ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO
SHRUTHI RAMESH
As a person who is significantly inspired by anything that resonates creativity, colour and design, architecture was the only obvious career path for me. During the course of my journey in an area of education that is so vast and eccentric, I have been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses as an upcoming architect.
It would be my pleasure to intern at your firm, to strengthen my skills and also prove to be an asset to your firm. With your firm's help, I believe I can get invaluable experience working on cutting edge projects and design.
A PROJECTT WHERE I PARTICIPATED IN THE DESIGN PROCESS

Most of the work has been manually presented, with water colour rendering as my primary mode of presentation. The drawings were done on sketchup for most of the projects and then printed and manually rendered. Autocad has been used for the drawings of the apartment project, which has been featured in this portfolio.

THE CONCEPT OF THIS RESORT IS BASED ON THE LANDSCEPE CONCEPT OF " REVEALING IN DIFFERENT STAGES" . ONLY AS ONE WALKS THROUGH THE RESORT WILL HE OR SHE SEE MORE OF IT. FROM A GIVEN AREA, ONE WILL NOT HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT IS RIGHT NEXT TO THAT AREA. THIS CONCEPT HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED INT HE DESIGN OF THE RESORT BY MEANS OF RESTRICTING THE PATHWAY TO AN AXIS,, BY INTRODUCONG LANDSCAPE AND LEVELS TO CARRY OUT THE FUNCTION OF 'HIDING'. THE DESIGN OF THE RESORT IS ALONG THE AXIS WITH THE COTTAGES TOWARDS THE END OF THE AXIS. THE RESORT INCLUDES RECEPTION, RESTAURANT, ACTIVITY SPACE OR CLUB, COTTAGES, SUFFICIENT SPACE FOR SERVICES, ETC. THE ACTIVITY CENTRE MAKES FOR A FOCAL POINT, INBETWEEN THE COTTAGES.

THE BANQUET HALL AND CONFERENCE HALL CAN BE ACCESSED FROM THE RECEPTION AREA. BOTH HALLS ARE OPPOSITE EACHOTHER AND ARE SEPARATED BY A WATER BODY. THE WATER BODY HAS A STONE PATHWAY OVER IT IN ORDER TO ENTER THE HALLS. THE CONFERENCE HALL HAS TWO CONFERENCE ROOMS WHICH CAN ACCOMODATE 30-35 PEOPLE ( ON TABLE) AND ABOUT 50 PEOPLE (STANDING CROWD). THE CONVENTION HALL HAS A STAGE, DINING AREA AND TOILETS ALONG WITH THE HALL ITSELF. IT CAN ACCOMODATE 200 PEOPLE.

THE MEDIUM SIZE COTTAGE HAS TWO STOREYS WITH A SMALL LOUNGE AREA ON THE SECOND STOREY , ATTATCHED TO A BIG BALCONY THAT CAN BE USED TO RELAX OR A FORM OF EXCERCISE. LIKE THE SMALL ROOM, EVEN THIS ROOM HAS AN INCLINED WALL TO ENHANCE THE EFFECT AND VIEW OF THE SURROUNDING ELEMENTS.
THE SMALLEST COTTAGE IS 7m*7m, ie., 49 sqm. IT CONSISTS OF A SINGLE STOREY WITH ONE BEDROOM , BATHROOM AND COURTYARD. THE MAIN ATTRACTION OF THE ROOM IS AN INCLINED WALL WITH GLASS WHICH GIVES THE PERFECT VIEW OF THE WATER AND LANDSCAPING SURROUNDING THE COTTAGE, ENHANCING THE EFFECT OF THE SURROUNDING NATURAL ELEMENTS AND FINALLY, PROVIDING A NEW EXPERIENCE.

VIEW OF THE COTTAGES
THIS VIEW PROTRAYS THE PLACEMENT COTTAGES IN LEVELS.THERE ARE DIFFERENT LEVELS ARRANGED IN THE PATTERN OF CONCENTRIC CIRCLES ON WHICH THE COTTAGES ARE PLACED, ALONG THE EDGE OF THEIR RESPECTIVE LEVELS. THE COTTAGES ARE PLACED TWO METRES INTO SHALLOW WATER BODIES WHICH GO 5M AHEAD OF THE COTTAGES , FOLLOWED BY LANDSCAPING. DUE TO THE GAP AND LANDSCPAING BETWEEN COTTAGES ON INTERMEDIATE LEVELS , THE COTTAGES ON ONE LEVEL CANNOT BE SEEN BY THE COTTAGES ON ANOTHER. THE ESSENCE OF THE CONCEPT HAS BEEN INCORPORATED HERE AS WELL.

THE BIGGEST COTTAGE IS 9m*9m, ie., 81 sqm. APART FROM THE GREEN SPACE AND INCLINED WALL, THIS COTTAGE ALSO HAS TWO STOREYS. THE FIRST FLOOR CONTAINS THE GREEN AREAS AND COMMON SPACES ALONG WITH A ROOM AND ATTATCHED BATHROOM. THE SECOND FLOOR CONTAINS ANOTHER ROOM WITH AN ATTATCHED BATHROOM THAT OPENS INTO A SEMI-CLOSED COURTYARD.

THIS BEING A RESORT PROMOTING HEALTH, THE ACTIVITY CENTRE OR CLUB IS A VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT. IT IS THUS PLACED IN A CENTRAL LOCATION ON SITE AND FORMS THE FOCUS AT THE CENTRE OF THE COTTAGES. THE ACTIVITY CENTRE INCLUDES A SPA, LIBRARY, GYM, YOGA/ MEDITATION CENTRE AND INFINITY POOL. THE YOGA /MEDITATION CIRCLE IS AN AREA THAT IS OPEN TO SKY, WITH HIGH WALLS. IT IS DESIGNED TO ACCOMODATE TREES GROWING TOWARDS THE PERIPHERY SO THAT WHEN A PERSON IN THIS CIRCLE,HE/SHE CAN VIEW ONLY THE TREES AND THE SKY.THE REST OF THE ACTIVITY CENTRE ALSO HAS INTERMEDIATE COURTYARDS TO BREAK THE MONOTONY.

APARTMENT DESIGN
SITE PLAN THIS DESIGN FOR AN APARTMENT WAS CONCEPTUALISED TO BRING IN A COMMUNITY ESSENCE BUT WITHOUT THE REGULAR MONOTONY THAT WE SEE IN APARTMENTS THESE DAYS. ALSO, THERE IS NO DIVISION THROUGH BLOCKS FOR DIFFERENT APARTMENT SIZES. EACH BLOCK HAS DIFFERENT SIZES OF APARTMENTS. ALL THE BLOCKS ENCLOSE THE COMMON AREA, THE COMMUNITY HALL AND CLUB AREA. THE CLUB HAS BEEN PUSHED TO THE BASEMENT LEVEL TO MAKE SPACE FOR A GREEN AREA ON TOP, THAT SERVES AS A VIEW TO APARTMENTS AS WELL. THE BASEMENT LEVEL HAS BEEN DIVIDED INTO PARKING SPACE AND COMMUNITY SPACE , WITH THE COMMUNITY SPACE AT THE CENTRE, WITH LANDSCAPING AND WATER BODIES AROUND IT.THE BLOCKS VARY IN HEIGHT, WITH THE BLOCKS TO THE LEFT BEING TALLER AND THE HEIGHT OF THE BLOCKS SLOWLY DECREASING AS IT MOVES TO THE RIGHT. THIS WAS DONE TO ADD MORE INTEREST TO THE APARTMENTS AS A WHOLE.

ALSO, THERE IS NO DIVISION THROUGH BLOCKS FOR DIFFERENT APARTMENT SIZES. EACH BLOCK HAS DIFFERENT SIZES OF APARTMENTS( 2,3 AND 4 BHK) AND EVERY BLOCK HAS A DIFFERENT COMBINATION OF APARTMENTS, WHICH GIVES AN INTERESTING CHANGE IN ELEVATIONS OF THE BLOCKS. THE APARTMENTS WERE CONCEIVED TO BE SPACIOUS WITH INTERESTING ANGLES AND LIVING SPACES, ENSURING SUFFICIENT CROSS VENTILLATION AND LIGHT.SPACES HAVE BEEN DIVIDED USING COMMON FEATURES LIKE LIBRARY, GREEN PATCHES. THE MOST INTERESTING PART OF THE FLATS IS THAT THEY HAVE LEVEL DIFFERENCES THAT ARE PLAYED WITH ALONG THE LINES OF THE ANGLES.

COLUMN PLACEMENTS IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE APARTMENTS FLATS (ALL TYPES) , THERE IS A LIVING ROOM THAT OPENS INTO THE DINING. THIS AREA HAS A LITTLE BIT OF A LONGER SPAN BUT SINCE IT IS A LIVING SPACE, IT WAS PREFFERED THAT A CLOLUMN DOES NOT BREAK THE SPAN. THUS, FLAT SLABS WERE USED IN THIS AREA. FLAT SLABS ENABLE A LONGER SPAN WITHOUT THE NEED FOR AN INTERMEDIATE COLUMN.

Survey and Statistics Route Description
In olden days, a state of repose or leisure was a part of everyday life. Even then development was happening, discoveries and inventions were being made, people were striving to achieve in their respective fields. Inspite of all of this, people still had time to stop for a few minutes, to appreciate something. This time of repose was not a necessity or a luxury, it was just a part of the way things worked.
Introduction
The pace of life has become so fast that there is no time to crawl, just get up and start walking. In times like these, 'time' is a constraint.

The Auto Rikshaw stands in hyderabad nowadays have their own ter-ritory, not aloted but asserted by their community.
The Rickshaw concept
Each territory is properly demarcated with a fixed number of rickshaws run-ning the area and the rickshaws of these territories, follow them sincere-ly. There is thus availability of rikshaws in all times of the day without delay.
Trying to replicate the same using Major public transport, like the Bus...
If the routes were cut shorter, and if the short routes or corridors had multiple buses running in opposite directions, in loops, then there would be availabitity of buses every few minutes. Thus, there is a guarantee that the wait is not long. These short loops, together, will form one big route. However, the long route will also have buses running for people who have to travel the whole distance.

The BRTS or Bus Rapid Transit System has a concept where a lane on the road is dedicated to buses alone. This concept has been bor-rowed for this design.
The left lane of all roads must be ded-icated only to buses. this ensures lesser confusion on the roads.
Each corridor has two major bus stops at the start and end of it..These bus stops provide required aminities for both passengers and the drivers like..
Major bus stop
Public telephoneDrinking water fountainCard system( for entry into bus)In the big stops, apart from the above men-tioned, there are also toilet booths.
The left lane dedicated to buses could cause a problem at intersections, u- turns and turnings. The buses on the left lane may obstruct the turn-ing of other vehicles as they wish. This can be solved by introducing a bus light on trafic signals. This will allow cars and buses to move separately and not come in the way.
Signal
Demarcation of busesBuses running in each corridor have a color that symbolizes which area the bus is traveling to. This makes it easy for gen-eral public to understand...
Corridor 1
This is where a person gets of a bus and needs to reach his final destination. If the distance is too less to take another bus but too long to walk, then alternatives such as cycles are being proposed, with the presence of a smart card. Thus one can take a cycle from a bus stop and return it back there on his way back. It will be like renting a cycle.
Last mile connectivity
Amenities in the busTracker system- This is an added safety mea-sure which ensures that the bus is on schedule and if not, it will help in detecting the presence of a problem and finding the cause.
Emergency buttons- These buttons can be pressed in the case of an emergency and this will alert the concerned authorities( police, etc.) immediately.

KUBUNI ( Design in Swahili)KUBUNI is an initiative that I and my friend, Gayatri Kondepudi, started together two years back. Kubuni is a company that we ultimately aim to expand into multiple horizons of design, primarily interior, product and fashion design. We design and sell clothes that are tailored to meet specific customer needs, rather than producing clothes in bulk and making people pick from them. We design clothes for women, men and kids.
EXTRA CURRICULARS
Apart from clothes, we have stepped into small scale interior design projects as well. Our first project was in a flat in Banjara Hills, where we were given the task of redesigning a room into a study and also renovating a store room into a usable family space.
THANKYOU
