Unique knockdown and long lasting water-based insecticide for space spray

Aqua Reslin® Super is a unique water-based space spray concentrate (oil in water emulsion) speciallydesigned for dilution with water only and applied by ultra low volume - ULV (aerial or vehicle mountedapplication techniques), thermal fogging (hand-held fogging machines) or misting techniques.

Water – the natural diluent

Water is the natural choice for the diluent for spacesprays, particularly in the light of increased concernabout the use of diesel. But water-dilutable emulsifiableconcentrate (EC) formulations have a disadvantage interms of poorer insecticidal performance in compa-rison with diesel or oil-diluted products. This is theresult of evaporation of water (which is more volatilethan diesel) from the spray, leaving droplets which aretoo small for efficient impaction on the insect. Water is also ready available, environmentally accep-table and cheap.

Patented Aqua technology

The Film Forming Aqueous Spray Technology (FFAST®)is a unique patented formulation system which allowsthe use of water as the diluent without the normaldrawbacks of evaporation. The principle behind FFAST® is simple yet extremelyeffective. As each droplet is formed, long chain alcoholmolecules rapidly migrate to the surface where theyalign to form a protective skin. This gives a sealedpackage of water-based insecticide, thereby retardingevaporation and greatly extending the effective rangeof the spray.

Aqua Reslin® Super benefits

Aqua Reslin® Super combines an EW formulation andthe FFAST® technology which allows water as diluentwith a good efficacy. The key result of this is that AquaReslin® Super provides long-lasting effective dropletsin all climatic conditions and is as effective as oil/dieseldiluted space spray concentrates when sprayed atequivalent active ingredient rates. Water forms 64% (by weight) of the concentrate whichas a consequence is classified as non-hazardous. It isa clear, white, free flowing liquid. Aqua Reslin® Super is completely acceptable in use, auser friendly concentrate producing a space spray that

minimises flammability, smell, staining, paintworkdamage, toxicological risk and pollution.

Effective and protected droplets

Ultra Low Volume space spraying minimises theamount of insecticide spray which needs to beapplied, with Aqua Reslin® Super this is as little as halfa litre per hectare.This quantity, when correctly applied, will providearound 400 billion droplets, or one and a half milliondroplets in each cubic metre of air in the treated area.This is more than enough PROVIDED the dropletsmaintain the correct size to ensure a long lastingaerosol life and effective impaction on the insect pests.It is here that the unique Aqua formulation develop-ment from Bayer comes into effect. As each droplet isformed the evaporation retardant alcohol moleculesinstantly migrate to the surface where they align and bondtogether to form a protective skin inhibiting evaporation.Field trials and control operations carried out under avariety of climatic conditions, in West Africa, Spain,South East Asia and the Middle East, have clearlydemonstrated improved droplet characteristics andeffective insect control.

Impact on the environment

Aqua Res l i n ® Super s ign i f i can t l y reducesenvironmental pollution because the formulation iswater-based and water-di luted. The act iveingredients permethrin and esbioallethrin are rapidlydegraded in the natural environment and the lowdosage rates again contribute to a reduction inenvironmental contamination.

Aqua Reslin® Super contains biodegradable pyrethroids;permethrin with its exceptional killing properties andesbioallethrin associated with hyperactivation of targetinsects, increased uptake of the insecticidal spray andrapid knockdown.These pyrethroids are synergised to produce greateractivity by the inclusion of piperonyl butoxide whichinactivates the detoxification systems in the insects.This balanced formulation gives effective insect controlwith minimal hazard to man and his environment. The extensive use of water as the base carrier anddiluent reduces chemical contamination and eliminatesfire risk, this is especially useful for indoor or aerialspraying.

Maximised uses

The versatility of Aqua Reslin® Super means that it isthe only product needed to meet all ULV insecticiderequirements, ranging from indoor treatments to largescale ground or even aerial spraying applications.

Method of use

Aqua Reslin® Super is diluted with water and appliedas a mist, thermal fog or ULV aerosol spray. For ULVaerosol applications, the generator should be capableof producing a distribution of droplets with a volumemedian diameter (VMD) value of 25 microns.

Application rates

In case of indoor treatments, remove all pets andfoodstuffs from the room and cover all surfaces usedfor food preparation. Turn off the electricity.

General pest control:For the control of crawling insects,such as cockroaches andstored products beetles, direct the mist, fogor ULV aerosol at likely insect harbouragesto obtain good penetration.The required dilution rate andapplication rate depends on:• the target species,

• the application technique and,• the site of application.

Safety Advice

• Wear suitable protective clothing when handling theproduct (e.g. coveralls, eye protection (faceshield), andgloves) and when applying the product (e.g. coveralls,gloves, goggles and spray mask).• Avoid working in spraymist or wear a spray maskand suitable protectiveclothing.• When spraying indoorsexc lude pe rsons andanimals during treatment,and ventilate treated areasthoroughly after treatment.• Wash splashes from skin or eyes immediately withplenty of water.• Wash hands and exposed skin before eating,drinking or smoking and after work.• Mechanical sprayers can be noisy. The use of earprotection is recommended when spraying indoors or inother enclosed places.• Do not spray the moving parts of any machinery,electric motors and switchgear.• Remove heavily contaminated clothing immediatelyand wash before re-use.• Do not apply directly to surfaces on which food isstored, prepared or eaten.• Protect food, food-preparing equipment and eatingutensils from contamination during application.• Toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Do not contami-nate ponds, waterways or ditches with chemical orused container.• Keep out of reach of children.• Keep only in original container, tightly closed, in asafe place.• Wash out used container thoroughly and dispose ofsafely.

First Aid measures in case of exposure

Contact with skinTake off all contaminated clothing immediately. Wash with soap and plenty ofwater. Apply Vitamin E cream or simple lotions. When symptoms persist or inall cases of doubt, seek medical advice immediately.

Contact with eyesRinse immediately with plenty of water and seek advice from an ophthalmologist.

In case of inhalationRemove to fresh air. Keep patient at rest. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

In case of ingestionWash out mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Keep patient at rest.Seek medical advice immediately.

Local treatmentInitial treatment should be symptomatic and supportive.

After eye contactInstillation of local anaesthetic drops e.g. 1% Amethocaine Hydrochloride eye drops. Give Analgesics as necessary.

Systemic treatmentEndotracheal intubation should be done and gastric lavage performed,followed by administration of charcoal. Monitoring of respiratory and cardiac functions ECG - monitoring(Electrocardiogram). Check for pulmonary oedema in event of inhalation. Keep airway clear,administer artificial respiration if necessary.

Against convulsionsGive diazepam: for adults 5-10 mg intravenously as necessary until fullysedated; for children 2.5 mg i.v. There is no antidote. Contraindication: atropine. Contraindication: derivatives of adrenalineRecovery: spontaneous.
