Alper gained his M.Sc and B.Arch qualifications in Turkey. He then relocated to the UK in 2003 and has been practicing architecture in London since then.

Further to his healthcare and residential experience in the UK, Alper joined Sidell Gibson Architects in early 2005 and acted as a project architect in vari-ous office and mixed-use schemes concerning different parts and responsi-bilities of RIBA stages. Among the projects he has worked, the most prestigious ones are the Reuters HQ scheme in Canary Wharf, mixed-use heritage scheme in Greenwich, Crown House Kingsway office / high spec residential develop-ment in central London and UK’s largest Code 5 sustainable housing and retail scheme in Ashford for ZED Homes.

He has then founded his own practice, recently named as Kreado, in 2008 and aimed to bring his professional thinking and approach to some smaller scale design challenges for various central London contextual schemes together with his creative team. As a fairly young establishment, Kreado has progressed a solid route of achievements and gained some recognition with the help of its innovative thinking and managerial abilities. Kreado was invited to attend its first exhibition in Rome together with other young designers in late 2009.

Besides running practical projects both in the manner of design and project management aspects, Alper is passionate about bringing creative challenges to his career by attending various competitions around the world. WTO office building in Geneva, mixed use housing scheme in Finland, Dun Laoghaire Li-brary and Cultural Centre in Dublin, Future City Complex in Morecambe Liv-erpool and Nakdong Eco Centre in Korea are among the ones that he has challenged during his stay in the UK.

Further to his interest in competing design skills at international level, Alper regu-larly attends workshops abroad and publishes his articles in various architec-tural magazines.

Naohiro KIBAMOTO

B.Arch

Nao finished his architectural degree in Kyoto Prefectural University, Japan in 2008. During that time he was involved in various design competitions such as Docomo Ideas Competition, Kyoto Landscape and Smoking Spatial Con-cepts. While studying he also worked for Japanese architect as an intern.

After his graduation, he moved to London to join the diploma course of Uni-versity of East London. At that time his project was to design and research the connection between the urban block, including St.George in the East Church designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, and its surrounding environment. He successfully designed a botanical garden and small gallery for this site by extending the existing ruin.

In 2010 he started to work for the interior design company, Srossics, offering design as well as construction services. The combination of design and build-ing work was an invaluable experience. He went on to oversee the design and construction of a residence in Marylebone street and a restaurant near Bank.

Nao joined the Kreado team in early 2011 and remains an important part of the design process.

In 2003, after doing his degree in architecture at Wismar University of applied sciences in the northeastern part of Germany, Gunnar moved to Italy to work in a small practice in the middle of the Dolomites. The practice specialised in timber construction and sustainable design by using natural materials, where possible. Projects included refurbishments and new built hotels as well as resi-dential developments.

In August 2006 he came to London and started working for Sidell Gibson Ar-chitects (SGA) and registered as a fully qualified architect with the ARB within two years.

Since joining SGA, Gunnar has worked on several residential projects for re-tirement homes throughout the UK but focused mainly on projects for office buildings in London, Savannah House a refurbishment project near Regent Street with a construction value of £14M, 1 Bartholomew Lane, located in the City of London right next to the Bank of England with a construction value of £34M and Arthur Street, a vertical office extension near Monument, just to name a few. As part of a team of designers his responsibilities include provid-ing planning and production information as well as specifying materials and site coordination tasks.

He has worked with Kreado on several projects in the past and sharing his ability to communicate and coordinate his skills in the interest of the company makes him a valued member of the team.

Sarastro Restaurant

The project site is a Grade II listed building and comprises basement, ground and five upper floors. The ground floor and basement are occupied by Sarastro Restaurant (Class A3), with residential accommodation on the up-per floors.

The Sarastro restaurant, opened in 1996, has transformed itself into a theatri-cal dining space hugely welcomed by Londoners. As a part of its fame in appearance; the growing number of customers demanded better servic-ing. Therefore upgrading the kitchen space and staff facilities was inevita-ble. The new extension fulfills these requirements.

The design intention was to create a sober and simple structure to sit com-fortably within the existing quiet back courtyard, used mainly by residents in the area and not by restaurant customers. Only two visual connections through the windows of the kitchen and staff changing area link the exten-sion to external conditions.

This flat is situated moments away from premier upmarket department store, Harrods and Knightsbridge Underground Station. The client lives most of the year abroad and has selected this site to entertain friends and enjoy London in luxury.

Kreado was appointed as the delivery architects, collaborating with Atelier 5 in Istanbul, for the design to modernize and bring the quality of the new build to the highest standards. This involved rearranging the rooms within to optimize the space and incorporating the finest specifications.

Being Grade II listed, the property was subjected to many restrictions in the alteration of the interior. Much of the original features had to be maintained and sensitively complimented.

Upon completion, 73 Pont Street will undoubtedly become a comforting oa-sis for the client where he is surrounded by refined sophistication.

The project site is located in a quiet North London district where one can enjoy views of traditional British family houses with generous and beautiful landscapes.

The area is mainly occupied by a Jewish community and many of the house interiors are designed to serve their special requirements.

This 6 bedroom, nearly 400 sqm, house has been extended and fully refur-bished. It also consists of an enclosed garage, a large timber deck veranda and both front and back gardens.

The project is currently completed.

Kreado is already commissioned to design a brand new house adjacent to this site facing towards the beautiful golf course green where work is in prog-ress and the Planning Application is to be submitted soon.

42 Stormont Road

This project began on the construction site of a large 6 bedrooms luxury home in an affluent North London community. The client approached us with an idea to divide the plot of the large home to create a second plot in the garden that would be comparatively modest in scale.

The result is a bright 3 bedrooms house including a 2 car garage, front ter-race, study, kitchen and a “super” living room. A balance is achieved that accommodates garden areas for both plots that are in line with market re-search in the neighbourhood.

The design is mute where the principle street façade addresses the quiet and narrow road. At either side, the house is also modest and respectful of it’s neighbour’s privacy and scale. It is the rear treatment where the house expands into the garden and allows views of tall and mature trees to soar over the living room.

Light enters the house through the rear and also via a large roof light over the central staircase offering expansive views of the sky.

The entry sequence brings people through a humble front lobby, past the kitchen and stairs to the first floor. Soon the space widens into the living area that the client named the “super room”. The “super room” makes the big-gest impression, accommodating multiple activities and blending internal and external spaces.

Sofra Covent Garden is the first ever-Turkish cuisine restaurant to open its doors to the public in Covent Garden almost 30 years ago. It is quite recog-nizable with a lovely white frontage to Tavistock Street.

Kreado is currently looking into various elements of the existing layout to im-prove the space quality of this well-known branch.

Some of which include the replacement of the glazed roof to the first floor garden while designing a new atmosphere to the entire level. Also, Kreado is looking into new ancillary layouts to maximize productivity and aesthetic quality to the property.

Works such as new lighting to the entrance and removal of ventilation circu-lation system has been completed. Watch this space!

30 St.John’s Lane

30 St. John’s Lane is situated in the Farringdon area of London. Looking up, along this road, it is easy to distinguish that the surrounding properties have been developed higher and higher. In this context, Kreado proposed to the client to add several new stories to accommodate either offices or flats. Market research and design studies determined that the best combination was an extra half-floor of commercial offices and 2 stories containing resi-dences.

The penthouse was designed as a single luxury 2+1 bedroom flat that could be transformed easily into 2 smaller flats in the future. The flat boats fea-tures such as tall bookcases along the staircase, fireplace in a full story of living space, and a fantastic views to St. Paul’s Cathedral from a generous outdoor terrace which is set-back from the street.

The aesthetic aim was to blend into the character of the immediate sur-roundings. Materials were selected from the palette of the nearby Gold-smiths’ University building recently complete that is sited down the adjacent road such as deep boxed-in windows and cream coloured stone.

It is proposed to convert the existing offices into 4 no. one-bedroom flats; one of which occupies a new roof extension with a mezzanine.

The roof extension is to be designed so that its profile remains clear of sight-lines from street -level and is unobtrusive of sunlight reaching neighbors or public spaces.

Troy Museum

The task was to design a new museum consisting of permanent and tempo-rary exhibition spaces as well as education facilities, a conference centre and public realm spaces for the internationally recognized ancient settle-ment of Troy famed by Homer’s epic poems. The brief called for a building measuring approximately 13,000m2.

Since the existing museum site is situated in an expansive green landscape nearby archeologically valuable land, our main approach was to bring em-phasis to the ground level as a poetic threshold between the past, pres-ent and future. Therefore the majority of the program was resolved below ground, leaving only the exhibition spaces and viewing tower externally vis-ible as a light beacon.

The roof, embedded into the landscape, was designed as an open public area featuring folly objects and roof lights to create a physical dialogue be-tween above/below ground, internal/external, and history/myth. Thus cre-ating architecture that contemplates the meaning of a place like Troy in different contexts.

The building is strategically positioned to reference the unearthed temple of Athena, ancient settlement grids, and the immediate landscape of olive trees occupying the site. This context generated our strategy in a theoretical sense whilst dealing with practical issues such as circulation, ancillary areas, public/private areas, security, and so on.

The project is a detached house located in North London’s quiet residential district. After consultation, the client decided to redesign the upper level of the house and convert the garage into a habitable space. The design creates an efficient bed space layout at the upper level for an expanding family, use the ground floor bedroom for guests and convert the garage to a children’s play area and utility.

The aesthetic approach was to give a modern touch to a fairly big tradition-al house and streetscape while respecting the general character of both. Enjoyable and light spaces are achievable with clever skylights in the roof structure which leave the street silhouette unchanged. Slim timber aperture interventions are introduced to the front facade to bring light into the ac-commodations and give the street elevation a contemporary identity.
