…the science of graphic representation & solution of space problems

Fundamentals are based on the principles of orthographic projection learned from basic drafting courses

A versatile tool by which time & effort can be saved.

The size will vary as the relative positions of the eye, the projection plane, and the object are altered

A method of representing an object by a line drawing on a projection plane that is perpendicular to parallel projectors.

A single front view can show TRUE WIDTH & HEIGHT dimensions but not depth.

An arrangement of orthographic views on a drawing paper where any 2 adjacent views lie on perpendicular planes of projection.

Where the object is placed in quadrant I and views are projected downward or backward, away from the viewing plane.

Where the object is placed in quadrant III and views are projected upward or forward, towards the viewing plane.

Six basic views

Consider the observer’s position in relation to the object…

Construct a third view of a line

The outline of a view will always be visible, but the lines within the outline may be visible or hidden, depending on the relative positions of those lines with respect to the line of sight.

Which rod is on top in each view?

Dimensions do not matter as much as geometric relationships
