• INFINITIVE = A verb that ends in –ar, –er, or –ir in Spanish or that has a to before it in English.– esquiar = to ski– leer = to read– escribir = to write

• The infinitive verbs have TWO parts in Spanish: – STEM = the meaning of the verb– ENDING = –ar, –er, or –ir

• A mi también– When you agree positively with the likes of

another person.―Me gusta ir a la escuela. ¿Y a ti?―Me gusta también.

• A mi tampoco– When you agree negatively with the dislikes of

another person.―No me gusta nadar. ¿Y a ti?―No me gusta tampoco.

o―A mi tampoco.

• In English we say not to make a sentence negative.– I do not like to dance.

• In Spanish we put no before the verb or verbal phrase.– No me gusta bailar.

Apuntes (22.10.13) Negatives

• If you really don’t like something say nada after the me gusta phrase for emphasis. – No me gusta nada bailar.


• If you really don’t like two things say no before the me gusta and ni before each thing. – No me gusta ni bailar ni cantar.– No me gusta nada ni bailar ni cantar.


• To answer a question negatively you need so say no twice.—¿Te gusta bailar?—No, no me gusta bailar.


This answers the questions negatively.

This makes the sentence negative: not in English.
