The city main axes are joined with the place where the building
is placed, by connecting various dead end streets, that’s creates
a pedestrian pathway, which join the main sights of the area.

The project is located in the Indian city of Ahmedabad. It houses the munici-
pal organization, Ahmedabad Heritage Center, dedicated to the restoration
and rehabilitation of historic heritage buildings.
By using a 6x6 structural grid and staggered platforms, the building oers a
continuous space which can house a single use, as a conference room, but
the same space can also be divided through mobile elements to house dier-
ents uses. These elements not only distribute the space, but also allows us to
adapt the space to dierent light and shadow needs.

Like the Indian vernacular Architecture, The building program is organized
depending on the lighting, the function of each space is determined by the
amount of light it receives. The building is divided into, Protected Areas; they
oer a controlled and quite environment. This part houses the permanent
program, such as the oces. Intermediate Areas, these areas are protected from
the light and the rain, but are exposed to the street noise. This part is occupied
by permanent uses related to public users. Exposed Areas, these areas allows us
the exibility required for the diversity of uses.

Using a 6x6 structure and bamboo mobile
elements we are able to solve the part of
the program which is susceptible to
change over time. Through the use of the
mobile elements, we are able to generate
dierent shade conditions to t with the
uses to house.

Construction Details
The supporting structure is designed as an evolution of the same structural
concept. Elements or volumes are attached to a vertical support leaving the
ground oor free of columns. The structure is made of laminated bamboo
beams and pillars, with simple joints that allows a seriable construction.
The mobile panels, supported on the
umbrella shaped structure, are also made
of bamboo slats. They can be put in
motion by a balances and pulley mecha-
nism that is activated manually.

The Oces need of a greater insulation from the outside is solved by the use
of a double façade system. The outer enclosure consist of a porous timber
façade to lter the light and noise, while y the inner bamboo and glass façade
protect from the rain water.

The model not only represent the Project structure, It was made to maximize
the possibilities oered by the toll to use, the laser cutting machine in this case.
The model was build up without glue, tting pieces together thanks to little
grooves placed on their bottom or upper parts. Thanks to this, a faultless and
detailed architecture model was obtained.

The building is adapted not only to the material availability of the site, but also
to the Indian weather extreme conditions. The building distribution and the
façades were thought to allow a passive refrigeration system. An ecological
water system was introduced to solve the water scarcity, this ecological water
system includes a system to collect the rain water in tanks, so it can be used
along the whole year, and a sewage treatment system, which clean the water
through the use of a particular kind of plant.
Final Year Project
With this model we wanted to show this transformation of
the designed houses, which initially looked as a withe
sculpture on the desert, and has finally become a marginal
and unhealthy neighborhood.

The project is placed in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, on the Hay Moham-
madi lively neighbourhood. The building includes cultural facilities (associated
with the Spanish Instituto Cervantes) and a local market to replace the actual,
non-funcional, one. The neighborhood where the project is placed was a well
known architecture international project made by Michel Ecochard in the 50's.
Actually the white houses of the modern movement have been transformed
through the time, growing in heigh by unstable constructions .

The project works as a concrete skeleton, which is temporally occupied by food
stalls and clothes shops. These heavy structure gives shadows and allows the
passive ventilation. In contrast to this 3 floor building, we find the vertical
construction of the tower, whose façade is made of metalic mesh, giving it
transparency and lightness.
