Village LocationNestled in the North Woods near Bemidji, Minn., Al-Wāha is located at one of our permanent village sites, and offers its own amenities and realia to make the site feel authentic.
Every day is like a new adventure abroad
Participants become "villagers" and live in the language and culture from the moment they wake up to the close of the day.

Village is for young people who love the
mystery and history of northern Africa
and the Middle East. Learn to read
and write modern standard Arabic

conversations, tailored for your

future and possibly connect with your
past if your ancestors came from the
Arabic-speaking world. Plus, if
you speak Arabic, you're in
good company: there are
more than 300 million
Arabic-speaking people
worldwide, and it is one of
the six official languages of
the United Nations.
Life at Al-Waha
Life at Al-Wāha is infused with Arabic. Counselors from the United States and Arabic-speaking countries engage in real-life language use with villagers and share experiences using vocabulary, repetition, and actions to increase understanding and retention.

Camp Activities Can Include:
Fantastic Arabic Food
Spices from North Africa and the Arabic-speaking countries will have your mouth watering! At Al-Wāha your menus will include authentic and beautiful food served family style and will include everything from gyros, schwarma, and tabouleh to hoummous, falafel kofta and kebabs.
Special Programs
Al-Wāha offers summer youth
programs, such as one or two week
programs or a four week high school
credit program. Day camps for children
ages 6-11 are also available.
