Linear project : Point indicates position in space. It extended to become a line which also parallel to its length properties, direction and properties. In this task, we were re-quired to produce a conceptual model made of linear elements to enhance the spaces. After few days of idea brainstormed, the “MOTH” concept was came out. The flying moth shape was interpreted to few rectangles. They were made of sticks which sprayed with a black colour. This was purposely done to symbolize the colour of moth. Those few rect-angles were finally combined to form spaces and intersected to each other. Intersection space between few rectangles was wrapped up with white strings for easy to identify the special space. The special space is an unique space where might has a different function from other spaces. Eventually, this project triggered me to find more about defi-nition and understanding of architecture. It was surely a mild beginning for the students.

planar projectPlanar project : Planar is created when a line extends in a direc-tion and has length and depth. The task required students to understand how the planar can form spaces and volumes orderly. Briefly, students need to make a small sculpture within 30cm x 40cm base and 30cm hight.Conceptually, the sculpture inspired by the “CATERPILLAR”. It consists a hierachy from narrow spaces to larger spaces that symbolizes movement from adjacent spaces to dominant spaces. Those adjacent spaces supported to each other and lastly created the dominant space. In a conclusion, this task opened up my thought towards architecture and gave the strength to digging more elements and contrasts.

Cube project : Cube is a three dimensional shape or form that has four surfaces and volume. It can defines by its measures and dimensions. This is another project that I need t o work it out dur-ing my study in first year. A project called “cube manipulation” was actually to train students to be more sensitive and creatie. Hence, it introduced students to additional and substraction terms in creating spaces. Followed commons requirements like the past projects in designing spaces in order, hierrachy and spatial organizations, this project also trained students in model making skills.Students also need to think critically in designing excitement spaces in the cube. They learnt the importance of additional and substraction elements in implement-ing architecture by using solid and void.

cube manipulationHybrid project : Architecture is an intervention of

hybrid at once object. It consists of few elements that combined to produce architectural spaces. As to get students to familiar with architectural terms and understanding, this task required students to make a small sculpture in combination of linear and planar elements. This was to enhance the impor-tance of spatial organization and space order in de-sign.Besides, this project was to ensure students to adapt all architecture terms that had een learnt

Double cube project : This project asked stu-dents on how to manipulate two cubes in order to create intersection space. Intersection space is a space that interlock in between of two spaces. In addition, elements of substraction and addition need to be enhanced in this project to produce interesting spaces.

Bandung Community Center was a first project under collaboration studios with University Parahyangan Catholic, Bandung, Indonesia. The site was at the corner of Bandung city which dense of population. The purposed of the center was to provide a place for the society to gather. The design was inspired by the alleys that become identity in the streets of Bandung which virtually to attract people from streets to so-cialise and do various activities in the center.Hence, the programme consists of cafe and restaurants, a cinema, multipurpose hall and shops. The design also enhanced javanese traditional element by using bamboo as facade main material.

Suhaimi Fadzir is a Malaysian leading contemporary artist on mixed media. He had won many Art and Architecture awards and has exhibited in numer-ous solo and group shows worldwide. As he as customer, the task required students to propose suitable work-ing studio and art gallery for the art-ist. The site is located in front of Jalan TAR which the place is hectic and busy. Although the place is congested with cars but less people are walked near to the site. There is still-standing old facade structure at site that need to be integrated in the art gallery design. The facade with Neoclassical architectur-al style is the leftover from PH Hendry Jewellery shophouse. The concept was to revitalise the surrounding by design-ing a gallery with unique form to attract more people to come to the gallery. The artist - Suhaimi Fadzir

‘HOME’ where the heart is“We need to give more, we should place them in HOMEwhich are comfortable and which still providethem love and affection. Chow Kit’s Adolescence center is a rehab place for teenagers around Chow Kit who are physi-cally and mentally abused, abandoned as well as homeless. This center serves as shelter and accomodate facilities for street teenagers to en-courage them to build trusting relationships in a positive environment. Educate them to maintain optimist and confidence by designing a center that gives feeling of homie. As home is the place where love is planted,it establishes a healthy and functioning family structure where the teen-agers feel safe, secure and love. The design also enhance the open space and green area to give sense of oasis to the site and phsychologi-cal teraphy. Apart of providing residentials, the programmes also include spaces for informal educational to fulfill them with skills to learn life independent and disprove negative perceptions of community toward Chow Kit’s adolescence.Shophouse is a concrete idea which form devel-oped as Chow Kit also consist of shophouses and commercial area.

‘Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world’-Nelson Mandela

Education is not only for rich and powerful persons, in fact, knowledge is as wings to a man’s life, and a ladder for his ascent. It’s acquisition is incumbent upon everyone. There-fore, to make Chow Kit as one of futuristic districts in Kuala Lumpur, it needs educated and intelligent community to help Chow Kit development. In conjuction,a new transformation must be done to change society’s negative perspectives about Kuala Lumpur’s black area. Hence, an ‘open air’ col-lege was designed not just to allow all types of Chow Kit people whithout any discriminations to learn but to provide a lifestyle center for people surroundings.

24

Page 30: Architectural Portfolio Part 1

‘Open-air’ concept college brings Chow Kit surrounding feels into the building. Hence, it is a hub for institutional and commercial to link between the community college and shophouses. This is also to bridge the gap between Chow Kit abandoned society and other community as well as to attract them to go to the college.
