INTRODUCTION

This report will reflect the experiences faced during

the workshop facilitation and also the outcome

achieved after each session.

AQEP sponsored the tour. The team consisted of

the Director Primary Education, Mr Takali, and Matai Tagicaki. The tour began on

the 30th of September and the Itinerary was as follows:

1. Nausori Airport to Labasa Airport – 30/9/15

2. Labasa Airport to Northpole Hotel

3. Hotel to Labasa Education office – Session 1 with Macuata Head

teachers, 30/9/15.

4. 2nd Session – Taveuni, 1/10/15

5. 3rd Session – Savusavu, 2/10/15

6. 4th Session – Labasa, Bua Teachers, 2/10/15

7. Labasa to Nausori airport, 3/10/15.

Explain ICT in Education

Define M Learning

Understand the changes introduced by digital Learning

Identify effective teaching methods Using Digital learning devices.

Combine Aptus and M learning devices to create a dynamic learning

environment

Develop an appreciation for digital devices as effective learning tools.

CONTENT

UBSLATE Tablet Specification – I highlighted the basic specification of the

tablet for user knowledge.

The use of UBSLATE Tablet for Educational Purposes – The Tablet android is

an interactive/interface electronic device.

Defining ICT in Education - universal access to education, equity in education, the

delivery of quality learning and teaching, teachers’ professional development and more

efficient education management, governance and administration.

What is M learning? - Mobile devices are not just telephones but also include

laptops, tablets, iPads, iPods and any electronic device that has the capability of

interface and interactive software

• What is the APTUS mobile learning digital device - Aptus is a learning mobile device designed to create classrooms without walls; have educational information that is up to date available anywhere around the world creating an equitable environment for education.

METHODOLOGY

There were three centers arranged for the workshops; Labasa Education

Office, Savusavu Education Office and Bucalevu College on Taveuni.

The Macuata and Bua Head Teachers attended the Labasa center on

Wednesday and Friday. The Taveuni schools attended the Bucalevu College

Center and Savusavu and Natewa Bay schools attended the Savusavu

Center workshops.

The workshop was divided into four stages; Powerpoint Presentation and

Tablet Familiarisation, use of the APTUS device (participation), Conclusion

and Q & A time.

OUTCOMES

Tablets were Distributed to

recipients

Teachers are familiar with

the proper use and safe

keep of the device.

Appreciation of the capacity

and capabilities of the learning digital device.

Awareness and use of the APTUS device as a complimentary tool for the

Tablet as teaching and learning tools.

Distribution of content material to teachers for future references and

school PD program.

Increase popularity and demand for the tablet and APTUS devices for rural

and remote schools, because of the opportunities they offer.

Hands on approach increased confidence in using the digital devices.

Training produced a motivated, embracing and confident group of

educators.

RECOMMENDATION

Each session to be increased to a whole day instead of just three hours.

Follow up to visit each schools instead of clusters.

The purchase of APTUS devices to compliment the UBSLATE Tablets.

An Education Officer for each district to be trained for further consultation

and upgrade.
