Learn:
Let’s talk about roots again. Remember from our colors lessons, we learned that
Arabic words have root letters in them that can usually help us unlock an
approximate meaning of new words.
In this lesson, we are going to take a look two roots:
سرد بتكَ
Write the words from your list that contain these letters:
_______________________________________________________________
Darasa, the verb on the left, means “to study.” Madrasah, school, is a place where you study.
Kataba, the verb on the right, means “to write.” A book is a thing that is written, and a desk is where you
write.
So, if you come across a word with these roots, you may be able to figure out, along with the context
it’s used in, what the word means.
Your Arabic Notebook Let’s talk about organizing your Arabic notebook so you can review efficiently, insha Allah. You will want to have a vocabulary
section that is arranged by categories, like our lessons, so that you can find words quickly. Secondly, you should have a word
roots section, which lists the root letter combinations that we go over. For this section, fold your paper in half lengthwise.
Write the Arabic root letter combination on the right, and then the English translation on the left. This way, you can quiz
yourself easily, insha Allah. You might also like to have a phrases section as we will learn simple phrases related to your
words, insha Allah. Fold your paper in half, as before, for this section.
