Why did we make ArcSteam?

• Gumtree and eBay are great solutions for trading online and have both become very popular in recent years.

• However, ArcStream provides much improvement specifically to the communication system which is difficult to use on Gumtree and eBay.

• With ArcStream we have redesigned communication by combining an instant messaging application with the trading functionality of these websites.

• We also felt that the localisation could be automated with open data, as opposed to searching through localised web pages on sites like Gumtree.

What is ArcStream?

• We are aiming to make local trade simple.

• Via a built-in instant messaging client, we allow the user to contact sellers directly.

• Using the GeoNames API, the user can set a range that filters items based on location.

• Selling items is quick and easy, supply us some details and a price and we do the rest.

GeoNames API

• GeoNames is an open data set that offers access to postcode data from across the world

• We have incorporated their Java API into our project to allow us to filter the items displayed in the user’s ArcStream based on location

• Using the user’s location and postcode data for the users in our database, we can then use the GeoNames API to filter visible items to those in the user’s area.

Instant Messaging Built-In

• When you select an item to buy, ArcStream will take the effort out of finding contact details, using in-app Instant Messaging.

• Sellers keep track of the items they are selling using a tabular layout

• Each item you’re selling has an independent set of tabs; allowing you to keep track of who’s interested in each item.

• ArcStream is about simplicity for trading locally; taking the effort out of contacting sellers and the way we arrange conversations does exactly that.

Buying and Selling with ArcStream

• It’s quick and easy to buy and sell items on ArcStream• To sell, all you need is a

object name and a price. The Instant Messaging functionality allows buyers to ask for details, so there’s no need to write a profile on what you’re selling.

• If someone wants your stuff…they will contact you!

• To buy, you simply log in and a pane of items is displayed to you. Our Instant Messaging client allows you to communicate with the seller. So there’s no need to read profiles or find contact details.

• Just find some stuff and get in contact!
