British Council Initiative

How C4C WorksClimate4Classrooms (C4C)

C4C is an innovative set of educational resources aboutClimate Change for teachers and students (from age11+).

C4C Components:

C4C resources comprise 12 modules.- Modules 1-5 introduce core climate science and are the

same for each country.

- Modules 6-12 are known as the 'National Futures' andare based on evidence of Climate Change projectedthrough various predictive models.

C4C Outcomes:

- Since November 2011, 120+ teachers from 60 districtshave been involved with C4C.

- 19,000+ students from different schools have beeninformed about C4C through a postcard competition.

- More than 83 schools benefited from C4C throughintroductory workshops.

- 50,000+ people from 64 districts were introduced toC4C through “3000 Miles To Go”

Green Channel Initiatives

Project Trash PatrolEnviVolunteerism

EnviVolunteerism, essentially aimed to create awarenessamongo the youth about making environmentally andsocially responsible choices in everyday life

Components:1. EnviLearning – a 2 day workshop that included inspiring

speeches on “volunteerism” by the concerned people

2. Envi-Vlunteering – a 2 day Banani Lake clean up whereabout 400 volunteers helped out and 600 sacs of trashwas collected that were properly disposed disposed byDhaka City Corporation (DCC).

3. EnviOutcomes – BDT 50, 000 was awarded to a group ofstudents based on their proposed project and creativepotential to carry out their own designedenvironmental project.

Project Trash Patrol’ involves the setting up of trash-cans allover Dhaka City and their maintenance from time to time.

Components:-setting up of trash-cans in all major streets of the capital city(Dhaka)- Initiate an awareness campaign on anti-littering, amongstpedestrians and the general public.

Design of the trashcans:

- Fixability – Each trashcan will be fixed to its position (viapole and chain) to prevent theft.-Durability – Trashcans will be made up of durable materialsuch as steel- Convenience of Operation – Trashcans are designed in a wayto make it easier for DCC employees to empty them on aregular basis.

South Asian Youth Camp

SAYCAW SAYCAW

SAYCAW stands for South Asian Youth on Climate change,Agriculture & Water. SAYCAW is governed by the countryfocal points of South Asian Countries

SAYCAW Objective:

- To mobilize opinion of youth group and concernedstakeholders towards influencing the states undertakingproper initiatives for rights of smallholder producers in SouthAsia.

SAYCAW Themes:

- Agriculture- Climate Change- Water Resources

Target Participants:

- Youth between the ages of 21 and 35 from the South Asia(Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan & SriLanka)

NEO is Bangladesh’s first Olympiad on earth sciences to creategreater enthusiasm and interest for current globalenvironmental issues among high school students.

NEO Objectives:

Earth Champion Project (ECP)

Earth Champions program (ECP) is the signature youthenvironmental leadership program of BYEI.

ECP, in fact, awarded with the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund(AEIF) grant from the U.S Department of State.

Outcomes:- prepare next-gen environmental leaders at school level- build environmental clubs at private/public schools- enhance environmental awareness among young-gen

Benefits of Fellows:- each fellow will receive full scholarship to complete ECP- receive financial support to implement own projects-financial support for environmental clubs

ECP Components:Learning and Training- Training methods: lectures, small group exercises- Knowledge sessions: debates, case studies etc.

Collaborative Projects- field trips to places of environmental importance
