspective into the organization. The amazing thing is in both relationships I am in awe of the caring and nurturing approach Archway has adopted in all aspects of its culture. My experience with numerous employers and many non-profits throughout this region has made me realize that an organization’s culture is critical to delivering its mission.

It is sometimes so difficult for non-profit employers to develop and reinforce a strong culture of caring, not only for the consumers they serve but also for the employees who carry out their mission. Archway Programs continues to offer something special to its clients and staff, giving them the tools and most important, the support they need to succeed.

People’s needs are never controlled by the clock, conveniently timed to meet a pre-arranged work schedule. Rather, they evolve naturally.

Archway Programs succeeds because our dedicated staff is there to respond to a need as it surfaces. Whether in the early morning when a young family is scrambling to meet their daily grind, or in the middle of the night when a group home resident needs consoling…we are there. When families need relief from the 24-7 dedication, and, yes, sometimes burden of caring for a loved one who cannot care for himself… we are there. In a time of mental health crisis… we are there. When parents are frustrated by a child’s failure to thrive… we are there!

Archway Programs was founded on the premise that we would always be prepared to respond whenever the need may arise. Since 1965, we have succeeded in meeting that challenge.

A Day in the Life will introduce you to real people within the Archway community – consumers, students, families and staff. We invite you to experience their triumphs and see their continuing progress in real time through this unique glimpse into their everyday lives. We hope that their smiling faces and kind words serve as a testament to our mission to successfully match services to needs – one person at a time, one day at a time.

Just Kids Program.

Just KidsJust Kids’ mission is to work in collaboration with the hosting school district to provide quality school-based childcare to children attending the specific elementary/middle school.

This service ensures child safety while providing a relationship building and child enrichment curriculum. These three elements - safety, relationships and enrichment - are the building blocks of our excellent service.

We have over 20 years of experience providing quality before and after school care in the public schools. Each program is licensed as a childcare center by the State of NJ. Just Kids serves over 1000 students from preschool to eighth grade, depending upon the school population.

Archway private schools for the handicapped…

Preparing our students to live independently is as important as providing a good education in a safe, effective learning setting. This goal is reached through a wide variety of support services, including:

› Behavior and Stress Management Techniques

› Physical Therapy

› Occupational Therapy

› Speech Therapy

All of our teachers, counselors and therapists work hard with students in these small class environments to deliver caring and effective educational services. They are highly motivated and continue to investigate new and innovative methodologies to benefit and maximize student achievement.

Since 1965, The Archway Schools have been meeting the special education needs of students throughout Southern New Jersey.

The Archway Schools offer a diversified approach to public school districts seeking out-of-district placement for students experiencing multiple, behavioral and autistic disabilities.

Learning takes place in a traditional school setting with a high level of personal attention. Our programs feature small class sizes, certified teachers, and a full range of related services. Students receive the personal attention and special education that all parents desire for their children.

Pre-vocational training classes, as well as work-study experiences, complement the students’ life skills programs.

Sarah’s parents, Kenny & Cheryl say...After several years of frustration with Sarah’s old education program, we were directed to Archway’s Lower School in Atco.

I made the call to Lower School Principal Sue Lafferty, and without hesitation, we set up a visit. Sue made it a point to have us bring Sarah along - that was a first! When we met with Sue, she happily answered all of our questions and offered to take us on a tour. Sue really made a point to include Sarah in all of this, 100%…another first for us! By the time we left, we had all pretty much made up our minds - Archway was definitely the right place for us!

It’s been over three years since we made the huge transition. There have been so many “firsts” for Sarah - Girl Scouts without mom, airplane shows, walks to visit the horses, school shopping trips, art and phys. ed, and music designed for children with special talents, cooking, swimming, etc.

With the communication and help of the entire staff, Sarah has been given an opportunity to become a more mature, educated, independent, and happy young lady. Because of that, everyone involved in Sarah’s personal life is grateful to Archway Programs!

the Lower School…The Lower SchoolArchway’s Lower School provides a wide variety of individualized functional academic and life skills programs for special needs students, ages 3 to 21.

The Lower School specializes in, but is not limited to serving children with:

› Autism

› Pervasive Developmental Disabilities (PDD)

› Communication and Multiple Disabilities

› Social, Neurological, and/or Economical Challenges

With this in mind, our students do not simply receive an education at the Lower School. Our staff work hard to make sure every child also receives all of the additional support services they need to complement their educational experience and, ultimately, succeed in life.

Nestled on Archway’s main campus in Atco, the Lower School includes:

› A Full-Service Cafeteria

› Large Gymnasium

› Indoor and Outdoor Pools

› A Serene Lakeside Setting, Ideal for Fishing and Boating

Guided by a caring and experienced staff, students have the opportunity to learn and practice life skills in safe, picturesque surroundings.

We believe that fun, rewarding activities – like in-school presentations and field trips – along with other opportunities for social interactions are essential components in any stimulating school program. Thus, any type of programming that helps foster

communication and social growth in our students becomes an integral part of the Lower School’s core curriculum.

As with all Archway Programs schools, we encourage families to be active partners in shaping their child’s educational experience. Our staff, parents and children work together as a team to support one another, ensure that each child is ready for whatever may lie ahead.

Washington Township SchoolArchway Programs Washington Township School has been serving the needs of special education students since 1989.

Our pre-kindergarten through 9th grade population consists of children with behavioral, communication, and multiple disabilities, as well as students exhibiting autism spectrum disorders, such as Asperger’s Syndrome.

At the Washington Township School, our goals are simple: we want to assist our students in becoming independent learners and successful problem solvers in any way possible.

In order to achieve this goal, we have specially tailored our curriculum to include sequenced instruction and programming designed to smoothly transition students into their home school district.

Learning takes place with a high level of personal attention from a fully-certified teaching staff, teacher assistants and one-to-one aides. Our small class size enhances academic goals with behavioral interventions and rewards designed to assist students to become independent learners and problem solvers.

Parents of our students immediately recognize the benefits of this unique curriculum, and graciously share their child’s own success stories.

Speech, occupational and physical therapies are also provided to students whose Individualized Education Plan (IEP) calls for such services. Individual and group counseling sessions are part of every student’s schedule, and a full-time certified school nurse and psychiatric services are available to address students’ needs as they arise.

Archway private schools for the handicapped…Trish Chance, parent of SarahArchway Programs Washington Township School has been such a positive experience for Sarah. For a child who has known nothing but fear and rejection, she has associated alot of negative feelings with school. But this program has shown Sarah so many new possibilities with regard to her own educational future. And with a child of this intelligence, finding the right pathway to success is crucial.

“The staff is to be commended for their incredible empathy, patience, and compassion! I feel this is a real turning point for my daughter – I have witnessed her self-esteem increase, her attitude about the future brighten...She has even mentioned possibly pursuing a career in special education herself!

Dawn Norcross, parent of Tommy D’Autrechy For the first time, my son is eager to go to school every day. His overall happiness and self confidence continues to grow every day. He considers Archway to be “his” school, and all the programs and staff have proven to be an extreme benefit to his continued growth.

Washington Township School…

At the Washington Township School, we believe that social interaction is an important part of every child’s education.

Important socialization experiences available at the school include:

› A Full-Service Cafeteria

› Town Meeting Room

› Life Skills Room

› Playing Fields

› Fenced Playgrounds

› Wooded Landscape

These spaces were specifically designed to encourage students to practice their learned life skills on a daily basis - all in a safe, secure environment.

Our students possess a real desire to learn – and our team of professionals is constantly looking for new ways to take learning to the next level.

Swimming lessons, educational field trips, and in-school presentations are just some of the activities that are offered at the Washington Township School to complement the core, established curriculum.

Cultural enrichment field trips to such local venues as Palmyra Cove Nature Park, Adventure Aquarium, New Jersey State Museum and Battleship New Jersey are particularly popular with students.

Through the continued help and funding from Archway Foundation’s Grant Program, our students are able to experience “learning” at a whole new level – with lots of creativity, imagination and, especially, fun.

The Upper SchoolThe Archway Upper School provides a wide variety of individualized aca-demic and pre-vocational programs along with behavior modification programs for special needs students, ages 6 to 21.

Children with behavioral, communication and multiple disabilities, who may also be challenged socially, neurologically, and economically, receive not just an education, but also additional support services they need to succeed in life.

Nestled in a lakeside setting ideal for such pursuits as fishing and boating, the Upper School campus gives our students the opportunity to learn and practice life skills in a serene, safe environment. Some of the campus features include:

Math, Science, Language Arts, Visual Arts, Social Studies, World Languages and comprehensive Health and Physical Education are at the core of the Upper School curriculum. Additionally, the curriculum offers fun activities and social interaction opportunities for all of our students on a daily basis, critical for any stimulating school program.

Students learn skills that will gain them “real-world” employment

through the Upper School’s Career Center. The School-To-Work Educational Programs offer students six “hands-on” workstations while learning the components found in all of the NJ Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards for Workplace Readiness. These programs build character and pride while preparing students for the future with real world job experience.

Positive EncountersPositive Encounters is a community based program that has a dual objective:

1. To motivate DYFS foster family youth, ages 8-17 to become active in their community.

2. To provide respite for the foster parents/guardians.

Positive Encounters is comprised of a team that coordinates weekly, age-appropriate activities that demonstrate:

› Personal Accountability Skills › Problem Solving Skills › Prevocational Skills › Team Building Skills › Leadership Skills

All Positive Encounters participants also work together to better the

foster children services…community through a variety of service projects. This encourages foster family youth, to become active ambassadors in each of their communities while providing some much-needed respite for foster parents and guardians.

From planting tress in Camden to cleaning up Cooper River Park, our participants continue to make significant contributions to the South Jersey region.

Each year, Positive Encounters forms a team to participate in Austism Speaks’ Walk Now for Autism. They work hard to collect donations and

early childhood programs…Step By Step Early Intervention Program Step by Step Early Intervention Program is committed to creating partnerships with children and families to foster and encourage the development of infants and young children with developmental delays.

We provide services through an integrated approach that includes

family and therapists working together in settings that are familiar to the child.

Early Intervention

early childhood programs…ServicesWe provide services for children from birth to three years old. Our goal is to work in partnership with families to develop and implement strategies that address specific goals. We believe the best model for success is collaboration – families working together with therapists.

Our services include:

› Evaluation/assessment of each child addressing seven main areas of development:

› Written Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) that is created in collaboration with families and describes specific goals, desired outcomes, and strategies to address the goals.

Archway’s Partial Care ProgramsArchway Programs offers two types of partial care services for children: a Youth Program and an Adolescent Partial Care Program.

Youth and Adolescent Partial Care serves children between the ages of 5-18 who have behavior and/or emotional issues that cause interference in their daily living.

Referrals to the program come from, but are not limited to, NJ Division of Children and Families, Child Study Teams, families and probation.

Program staff treat children and adolescents as individuals while helping them develop coping skills and social skills needed to function effectively in family, social and community settings.

Experiences focus on the core values of structure, consistency, caring and positive role modeling.

Clients engage in a behavior management system that provides positive reinforcement as youth work toward their goals, helping them to accept responsibilities for their actions.

This program offers children the opportunity to develop vital life skills, with a particular focus on the following:

Adolescent ProgramThe Adolescent Program serves children and teens ages 11-18.

This program provides intervention, strategies and activities that assist individuals in acquiring appropriate behaviors to re-enter the community.

ACT Adult Partial Care ACT Adult Partial Care addresses the distinctive needs of adults suffering with severe persistent mental illness through a group-oriented day program focusing on wellness and recovery.

Services include:› Group Counseling, providing

support for consumers in such areas as coping, social and life skills, anger management, relationship building, goal attainment and spirituality

› Case Management & One-to-One Counseling

› Work-Readiness Skills Training & Job Placement

› Education Counseling and Support› Specialized Groups, for consumers

over 60 years old and for those with a history of substance abuse

› Medication Monitoring & Psychiatric Care

› Social & Recreational Activities› Creative Arts Counseling, including

Senior Activity CenterThe Senior Activity Center provides a comprehensive program of social interactions and health related services to support seniors who are living independently or with family members and are in need of peer socialization.

The center offers a year-round day care program designed to address the special needs of socially isolated elderly persons 60 and over who meet the income eligibility requirements.

Seniors also enjoy a comprehensive Wellness Programs including health updates and blood pressure screening by a RN; exercise sessions by an Arthritis Foundation certified instructor; and visits by Helene Fuld School of Nursing students.

Programs for people with Developmental Disabilities serve consumers with developmental disabilities and their families by offering a host of program options to maintain consumers in the community. Referrals come from the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities.

Group HomesFor consumers who cannot live independently, we provide four group homes located in Williamstown, Medford, Voorhees and Atco, NJ. Currently the residents of these homes are all women with developmental disabilities. Group homes are staffed 24-hours-a-day with employees who assist the women with daily living skills.

Group home ladies participate in sheltered workshops, vocational training, or community jobs during the day. Nights and weekends they live with their family consisting of Archway staff and other consumers. Typical life experiences are enjoyed including parties, shopping, outings, vacations and bowling. Medical and personal needs of the ladies are met by the staff and local health care professionals. Each participates in the community as her strengths permit.

developmental disabilities services…Respite ProgramsFamilies of people with disabilities often care for their loved ones at home. Since this is a 24-7 obligation, caregivers need time to themselves to perform routine chores and get a break. This break time is called Respite.

Many families are provided the services of respite by trained Archway employees. Other families choose to employ neighbors or family members for respite services, paid through Archway Programs.

Summer Respite Summer Respite Program for persons ages 5-22, operates most of the summer at our beautiful Atco campus. Transportation is available on a limited basis for consumers in Camden County. Consumers enjoy swimming, sports, arts and crafts, games, and other fun activities. Referrals for the program must be made through the consumer’s DDD case manager.

Fun Saturdays Fun Saturdays is a drop-off Respite Program for people ages 5 & older with Developmental Disabilities. Recreational activities include movies, games, music, arts & crafts, parties and more! Participants are eligible for DDD Services and referred through the DDD case manager.

developmental disabilities services…Supportive LivingSupportive Living is for individuals who live independently in the community and require some support services. These individuals live in Camden, Gloucester, Burlington and Cumberland counties.

The goal of this program is to help these individuals establish and/or maintain their independence in the community.

Counselors work with these consumers on employment, housing, health and medical issues, daily living skills and more. These consumers receive between 5-15 hours of services per week.

R.E.F.I.L. Resources for Independent Living The R.E.F.I.L. Program serves consumers who demonstrate a need for specific services in order to achieve a greater level of independence.

The R.E.F.I.L. Program is not designed for those consumers who require intense and regular medical or nursing services or attention. Rather, it targets individuals who can assist in the planning and scheduling of their own support services.

Consumers respond to our dedicated staff with a unique eagerness to grow, determination to work hard and desire to meet all of their own personal goals.

Archway Foundation…The Archway FoundationReinvigorated in the fall of 2005, Archway Foundation, Inc., a 501(c) 3, supports Archway Programs by increasing public awareness and raising funds through private and corporate contributions to support the special needs of children and adults.

The Foundation has hosted a number of fundraising events including a Golf Tournament and Car Show, but is best known for its Annual Family Bowling Night. Since the first annual event in May 2007, this evening of fun has raised over $175,000 for the Archway Foundation Grant Program.

Since 2005, the Archway Foundation has granted over $320,000 to support such unique programs as:
