3M Sun Control Window Films stop much of the sun’s heat

before it enters your building.

Window

3M All Season Window Films reduce heat loss by reflecting radiant heat back inside the

building envelope.

Measured by SHGC (or TSER) Cooling savings

SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) • Amount of solar radiation (energy) entering through the glass

How do solar films work?

Page 12: Architecture Presentation

Why Buy Window Film Energy Savings

Save energy/reduce cooling costs by lowering amount of solar heat entering the building

More efficient HVAC operation by reducing hot spot/cool spot variability Occupant Comfort

Minimize imbalances between sunny and shaded areas of the building Glare Reduction

Reduce eye discomfort and strain Fade Protection

Slow the process of fading (carpets, furniture, hard woods, art work) by addressing the three major causes of fading

Safety Protection Help hold broken glass in place Protect skin from harmful UV rays

Security Protection Safety and security films provide impact resistance in cases of attempted break-ins,

severe weather, earthquakes and explosions Building Aesthetics

Improve or provide a more uniform exterior appearance to the building

1) Passive system - no mechanical or electrical energy is needed to operate

2) No Maintenance

3) Peak load shedding (demand charges)

4) Total kWh reduction

3M Case Study – The Embarcadero Center

While Embarcadero Center’s five office towers gave tenants breathtaking panoramas of the city, tenants on the south, east and west sides of the buildings often needed to close heavy draperies over their vast windows to block the intense heat gain and glare when the sun was beating down during the day.

Before 3M Window Film

After 3M Window FilmAs soon as the window film installation project was under way, tenants began reporting improvements, says Murtaugh: “In fact, we even got a couple of calls asking us to turn down the air-conditioning, because now, on that warm southern face of the building, some of the tenants were cold!” Those energy savings are also translating into cost reductions, with an estimated $350,000 savings per year.
