May Teachers of Sri Someshwara High School, dombaranahalli decided to provide students with

opportunities to study independently so that they build their self confidence. They felt that Students

would be more active and take the initiative more frequently when they receive attention and

appropriate encouragement from the teacher. Thus they decided to coach students studying 10th

standard extra hours after school.

Due to severe shortage of power in villages in rural areas of Karnataka, this programme was affected.

Thus R.K.Foundation has installed Solar light system at Sri Someshwara High School, dombaranahalli at

tumkur district of Karnataka. Specifications:

R.K.Foundation’s renewable energy project aims to improve the living conditions of students from low

socio economic background, in rural areas. Many rural households lack electricity and use kerosene

lamps for lighting, Kerosene lamps are not only expensive, they are also potentially dangerous and a

major source of greenhouse gases.

Although most of the villages are connected to the power grid, they do not receive power early in the

morning or in the evening because state power companies may redirect electricity. With the six hours of

light supplied daily by the solar lanterns with LED, study hours will increase, which will have a positive

influence on the children’s performance at school. Women are also able to perform their routine

household work both indoors and outdoors.

Eleven students from the villages of thovinkere, chimmanahalli & dombaranahalli have been supported

with solar lanterns with LED.
