Outdoor Activity
As the weather begins to cool, please be sure
to send your child with a coat, hat, and gloves.
Afternoon Pick-Up
Safety first! If you child is generally a car rider in the afternoon, you may have noticed we
added an additional staff member (crossing guard) at the end of the car rider lane. This will
help students and families safely cross the parking lot exit lane. Please drive cautiously.
We are beginning to recognize and match several cars to the correct students, however we
have noticed that only a fraction of families are utilizing the student name flyers. In order to
expedite the dismissal process, please continue to display your child’s name. Our staff has
found this to be extremely helpful!

Letter from the Principal
Dear Arbury Hills School Family:
Students are beginning the second quarter and as they
do comes the time of year where all of our homes are
busy. We begin to think about the upcoming
Thanksgiving festivities as well as the busy month of
December just around the corner. Our teachers
appreciate if you continue to take the time to go
through your child’s backpack every evening and be
present to help your child with their homework. Send
library books and Bookmobile books back to school on
time and return all paperwork and forms the next day.
The next month or so will fly by, so hold on, and help us
out by keeping a routine at home that supports your
child’s academics. As always, thank you for your help
and support at home.
Sincerely,
John Snipes

November is PIE Month!
Arbury Hills earns more money with every pie purchased through Market Day. So order your
holiday pies, order your neighbor a pie, order pies to donate to the Frankfort Food Pantry.
November’s Market Day pickup is Monday the 17th from 5:30-6:30 P.M. in the multi-purpose
(lunch) room. Place your order online before 11:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 13th for the
Arbury Hills SCO, #3148 pickup location.
Make sure you enter the school at Door 18 for pickup.
If you are donating some of your ordered pies to the Frankfort Food Pantry, just let them know
at pickup. You can leave the purchased pies with S.T.A.R.S. to be delivered to the food pantry
along with the pies from Pennies for Pies.
Arbury Hills annual Pennies for Pies will run from Wednesday, November 5 to Wednesday,
November 12. Classes will be collecting coins to purchase Market Day pies during PIE month.
These pies will be donated to the Frankfort Food Pantry for the holiday season.
Our goal is to donate 60 pies to the food pantry!
Parent provided Teacher Luncheon is Monday, November 24. The theme will be Soup and
Salad. Contact Lena Halawa to volunteer and bring in a dish for our terrific teachers and staff.
You can easily sign up HERE to volunteer for S.T.A.R.S. activities.

Tech Bytes
For the past month, first and second grade students have continued to use Pixie. The students
have been practicing their drag and drop mouse skills, as well as adding text, drawing pictures,
and adding “stickers” to their work.
The third and fourth grade students have continued to work with Microsoft Word. The
students have been cutting, pasting, and copying text while still continuing to use the Font tools
to highlight text, change the font, size, color, and add various text effects.
We also finished technology class this month with an interactive Internet Safety presentation.
The students pledged to:
1. Tell a trusted adult if anything makes them feel sad, scared, or confused.
2. Tell a trusted adult before sharing information like their name, address, and
phone number online.
3. Not meet face-to-face with anyone from the internet.
4. Always use good netiquette and not be rude or mean online.
Feel free to check out www.NetSmartz.org for more information for parents/guardians.
Students can also check out www.NetSmartzKids.org for another video “Router’s Birthday
Surprise! The Movie!” to review internet safety, as well as check out additional activities and
games.
Finally, don’t forget that students and parents can access
our online Math and Science resources from home at
http://www-k6.thinkcentral.com using the information
sent home in the password packet last month.

Physical Education Cup Stacking
Can you say: “I Stacked for a Guinness World Record?” Students at Arbury Hills School can!
The students will join other countries from around the world in an attempt to break a Guinness
World Record: Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day. The Guinness
World Record Day is November 13, 2014. This year’s goal is to have 600,000 stackers.
For the past eight years, Arbury Hill’s students have had a part in breaking the Stack-Up record.
In Physical Education classes students are taught how to Sport Stack. Sport Stacking with Speed
Stacks is an exciting individual and team sport where participants of all ages and abilities stack
and unstack specially designed cups in specific patterns. Please cheer on the Arbury Hills
Students on November 13 as they attempt to break the Guinness World Record. Students
below are: Alyson Orth, Matthew Ni, Olivia Jung, and Dylan Vladika.
History Club
The Arbury Hills School History Club is off to a great start. The students learned about George
Washington Carver, a southern scientist and farmer, who invented many uses of the peanut.
Students observed a peanut plant and read biographical facts about Mr. Carver. Pictured in the
back row left to right are club members Matthew Ni, Jenan Halawa, Nicole Einoder, Emily
Richter, Logan Gannon, and Jacob Kustak. Pictured in the front row left to right are Hunter
Williams, Jack Unick, Rowan Stec, Kate Hickey, Brooklen Weckler, and Sean Eckert.

Ghostly Notes from the Music Room
Ghostly Notes from the Music Room and Mrs. Binzen (alias: Corpse Bride, Maleficent, Phantom of the Opera, and Lego Lady!) Vampire Vocalizes, Zombie Zumba, Scary Songs, and Ghoulish Games are just some of the activities that crept into the music room! We have “Fallen” for the month of October and now we can’t wait to begin rehearsing for the Winter Program. We will change from singing the chilling BOO! to the jingling of BELLS!
Art Update
Students are finished with their first projects of the year. I will be teaming up with “Art to
Remember” again to offer family and friends different keepsakes with your child's artwork on it
that may be purchased. These are perfect for the holidays, especially for that person who is so
hard to buy for! Please look for a flyer with your student's artwork and a brochure listing items
that can be purchased. All proceeds from this fundraiser go right back into our art program to
fund our expensive supplies! Orders will be due on Thursday, November 13. If you have any
questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. You
may also refer to the Art to Remember website for more information:
