Situated along the Arno River approximately 30 minutes by train from Florence, the town of Incisa required increased parking spaces, a small library, supermarket, music center, theater, retail space and soccer fi eld. The site is along the river on a neglected soccer fi eld with a road to the train station along it and an elevated viaduct defi ning its Eastern edge.
Looking at the variety of program and fi eld condition of the site, the design calls for a new boardwalk along the rivers edge along which a bar of program is stretched. This bar of program is then engulfed by the landscape creating a sloped roof/parkscape. Further manipulation of this landscape provides access points to the river, parking beneath the structure as well as opportunities for soccer fi eld seating. Along the boardwalk one can access retail shopping nestled between the parking belong and the library bar above. Light wells throughout the structure provide for natural lighting in the buried parking garage and engages all programmatic levels located within. The slopes and level changes create a kind of fl uid landscape one begins to discover by moving through and experiencing. By blurring between park and program a new center of town is created for Incisa.

E-WASTE RECYCLING CENTERInner Harbor_Syracuse, NY
Located in the post industrial neighborhood of the Inner Harbor, the siting of the center reclaims a large abandoned warehouse which has sat empty for years on in its location in the inner harbor. The square footage requirements of the project cut through the existing structures juxtaposing new and old in a symbiotic relationship. The new building rises up from the old one as an ominous metal roof accommodating all the required program under it. This warehouse allows for recycling activities to take place on the ground fl oor while a sinuous system of ramps and levels above allow for a public store and viewing platform.
The recycling centers intention is to not only recycle hazardous computer and electronic parts, but also engage the surrounding community by hiring local workers and providing educational opportunities for those who visit and work there. Furthermore the center also aims to shift views on consumer electronics from that of extreme and frequent consumption to a kind of (De)-consumption which recycles and updates currently owned consumer electronics rather than simply throwing them away.

SKIDDY PARK CENTERNear Westside Syracuse,NY
This multi-use project proposed for the Syracuse Westside combines a myriad of programmatic functions in order to add density to a currently isolated and fragmented neighborhood. The complexity of the combined programs is resolved by an additive process of attaching various programmatic needs about a central elevated library bar around which media auditoriums, gyms, day care and other programs collide. Below the elevated structure is a space for semi-enclosed public pool and public park which includes sports fields, vending areas and bus stops.
The Skiddy center, located next to Blogdett Elementary School offers an array of uses for the multiple user groups located around the park. These programs are centralized within this new environment to intensify community functions .

INDEPENDENT WORKOutside of architecture design studio I have worked on a variety of projects in different mediums. The projects in this section are either small competitions I have entered or personal work I have pursued on my own. While a majority of my graphic design and illustration work is digital, the process of intaglio printing is something that I have begun to explore as a medium for my ideas.
I have also incorporated some of the illustration techniques in my digital and hand drawn works into representation techniques for architecture design studio. By intersecting traditional conventional architectural representation with these different techniques one can achieve a richer more realized environment. For example the childrens illustration on the opposite page was a graphic exercise which could be applied to an architectural representation.

FoodSTAGE: Comprehensive studio collaboration with Branson Wright Winner of Archieve100.org Being Resourceful Competition 2011The CNY FOODCENTER celebrates the growing, processing and consumption of food. The FoodSTAGE is equipped with learning kitchens, greenhouses, cafeterias, and other food programs all arranged along an opened terraced level warehouse like building. The process of food can be observed from the beginning of the sloping building to the bottom where it connects with the CNY Regional Market.
COOKING: Physical act of food preparation is major component of the food stage. Each Teaching Kitchen is equipped with a camera and monitor to display the process of preparing a delicious meal.
GROWING: Community greenhouses and raised bed gardens provide space for locals to plant their own plants/ vegetables. Within the building there are also self-contained hydroponic greenhouses which provide a space for the physical display of food.
EATING: The Foodcenter celebrates eating through its openness and integration of standing tables throughout the building. Furthermore a suspended table dining area provides a flexible space for group meals.
BUYING: The Issue of food access in the city of Syracuse is a growing concern for many stakeholders and local community members. The CNY Foodcenter will house a grain retail space to provide a diversity of grain selection for the community. Additionally produce is available for preparation in the teaching kitchens and for purchase
STORAGE: The emergency food component of the CNY Foodcenter is a major grain storage root cellar to provide at least 6 months of emergency grain supply for the city. The green roof of the root cellar provides a public space for the looking into the storage warehouse and recreation.

Furthermore to facilitate sharing of recipes and ideas each unit has embedded cameras and monitor to display the action of cooking to friends, passersby or others interested in what is being prepared.
RETAIL_The grain retail space is organized around a field of suspended grain dispensers. This grain library allows for quick access to larger amounts of grain for preparation either in the Food center or at home. The Retail space becomes a display of a diversity of grain species which otherwise would not be exposed to urban communities.

_MAIN STRUCTURE of the foodcenter is composed of timber glulam spans at 15ft o.c with a depth of 3 6. This sturcutral model provides a large amount of spanning ability as well as the ability to shape the roof according to program, sun and wind.
_ROOTCELLAR STRUCTURE-Composed of a steel truss system, the struc-tural model allows for maximum storage space for an intensive grain racking system. The structural also must support an intensive green roof above for the public surface.

EXTENSIVE GREEN ROOFThin Layer of vegetation, approx. 4 inches of growth media. Provides reduced heating/ cooling costs via inulation and evaporative cool-ing.
INTENSIVE GREEN ROOFProvides deeper growing medium for diversity of plants and shrubs. Insulation for grain storage component.

615 OTISCO ST.Near Westside _Syracuse, NY
All design work done in collaboration with Guillermo De La Parra Laita, Kaite Lynn Carroll, under the Fred Stelle and Tim Stenson Design Build Studio in Fall 2010. All graphics by Mark Shahlamian.
The rehabilitation of 615 Otisco street in Syracuses Near West-Side has been an ongoing project I have been involved in since Summer 2010. The project is a collaboration between Home Headquarters, VIP Structures and Syracuse University. My involvement in the project began documenting the houses in Revit for the upcoming design studio in Fall of 2011 with Fred Stelle. After the design phase, in Summer 2011, I worked on completing the bid/construction documents to get the project out to bid. It is currently under construction.
The renovation for 615 Otisco takes an existing house shell from the early 20th century and reconfi gures it to take on a modern use for new families to move in. Re-thinking the existing typology of the two family house fl ats with two units stacked atop one another, our design interlocks the two units between two different levels allowing ground and second fl oor access for both. In a subtractive operation we also remove an area of fl oor where the units interlock creating a double story space for each unit. This light well penetrates through the attic bringing light to fl ood over a polycarbonate wall covering the stair rising up through this space. Our hope is to create a communal living/dining/cooking space the entire family enjoys being in.
Services such as closets, kitchen, powder rooms are located along a 3 foot space along the center spine wall. This provides generous space living activities through the length of the house without the need for interior partitions on the fi rst fl oor.

Existing Duplex:Over-under configuration- 1 unit per floor. Static compartmentalized spaces, upstairs unit has no access to ground, Challenge: How do we make units with functional, beautiful spaces without breaking our budget?
Proposed Duplex:The interlocking duplex configuration creates two different sized units within the existing shell of the house. This scheme allows for each unit to gain ground floor access and street frontage
Proposed Duplex:In the middle of the plan the 2nd floor is cut out to create a double height living space around the two units respective dining areas.
