SOLAR WEDGEWOODEN SINGLE-FAMILY LOW-ENERGY HOUSE

In collaboration with company Velux and Lumar we experimented with new forms of houses that would make best use of the potential of skylight and wooden construction. During examining the parameters of insolation, thermal conductivity and the building shape factor we come up with an idea of triangular building that has NS orientation and is also only on these sides open. This form offers several advantages: ideal lighting and heating gains, low heat losses due to little holes in the other sides of the building, the possibility of terracced building, adaptable to the terrain, etc. The living part of the house is a multi-floor space, which ensures good ventilation. It is suit-able for families with two children.

PASSIVE HOUSE IN PODLIPASTUDENT COMPETITION

The plot is located in village Podlipa on the sunny side of the slope. It occupies 600 m2 and has an angle of 21%. One of the prin-ciples of sustainable building is minimized intervention in natural environment, which has been a decisive influence on the design and position of the facility.Building on the slope is usually conditioned with the excavation and removal of the mate-rial. In our case, all excavated material is transferred to the upper part of the plot. This create two levels, which also defines general concept of the house: the upper part of the house with the entrance and additional program (in our case an office with a fireplace, which heats the room on demand) and the underground, living floor with com-pletely opened south side. Due to the partially excavation is the temperature amplitude within the facility reduced and thermal transmittance of the envelope improved. Also green roof helps to the addi-tional reduction.Upon arrival on the plot we see an object that symbolizes a small holiday house. With its small size it does not obscure the views, while in visitor generates interest. Under the green'' blanket'', that surrounds the upper building, are hidden living areas. They extend to the south terrace, offer users views in the nature and in the same time, the intimacy of an atrium.

PARK&RIDEDOLGI MOST

The facility is located next to the motorway exit at Dolgi Most, on elongated plot with 18000 m2 in size. It is designed as a hybrid building with an elongated parking part and 2 vertical structures. The main part of the building consists of 4,400 parking spaces, which are distributed between 6 floors (2 basement floors). Office building and budget hotel are because of the need for lighting divided into two 14-storey towers, that are positioned on the roof of the parking facility. Part of the roof is regulated by parking lots , that are covered with pergola and extensive greenery, but the other part (between the towers) consists of a park, which is serving guests and employees. On the ground floor we can find a supermarket, a restaurant, shops and bus and train station, which are connected to each other through the main hall.Hotel reception and business part have separated entrances and are connected with lounge bar and restaurant. Bus station is planned for urban, suburban and touristic buses and is regulated with circular traffic and waiting points. In the front of the build-ing we designed a park with lots of trees and a skateboard park, which are designed to shorten the waiting time for passengers with recreation.Parking part of the building is covered with framed steel grills, but hotel and business towers are wrapped with metal panels.Building is characterized with three colours: gray, yellow and red, which are typical traffic colours.

SUSTAINABLE SETTLEMENTBRDO

In the course of urban methodology we developed a sustainable settlement in Ljubljana Brdo, according to the principles of sustainable urban planning. The task takes into account principles such as: reducing the role of the car (car sharing), promoting public transport, cycling, and retreat of park-ing areas to the edge of the settlement, etc. The most important is the design principle of space, which introduces an integrated use of public spaces - shared space. The green belts linking systems made trough the settlement connect two large green areas in the surroundings.

SUPERMARKETSCHRUNS, VORARLBERG

Company Sutterluety is one of the leading supermarket chains in Austria. They lay great value on high-quality products, envi-ronment and support to regional products (‘’From Vorarlberg for Vorarlberg’’). The chain plans to build new supermarket in city Schruns, heart of Montafon valley. Prof. H. Kaufmann was asked to participate, and within the Department of timber construc-tion at Technical University Munich, orga-nized a student competition, where I had the opportunity to participate and succeeded with one of the best proposal.

Plot is located in a very rugged area, con-strained by the main traffic artery of the district, and two rivers, which at that point flow into one. This specific alpine location, surrounded by the nature and different levels of terrain, which is problematic for the market, dictate the interesting shape of the supermarket, which may also include other programs. Instead of self-service restaurants (Gusto) I decided to include independent restaurant, mainly because of the beautiful views into nature and an ambient, which is perfect for a luxurious restaurant. The facility is also adapted to the functioning of restau-rant outside the working hours of basic program-the supermarket.

MODULAR TEXTILE FACADE CONCEPTTU MUENCHEN

Through studies of experiments with bubbles of the famous architect Frei Otto and the exploration of modern materials such as ETFE foils and their materialization in modern architecture, I and my colleague tried to develop a new concept of the facade, which would improve existing solutions. We found that pillows filled with gas, have certain weaknesses which could have been improved if we could make a bigger cushion, which would be static stabile enough. The idea comes from the Frei Ottos concept of Infinite Surface (unendliche Flaechen) and is reminiscent of inflatable mattresses used for sleeping or bathing. Tubes that connect the outer and inner membrane give the pillow static stability and can be also used for fixing, ventilation, lighting, etc at the same time. Currently, the problem lies in welding/bonding of the foils, but research in this field is already being made.

CHV VEGHELARTS & CULTURE CLUSTER The council of town Veghel has approved the first phase of the redevelopment of the CHV-site to arts and culture cluster.

The old feed mill of the CHV set the stage for the new arts and culture cluster of Veghel. A theater, a youth center, an exhibition space, a com-munity center, art, dance and music education, a shop and a grand café are snugly puzzled in quality linear historical production space of the existing building.

The culture and food cluster are organized as two L-forms. Together they enclose the main area of the complex: the cake Construction. The cathedral-like space remains unaf-fected and is used as an event venue for all kinds of functions. Major pop concerts, exhibition hall, market hall, large presentation area and con-gresses provide a continuous experi-ence of this central location.

With use of cheap industrial and recycable materail we produced new usable spaces for different purposes and and retained the quality of the old industrial building.

ENERGY ACADEMYGROENINGENCOMPETITION

For the competiton of an extension of academy in Groeningen we pro-posed a building, which consists of energy efficient pavilions, covered with an energy supplying roof. This ’’pavilions’’ have a strong connection with surrounding landscape and offer a lot of different variations of interior arrangement. They are form-ing so called ‘’covered campus city’’ with entrances from different sides of the building. With intelligent con-ceptualisation, efficient integration of active and passive ventilation and heating, use of rainwater for cooling and flushing of toilets, a lot of green areas and consisting of recyclable materials the building is pleasant to work in and uses small amount of energy.
