The discovery of architecture through exploration was the most exciting part of this adventure. Our exploration started in Los Angeles, California and continued into Palm Springs for the week long event called ‘Modernism Week’. The purpose of the trip was to explore and discover architecture through first-hand analyzation of notable buildings.

Some buildings that were visited were: The Salk Institute in La Jolla Schindler’s House Eame’s House Walt Disney Concert Hall

This competition was created by Viva Vancouver for the re-design of the public square on Robson street between Hornby St and Howe St. The competition theme was connection of people and the surroundings. The competition involved a lot of design work as well as hands-on preparation, such as budgeting and time-line scheduling.

A lot of attention was dedicated to the comfortability, design and detailing of the project. Keeping a keen feasibility in terms of materials, budget and labor forces.

Our goal is to reinvent the heart of Vancouver by enticing passersby to gather in a spot that showcases the spirit of the city and people.

Through the exposed construction, physical connections are celebrated as design details. The modular arrangement encourages interaction and social activity among the community.

By utilizing the old Vancouver Convention Centre roof material, a connection to the city’s history is created. Combined with the use of innovative local products, Sweet Spot represents a future of reclamation and sustainability.

To embrace Vancouver’s industry, we will employ the diverse talent of local students and artisans. We would also continue to engage the public by auctioning off the modules, reinvesting

Producing videos has always been a fond hobby of mine. Starting from making videos for video games I used to play years ago for YouTube, my passion for creation of videos has evolved to expand more than just regarding my other hobbies but to creating videos for my projects and architecture.

The Ravine Dwelling was the end of term project for the first semester in my third year of the Architectural Science program. The dwelling project was meant to be a home for a single family within a rural setting. Located within Byrne Creek, Burnaby, the dwelling utilizes a lack of connection between the south and north side of the park: providing access to both while maintaining a private home underneath the bridge.

The Gathering Hall project was the final project of the third year in the Architectural Science program. This project is located in Burkeville, Richmond and the intent was to create a central gathering space for Burkeville, where there was lacking a central community space.

The primary goal for my gathering hall project was not just to create a gathering space for the community, but also to create a connection between central Richmond and Burkeville. The connection was created through a pedestrian focused link with the gathering hall on the elbow, utilizing the inner focused geometry of the elbow.

The design of the gathering hall takes advantage of the elbow in the pedestrian bridge and focuses its attention towards the separated performance stage. The building provides multipurpose spaces as well as lounges for gathering. The pedestrian bridge, inspired by the New York highline, introduces publicly accessible spaces such as a playground or rest and relaxation area along the way across the river.

The Strathcona Recreation Centre was the thesis project for my fourth year at BCIT. The project focused on the Downtown East Side, where our goal was to identify the resources lacking within the area and to improve the lives of the local residences through our proposed buildings. With a keen eye on the intricacies of the site, we carefully planned our class site locations to best benefit the community.

StrathREC represents the culmination of a much needed public community center combined with the supportive characteristics of an athletic center. The project assumes the role of a conduit for public interaction with its prime location and connectivity to its surrounding elements. The project also represents the City of Vancouver’s aspirations for the Greenest City by 2020 by integrating sustainable elements such as heat recovery systems for the ‘Seasonal Arena’. Introducing publicly open areas such as the shared courtyard, the Strathcona Recreation Center provides local residents with the social hub they deserve.

A large focus was put on the design and research into systems of the building. We were encouraging to explore the structural, sustainability, and mechanical aspects of our design as well as the overall detailing

This was a freelance contract job where I was hired to create renderings as well as a walk-through for the client firm. The reason for this was because the small design build firm company lacked the expertise to create the walk-through, thus I was hired.

The house was a multi-generational house with three generations of families, where the parents of the firm’s clients were design savvy people, but lacked the skills for reading and visualizing construction drawings. This created the need for a 3D video walk-through of the proposed design.
