Architectural and urban intervention:
stundent housing by the river.
Ribeira do Porto, the place where the city was
born, is a very touristic and picturesque area
in spite of its urban and social problems. The
programs are a student housing, an art gal-
lery with a tourism post and eating facilities.
The answer integrates the buildings in a public
space composed by various platforms that al-
low the user to relate with the river in different
ways, highlighting the scenic qualities of the
place.

30 flats
In this first approach to collective housing the
students were asked to design a residential
building in no specific site. The project con-
sists of three-storey houses that are organized
in pairs, each pair sharing a common garage.
These dwellings focus on a strong visual rela-
tionship between the kitchen, the dining room,
the drawing room and the garden. The bed-
room floor is much more private, the most in-
timate and quiet area of the house.

Collective housing: 200 flats in Monte Pedral
The exercise begins by the restructure of a
block in Monte Pedral, a city area that is un-
dergoing some major changes. There, the old
houses and streets coexist with contemporary
buildings and recent urban developments. The
new program consists mainly of dwellings but
it also includes some commercial facilities, of-
fices and parking areas.
The second part of the exercise was the de-
velopment of one dwelling. Inspired by L’Unité
d’Habitation de Le Corbusier, the building is
mainly composed of two-stored flats but also
has shops, offices and space for parking the
cars.

Hotel in Douro’s riverside, Porto
The program consists of a 5* hotel with a con-
gress centre and spa, on Porto’s riverfront. The
concrete of the proposed building harmonizes
with the granite quarry, evoking the qualities of
strength and durability. The bedrooms, facing
the river, have the luxury of a privileged land-
scape, highlighted by the austere simplicity of
the room interior.

Urban project for Leça do Balio,
from the road network to the park bench
The area is characterized by a strong diver-
sity and fragmented urban tissue. The start-
ing point was the creation of the Ideal City
Concept – what is an Ideal City for the work-
ing team? Afterwards we analysed the area,
devised a strategy and finally conceived an
intervention plan.
After deciding which actions should be under-
taken, we divided the area in operating units
and distributed them to the members of the
team. Each member had to make an urban
project for his unit, always in accordance with
the main ideas of the working group.

Thinking through drawing
The practice of drawing is essential both as a
method of analysis and as a part of the creative
process.

Taking root - Residency in Camden Arts Centre
Erect Architecture and artist Ashley McCormick
challenged visitors to explore the garden of
Camden Arts Centre and propose spacial
interventions that would change the way
how that space is experienced. My role in the
project was to create a 1:2 model of the site and
to receive visitors and help them in creating
their own proposals. Each new proposal would
evolve from previous ones, like the evolution
of DNA strings troughout generations. Finally, I
participated on the summary of the results.

2050 Developing the City
The physical environment of the City of London
has evolved over the centuries as a result of the
changes in how people live and work. In 2012, a
time of major economic and financial changes,
JRA & ARUP were challenged to imagine how
the City of London will be in 2050.
I worked together with the team to analyse the
area and develop the ideas and concepts; to
determine the graphic aspect of the exhibition
and to produce the material that would be
presented. It was a very fulfilling momento of
my life to see the result of our hard work in
display on the Walbrook Building.
51
Bush and Melbourne House - London
I worked on Stage D and E of this project. My
tasks included producing working drawings,
assisting with the finishes palette and preparing
brochures for the client.
53
BankMed Headquarters - Beirut
I worked on Stage C of this project. My tasks
included designing the basement and technical
areas of the building and space planning the
office area.
